Lovely visit here. Excellent staff. Very comfortable bed. Amazing value for use of spa and a delicious breakfast. Feature room wasn't much more and was excellent. We said it's one of the best full English breakfasts we've had. |We enjoyed sitting in the outdoor hot tub looking at the view with some snow still on the golf course. |Sauna could have been warmer but that was the only blip. Hopefully it'll be sorted by the time we return?

Spent two nights at the hotel with my husband for a quiet get away before we return to work. The staff are lovely and really friendly. Our evening meals which we had in the bar were really nice and well presented.|We were disappointed that the use of the spa was no longer included in the price and that there is no longer a swimming pool. We probably wouldn't use the spa again. As others have said the rooms and window frames could do with some tlc. Nothing unpleasant but we would go elsewhere next time

From the moment we arrived, we were met with a lack of hospitality. Instead of a warm welcome, a staff member abruptly shouted, "Do you have a booking?" before we had even fully stepped inside. There was no greeting, no smile—just an impersonal and dismissive tone.
Two receptionists remained seated, while what appeared to be the duty manager stood over them, taking control of the interaction. After confirming our booking and providing our names, we were handed two locker tokens and told simply to "follow the path around." No further instructions were given.
As we proceeded, the duty manager followed behind us but then stopped to speak with someone else. With no clear guidance, we assumed we needed to continue along the visible path to the changing rooms.
Upon entering the changing rooms, we immediately noticed the absence of the towels, slippers, and dressing gowns that had been advertised as part of the package. We looked around, assuming they might be laid out on the side or placed inside the lockers.
During this time, the duty manager and another staff member entered to ask two other guests if they were ready for their treatments. When I politely inquired about the missing items, I was met with an unnecessarily rude response:
"They are on the side in reception waiting for you! I told you to walk around to the side, but you didn’t!"
Rather than offering any assistance or bringing the items to us, the duty manager simply stood with her arms crossed, making no effort to rectify the situation. Instead, she instructed me to walk back to reception myself, calling out, "You’d better tell him as well to get his!"
Upon returning to reception, I found no staff present, so I had to retrieve the items myself before going back to the changing rooms. The duty manager, still in the area, made no attempt to offer further guidance, leaving us entirely uncertain about what to do next.
Once changed, we made our way to the spa area, which was disappointingly cold. The floors were soaking wet, all the cushions on the loungers were damp, and used cups were scattered everywhere.
Both indoor hot tubs were fully occupied, as was the sauna, so we decided to use the outdoor hot tub. After 30 minutes, we returned inside, hoping to use the sauna. While it was now available, the water bucket was empty, and the sauna itself was barely warm.
Wanting to hydrate, we looked for water, only to find the jugs empty. When we went back to reception to find a drink, the area was once again deserted. Left with no other option, we used some of this water in the sauna ourselves to create steam and generate warmth.
Despite the spa area becoming quieter, it remained untidy—cups, used towels, and wet floors were left unattended, and there was no visible effort to clean or maintain the space. The indoor hot tubs appeared unclean and lukewarm, so we opted to return outside for the last 30 minutes of our session.
With just 10 minutes left, the duty manager came outside—not to check on us or offer assistance, but to test the pH levels of the water while we were still in the hot tub. This felt both intrusive and unprofessional.
When it was time to leave, we figured out ourselves where to place our used towels and robes—unlike the male changing rooms, where many items had been left scattered about.
As we exited, there was no acknowledgment from staff—no farewell, no inquiry about our experience, not even a simple "goodbye." Instead, the only comment we heard was from the duty manager, who loudly announced, "Thank goodness we can change that music—get it off!"
We did email the manager, notifying them of our experience but did not recieve any reply!

Excellent service. Lovely stay. Enjoyed our food especially the breakfast.
No pool now and sauna wasn't that hot but enjoyed the outdoor hot tub. Used the gym. Bargain amount for breakfast and a lovely room plus use of gym and spa. Worth an extra tenner for feature room.
Yes it's an old building that needs tlc but it's full of character. And in beautiful surroundings.

It was wonderful getting away from crowded city life's usual hustle and bustle. The welcoming sight of horses grazing across the road, farm buildings from the Middle Ages, and a stable brought forth the welcoming farm-home atmosphere. I loved the quiet, the people minding their own business, and the staff recognizing each individual visitor for who they are—cherished guests!I will surely visit again.

Home from a lovely overnight spa break. All the staff were wonderful and friendly. Lovely lunch on the terrace, afternoon in spa with gorgeous back massage and outdoor hot tub. Lovely evening meal. I am a foodie and am hard to please but our lunchtime wraps and evening meals were lovely. Breakfast was nice too.
If I am honest the hotel in parts is a little tiredand the outdoor terrace but the view is lovely. The bedrooms could do with an upgrade as very tired but our bedroom had a lovely view of the golf course and it was clean and comfy which is all you need really.
Would go back for a spa day for sure. Lovely stroll round the grounds this morning too.

Lovely hotel, freindly and helpful staff. Cleaners need to pay more attention as we found quite thick dust on top of mirrrors and picture frames. Breakfast wad good although the bacon was a bit too crispy for my taste.

Have been here a number of times, but I don't think will be coming again. Stayed in Room 16 above the stables..
The room was clean, granted. But very very worn out, curtains hanging off the rails, kettle, and iron broken.
Bathroom, where do I start, the toilet, it's position is not ideal for normal human anatomy ( check the photo ) trying to use it while leaning over is far from ideal, that's when you notice the loo roll is on the back of the door about 5 feet away, which induces an indignant waddle to grab a roll. The sign about how to use the bath plus was amusing considering it was wrong, the shower, went from cold to tepid, the temperature control handle is broken. Back to the loo, as for me that was the centre piece, it's not fastened down or has come loose I can only assume this is due to the weird angle or side saddle method of constant use..

The bed, comfy yes, clean yes, plenty of pillow yes.. on an angle yes ! I'm not a small guy so my body would normally need some persuading to roll, but this bed manages to overcome this and the result was a very disturbed nights sleep.

Have to say, that staff are amazing, nice, friendly helpful A1 in my book.

Will I come again, if I do, I will not accept a room in the stables.

Go up
