This “function” was a staff Christmas party. ||As I wasn’t the organiser I won’t comment on the fact that the location advertised the Christmas event with music including DJ etc and then later withdrew that offer due to lack of numbers etc. but the meal……oh my goodness, how embarrassing. The starter and the dessert were okayish, I mean we all know you often get ripped off on starters and desserts right, they are rarely worth the £6 ish you spend on them, but the main course has to be right. The meal cost £32.50 (advertised with a DJ etc which never happened), the main course options were beef, turkey, nut roast, sea bass etc….the vegetables, 3 sprouts, half a carrot, 1 tiny parsnip (little finger size) 3 roast potatoes (not crispy), and gravy….the plate was pretty much empty…was a joke! What I find hard to understand is the fact that the head chef I assume approved these plates to be sent out!! Should be ashamed. Assuming around £7 for starter and again for dessert this leaves £18.50 for this main course….absolute joke!! We were all waiting for bowls of veg to arrive as the plates were empty!! No wonder the place was empty and the DJ was stood down. The staff on the night were nice enough and worked hard, but the head chef, not acceptable….

An absolutely lovely place to stay. Lovely views, lovely bath. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The only flaw was unfortunately on our first morning we ordered the cooked breakfast and the sasauges weren't at all cooked. Asked the waitresses to return them to the kitchen and cook them properly, they were returned to us barely cooked again!! Second morning (today) we both had the salmon and scrambled egg, which was delicious.

The hotel is set in grounds that have been adequately described in other reviews, the interior is rather impersonal and a bit run down but everything was clean and the staff were all friendly and helpful. But a particular mention must be given to the lady running the bar on the evening we were there who was an absolute delight and worked hard selling the hotel amenities . We did not dine but noted that the dining room was empty |We decided to have breakfast and that, I’m afraid,is where things went wrong. The menu offered “Grilled kippers with poached eggs “ This turned out to be a single boil in the bag kipper fillet with two fairly solid poached eggs, not unpalatable but not what I expected. However my major beef was the behaviour of other guests with dogs .I don’t know what kind of pleb feels they can take dogs into a restaurant, or what misguided management allows them to do it but here we had the perfect confluence of three yappy mutts and their ineffectual owners entertaining the assembled eaters with a cacophony of barking interspersed with hopeless mewls of “stop it “ and “Quiet “ which were happily ignored.|It’s a shame that an adequate stay should be spoiled by behaviour that , if it had been children, would not have been tolerated

Stayed for a wedding. The hotel is self is lovely, a bit dated but clean and comfortable. The evening food we were served at the wedding was quite shocking. A "chef" (according to his tshirt) used 4 bottles of lighter fluid to get the bbq going when it was clearly already well lit. The burgers tasted of lighter fluid and were raw in the middle.

We stayed at the lord haldon court from a monday to thursday !
We chose this hotel as it is approx 25 minutes from 5 different seaside resorts in devon!
The hotel is tucked away down very narrow single track lanes so be prepared to do a fair bit of backing up when out and about!
The carpark is spacious and there is an electric double socket available for e car charging!
The gardens and views are stunning!
The hotel is mostly staffed by very helpful/pleasant ladies!
The room we had was very nice ,bright room and a very modern bathroom /shower room!
No bath!
We had no problems sleeping and were supplied with softer pillows on asking!
The room service was very good!!
We were on the top floor(3rd) as asked for ,the stairs were a good workout as no lifts in this establishment!
Ensure you get a ground floor room if you cannot deal with steep stairs!
We opted for bed and breakfast only but the resteraunt was open to public as well so no need to book!
Like a lot of hotels we stay in this hotel is understaffed and that really showed on our second morning when we were told there was no hot breakfast due to the chef being ill
It wasnt a real problem as there was an ok choice of continental breakfast!
The full english when it was available was very well cooked and quite yummy!
The quaint bar is well stocked ,a tad expensive and the waiting at the bar for a bar person was at times excessive!
A few people that wanted an afterdinner drink were a bit miffed on finding the bar closed at 9.15 due to no barstaff !
There are a few board games available in the bar lounge but no other entertainments.
We would certainly return to the lord haldonj court and would have given all five stars if the advertised breakfast and more efficient bar staff were available!

Exceptional hotel. With outstanding service set in stunning countryside close to the city of Exeter and easy access to Dartmoor. The team here and management make you feel valued as a guest and go above and beyond to make your stay one to remember for the right reasons.

I stayed for 3 nights, and stay in many hotels for work. However this hotel really disappointed me. The location is stunning and the hotel has a charm about it, however being an old building i constantly heard door banging throughout the night up to 11pm all 3 nights, It's like every door shudders throughout the hotel and through the walls. The walls have no sound proofing, and heard everything the couple were saying in the room next to me, even with the tv on. The staff were very friendly. There is no where else to eat, as tge hotel is very remote. This was okay as the food was good and a reasonable price.
Like I say it's just a shame I couldn't sleep, due to noises and hearing people all the time.... and the doors! Bang bang bang .... room 10

My wife, mother-in-law and I stayed for one night, in order to attend a family wedding. My mother-in-law is elderly. The non-existance of disabled access resulted in her being carried upstairs on a chair! I will be investigating further, with regard to disability access legislation.
Facilities for the outdoor wedding were very good and well organised. However, the food for the wedding meal was adequate, but no more. For example, the cream on the dessert was semi-solid having evidently been just taken out of a freezer.
Breakfast was reasonable, but let down by being served on cold plates, which, of course, resulted in the food going cold that bit quicker.
Our rooms were very reasonable, but let down by peeling wallpaper.
Most of the staff were polite and helpful. However, the manager was discourteous to family members, when we were trying to navigate mother-in-law through the darkened passageways; putting the lights on was evidently too much trouble for him.
