1885 The Venue - Halifax

We held our wedding at The 1885 on the August bank holiday and WOW what a perfect day it was. From our initial discussion through to the day after our wedding both Victoria & Matthew were absolutely fantastic. They genuinely care for their customers and wanted our day to be as amazing as we did. They were attentive throughout and nothing was too much to ask, they made us feel comfortable and confident in the run up to our day and it was all completely stress free. The staff were brilliant during our day and the food stole the show - our guests said it was like eating in a fine dining restaurant! We can't thank Matthew, Victoria and the team enough for making our day as special as we wanted and for going above and beyond.

Our large group celebrated an anniversary in the 1885 restaurant last Saturday, and we couldn't have been more pleased. Victoria's exceptional pre-event organization ensured a flawless experience. The beautifully arranged room, prompt service, and delicious food all contributed to a wonderful afternoon. The staff's warm welcome, helpfulness, and attentiveness truly impressed us. Highly recommended – we'll be back!

I recently stayed overnight as I was working in the area. The room was well equipped and a good size. The bed was very comfortable and the scent of the bedding was really nice. The restaurant service & food was also really good. I have stayed in many hotels for work over the years this one is definitely one of my favourites.

Can’t even express just how disappointed I’ve been by the shockingly rude service received earlier today at The 1885. We were dining at teatime as a party of two families with kids. We all live locally and are regular customers…. Our friends’ 3 year old started to become distressed for a few minutes at one stage (as young children do). At this point, one of the owners then came over to us and said "Look guys, I know you're trying but everyone has walked out of this pub because of the noise, so you need to go outside till she calms down”. This is clearly extremely rude and offensive, especially for a supposedly family friendly establishment. Unfortunately you’ve completely lost the custom of two local families now.

great rooms and food. also the staff were very friendly and when our taxi didn't turn up to go to Halifax they sorted it out straight away

I have consistently found great food, and great service here.. but there is a clear "set" that 1885 wishes to appeal to. It's not ideal for kids and families. Possibly depending on the time of day and whether they have residents upstairs. On my last visit I was asked politely by the owner not to return because my toddlers disturbed the residents upstairs (we came for dinner between 5-7pm). My kids were excited/activated and they are both young/high pitched but they weren't unreasonable, in my opinion.

It's a gorgeous venue, and I can't rate the servers highly enough, I have always been treated kindly and attentively, but I won't be rushing back, I wouldn't feel welcome.

Went last night to a 30th party food was lovely and plenty of it ,drinks price was reasonable. Would definitely call in again.

Had a wonderful 2 nights here with the family. Rooms were very good and the breakfasts delicious, especially the sausages.
