I can’t comment on the rooms as we stayed locally at Sawcliffe Manor who recommended we make a dinner reservation. We didn’t know what to expect but were extremely happy with what we received.

We decided to eat from the A la carte but chose to share 5 starters a side and some bread. We were glad we did as we got to sample more of the menu. We enjoyed every dish. Whoever had the genius idea to serve the chicken liver parfait with brown sauce

So found by accident when looking online for somewhere local for a light lunch, upon looking found they have rooms and a decent menu for restaurant so changed plans booked a room and had an evening meal with them. Briefly checked reviews then booked. After booking looked further down the reviews which led to a small concern but this was unfounded. The service was great, the food well presented and cooked to perfection. I had a fillet steak perfectly cooked, wife had the sea bream. As we had booked a stay we also had breakfast the following morning. They have a continental breakfast as standard and you can upgrade to an additional cooked breakfast which is well cooked and extremely tasty. Id say the best cooked english breakfast I've had. as said we booked a nights stay. We booked the larger room which was a good size the room was very clean and tidy as was the bathroom. facilities in the room were fine with complimentary teas and coffee. The service all round was good. All staff took their time to speak to guests and explain all relevant things for rooms and food. The restaurant was packed full on our Thursday visit yet still the service was quick and as I would expect. I would recommend this place to anyone who needs a place local to stay or indeed for a good meal out. The owner has also set about to explain how he came to be in the trade, facts about the venue and what their ethos is about with the sourcing and use of the foods they serve which was both interesting to read and admire

Lovely place, great food, great service, spoiled horribly by the obnoxious yobs on the table behind us. Management says they like to have it as an all inclusive environment. Not wishing to entertain establishing any standards or code for those that enter. They did end up kicking them out but not only after I had had enough of their verbal attacks and took matters into my own hands which shamefully, I wished I hadn't had to do.

We regularly visit the Hope and Anchor and booked recently ... even after seeing some of the latest reviews. Whether it is because we are known, or most probably our two Giant Schnauzers are better known, we had a great visit.||I understand that service can be a personal thing and not to everyone's liking. But if you want a quick meal with previously prepared food, then maybe a different type of pub would be better! We took around 90 minutes to enjoy two freshly prepared courses. Something we wanted was not available, we chose something else, but if they stocked everything all of the time, the wastage would be huge and the price would go up even more.||We paid over £100 for our two courses and drinks, with the dogs enjoying two portions of gourmet sausages at the same time. I know there is a populous that doesn't approve of dogs in pubs, but, they also have a restaurant serving the same menu which is dog free. Well behaved dogs (in the main) are not issues and can add to a great meal. A little more reference to canine acceptance, on their website might be educational? The staff are also happy to accommodate doggy requirements and water is available just inside the door in bowls.||I think every establishment can have good and potentially bad days. On this occasion (as with most of them) everything was smooth and on time. I find the staff extremely approachable and also accommodating, So don't leave the pub with a bad taste and then leave a bad review, I find a sensible chat and the ability to let them sort it out (in whatever way) actually improves relationships, and repeat visitors.||Their awards speak for themselves... keep up the good work guys

First of all, I just want it to be noted that I hardly ever leave reviews! Simply because I forget or don’t have the time, but after our visit today (first time) I couldn’t not leave one!

My partner ordered fish and chips off the set lunch menu (great value for money by the way) and he said it was the best fish and chips he’s ever had. Lovely fresh fish, ‘proper’ chips, mushy peas and tartar sauce.

I ordered the surf and turf and unfortunately there was something not quite to my liking (I won’t say what it was because I wouldn’t want others intentionally taking advantage hoping for the same outcome) and the lovely lady who was serving us understood and kindly replaced my meal, not only that they didn’t charge me for the meal, even after being replaced!

I was quite taken back by this lovely gesture! The waitress who was serving us said they appreciate our custom and want things to be right for everyone. Most other places would have said sorry and replaced the meal, or even part of the meal, but this place went above and beyond to rectify something that in the grand scheme of things was a minor issue.

Thank you very much. We will definitely visit again, not only for the service but for the quality of the food.

I’m sorry I didn’t catch the name of the waitress, she was a Bulgarian lady, thank you again!

Went here for lunch. I like the look of the pub which has a lot more character than the usual gastro pubs. However the food was a bit disappointing. Starters were OK. Wood pigeon was very good but mussels tasted fatty.
At over £60 for lobster and steak I was expecting a lot more lobster - it was a very small portion. The fillet steak was excellent though. My wife’s chicken was done on the jospar but was just too smoky for her - I tried some and it was too smoky for me as well.
For these prices I was expecting better.
Big thanks to the lady who served us though - the service was first class.

Spoiled by inconsiderate people on the next table. Popped in for lunch having not been in years and thought I'd give it a go to see if I agree with the positive or negative reviews. Well, I'll add my thoughts.
Service was good, food was OK but very overpriced for bar food. £52 for two drinks two meals and a side is a lot of money. However our visit was ruined by the people on the table next to us who thought it was OK to FaceTime someone for over 10 minutes on pretty much full volume. After a few mucky looks by me and some scowls, my mife politely asked the woman if she'd mind turning her phone down, well she must've minded because a button press and moving the phone 6 inches surprisingly did nothing to lessen the annoyance. I can't believe how rude and inconsiderate some people can be.
It really did spoil our visit.
Anyway, the food still comes on daft narrow bits of wood, so it looks like you're a messy eater when in fact all you're trying to do is sprinkle salt on your chips that are sat in a steel jug atop a four inch wide piece of wood! Also I felt like I was sat in a science lab as I was surrounded by some pretty gross looking things in pickle jars. I have absolutely no idea who thought that this was a good look.
Anyway, it was pleasant enough but I certainly won't be rushing back, mainly due to the clientele and average bar food that thinks it's worth a premium.
Sorry. 3*

Visited with friends on 18.8.24.
Service was excellent.
Room was great.

Menu.choice for vegetarians wasnt great.

I had the Burrata salad to start. It was strange and texture of the burrata wasnt the best.
My veggie burger was ok...

Woukd have loved dessert but both sticky toffee pudding and crumble only came with cream...no custard.
We did ask if we could have custard but was told No.

The chicken pate ordered by 2 of the party was very runny.
When the lady who ordered the crumble poured her cream on, it ran over the side of the dish as the dish wasnt very deep....

Go up
