Our first time at Millslade Country House hotel and wow what a delightful 4 night stay! We can honestly say it was the best experience we have ever encountered, so much so we really didn't want to leave.
Anna and Simon's hospitality is second to none, instantly making you feel at home, super friendly and welcoming. The hotel is gorgeous and spacious, the bedroom and huge bathroom with both bath and shower kitted out beautifully and so cosy.
The food both for breakfasts and dinner absolutely delicious, Simon is a fantastic cook and his bubble and squeak served at breakfast is epic! We ate dinner here on the first night, seared tuna for starters followed by homemade fish pie and fresh vegetables. Finishing the evening with a glass of wine in front of the log burner in the cosy communal lounge.
To top it all Brendon village is set in a stunning location in a deep wooded valley with the River Lyn meandering past the hotel through the village. There are two pubs in the village, we visited both for dinner, typical pub grub but very nice. Once you are parked up at Millslade you really don't need to use the car, there are an abundance of walks from the doorstep. We did the Watersmeet walk along the river with a welcomed cuppa at the cafe and a walk on the moor to Malmsmead, so much to discover.
We've booked twice for next year, can't wait to go back absolutely love it!

I first stayed here with my parents when i was a young teenager and i remember fishing in the creek, as us Aussies call it.
My next visit was when i was 22/24 ish and we used the digs as a base for a few days, as we visited England from Australia. It was still such a beautiful part of my youth. And i also remembered reading Lorna Doone. A fascinating look at days gone bye etc etc....
Then would you believe skip forward another 40 odd years and the attraction is still there. The locals are so cool, friendly and chatty. The pub was just what a local should be, laughter, chit chat and sill stories re the Doone family.
But here we are again. Im nearly eighty and Brendon, the hills and countryside, local villages and the locals are playing havoc with the desire to bring my lover with me. To be sure she won't want to leave.

I discovered Millslade purely by chance on a visit to the area earlier this year when researching family connections with a nearby farm, and returned again with my wife just last week. Millslade Country House B&B is a real gem, set in an idyllic location, superb comfortable accommodation, friendly and knowledgeable hosts, excellent food ... without exception, Millslade has been my best ever experience of hospitality and seriously doubt that it will ever be bettered.

We stayed with the family for two nights in early August. We've been to numerous B&Bs all over Britain and can confidently say that this is among the nicest and most comfortable ones we have ever stayed at. It is also one of the very few places welcoming children, let alone offering family rooms, in the area.

The quiet and relaxing B&B is run by the lovely and super friendly couple Anna and Simon. Every corner of the house shows how much work they put into it. The house was fully refurbished a few years ago and the spacious room that we had was immaculous, super clean, and like new - as was the common areas, such as the breakfast and living rooms.

For breakfast, one can choose from a nice range of options freshly prepared by Simon as ordered and they also offered home-made sour dough bread, honey from their own bees, as well as plum jam made using plums coming from their garden. Also the eggs came from their own ducks roaming the grounds. As we always went straight for breakfast, we didn't make use of the small bottle of fresh milk left by the milk fairy in front of the room in the morning. Hopefully next time!

The B&B is a bit remote but still well located for numerous activities in the area. Most importantly, of course, hikes and walks in the surrounding hills and the breathtaking cost.

Anna and Simon were also so kind to let us charge our EV - and rumors have it that there might soon be a wallbox offering faster charging. 😉

All in all a strong recommendation and insider tip!

Situated in a quiet and beautiful corner of Exmoor. Millslade Country House lies right next to a river with forests, hills and incredible scenery surrounding it. The accommodation is very tastefully decorated, en suite bathrooms with excellent showers. The bedrooms have wonderful views and the beds are incredibly comfortable! Anna and Simon are fantastic hosts and they provide a five star service and delicious breakfast including freshly made bread. No need for hotels this is the nicest place I have ever had the pleasure to have stayed in!

I'd rate Millslade 10 stars if I could! This is the BEST BnB we've stayed in, ever. Immediately upon arrival, we felt right at home. A lovely tea service was prepared when we checked in. The house is stunningly clean and the rooms are well appointed + spotless. The beds are comfortable and the breakfast is prefect. It's the best nights sleep I've had this trip. So convenient for walking (so much to choose from). I'm in love with this valley 😍 and we will definitely be back! Anna and Simon are magic!
.... oh, they also have small wash towels and a shower with a door. You have no idea how happy that made me!
