Recently stayed in single bedroom came home with bed bug bites 3 weeks later still getting rid of marks. Very disappointed as stayed before with no issues. Food fab in restaurant, staff are great too.

Well where to start! Sadly I didn't check the trip advisor reviews but went with the booking.com ones which said it was pleasant but sadly far from it! I knew as soon as I pulled up into the car park that it was not going to be good. Rubbish and junk all over the place. It is an Indian restaurant but you would not want to eat here as it's run down, dirty and not inviting at all. Our bedroom was dated, dirty, horrid carpets & furniture, cupboard was ok! The window didn't close well so very noisy being on a busy main road! I wouldn't even want to use the shower! Breakfast was non existent, some cereal, bread & jam but the area where it was was more like a staff area and not fit for public access. All together a very odd place indeed & whoever inspects it needs to go back and close it down!! 3 good things...1 the room was lovely and warm 2 the bed was comfy although I darnt look at the bedding! 3 the tv worked well. Worst £50 spent on accommodation ever in the UK.

|Where do I start?||Just about everything that could be wrong with a hotel is wrong with this place.||If you have any standards at all you will probably not enjoy this place.|The room I was in smelled like smoke. (they told me a guest had burnt some toast in the the toaster. hmmm....)|The only lighting was bright white flourescent lighting.|In the outer rooms (accessed from the outside) the heat doesn't work properly.|There is black mold around the bathroom window.|'Breakfast' consists of a plastic cereal container that is about 1/4 full of cereal in something that looks like a staff kitchen. (you will actually meet members of the staff here.)|||On the other hand there are a few positives.||The price is one of the lowest in the Cambridge area.|The guys at the desk (which is actually just a table at the back of the restaurant) will actually try to help if you have a problem. |The sheets seemed to be clean. |The attached restaurant is pretty good and not expensive. (Though you have to wonder what the kitchen looks like, given the quality of the accomodation.)||I would recommend this place only to someone on a very low budget and who has the ability to somehow ignore the various issues. ||You would generally be much better off in one of the popular chain hotels. Can't mention the names here, but you know which ones I'm referring to. ||I cannot understand why the owners don't do a full rennovation and fix the issues here. It could be a nice little guesthouse. Sadly it is not.

The bad:||||Pretty much everthing expressed by the other reviwers is true.||||The first room I was shown to seemed to have no heat. I asked about this, and In spite of promises to the contrary, the heat did not come on within about 30 minutes and I had to change rooms.||||-Most rooms have old-style flourescent lights. (White lighting that feels like an office ) This was one of the worst points in my view. Fortunately the room I was in also had a small bedside lamp that was proper yellow lighting.||||-The whole place has a very run down feeling. When I exited via the back door in daylight there was some rubbish strewn around that no one has picked up. I was going to get a photo of this but as it was freezing cold outside I didn't. (you can take my word for it though).||||The place is next to a busy road, so there is traffic starting early in he morning. This didn't actually bother me too much as I was facing the back.||||Supposedly there is breakfast included, but there is nothing here that you would call breakfast. The only thing I could see was a 1/8 full container of some old cereall all in a place that looks like some kind of staff kitchen at best.||||||The Good points:||||-The price (one of the lower priced places in the cambridge area).||||-Sheets and pillowcases seem clean, as far as I can tell.||||There is free parking.||||-The guys who run the place seem to take it in stride if you have a problem with something. They were apologetic for the issue about the cold room. ||||-There is a reasonably priced Indian restaurant on site, so if you are hungry, that could be a plus. mains are about £7.50).||||I would consider staying here only if I were on very tight budge and are tolerant of the defects mentioned by me and the other reviewers.|||| Frankly any of the other chain hotel found in a motorway service area [not allowed to mention the names here] is way better.||||If you decide to try this place, don't say you haven't been warned. ||||I wish the owners would read these reviews and try to make the needed improvements but I don't have a lot of hope that will happen. It's too bad really because it could be a nice little guest house if it had proper management and a bit of investment.

We arrived and were ushered in via a back door, through what I presume is a kitchen which was absolutely filthy. Taken upstairs, which had seemingly not been hoovered for months. Into the bedroom which, well, was awful. There were cigarette ends on the floor, stains on the bedding, the bathroom dirty, cup marks all over the bed side table. A kettle and a jar of sugar. No cups coffee etc. Stains all up the walls. We remained in the room for all of a minute before making the decision we would not be staying. We have been promised a refund from OYO, still to arrive. I would avoid this place at all costs, I wouldn’t let my dog stay there. Absolutely shocking. Yes it’s a 2.5 star, stayed in those previously and none have been as dirty as this place. .5 stars at best as there were beds in the room. Think horror film meets the fens and you’re half way there!

The best advice I can give is do not use this"Hotel". On arrival I was escorted through a filthy kitchen to a room at the back. No room keys were available. The room itself had a carpet that was filthy with what looked like dog hair, The bedding was stained and damp as were the curtains. Further checking of both bed and curtains revealed an infestation of bed bugs (I did take a video). The base of the beds were falling apart and the material was full of holes. The roof had damp patches on it and the skirting board showed signs of mould. The whole place is a health hazard and I can only assume that they bribed someone in order to get a 2 star rating whereas it deserves a minus rating. I stayed here for less than 15 minutes whilst I booked another hotel 8 miles away. I am now waiting to see if Hotels.com can get me a refund.

Staff are very nice, we knew we were staying at a poorly reviewed hotel but as all other hotels were so much more expensive we took the hit.

I'm glad we knew what we were getting ourselves into after reading the reviews otherwise I would have been extremely upset.

Positives: warm tap water, comfortable bed, there was a wardrobe, working TV, desk fan if it was too hot and smelt of amazing curry food, private en suite, potentially clean bedding but due to quality of the room I can't be 100%.

Negatives: no reception or receptionist so no formal checking in or checking out, bin still had previous guest's rubbish in it, one hand towel for two guests, kettle had ants in, no tea/coffee/mugs in the room, bedding bottom sheet had small rips, floor hadn't been cleaned as it was dusty and had talcum powder on it, the duvet inside the duvet cover was yellow and could have done with a good deep clean, toilet still had a sticker from b and q on it, shower was dirty with the door covered in scum and so was the sink, shower base front panel was missing, light switch missing a screw and moved, no soap for washing hands.

Continental Breakfast consists of a few boxes of general cereals and I believe toast but we didn't stay for breakfast. There was no official breakfast sitting area, it's more of a free for all as if you were staying at someone's house.

No reception to check in, we called prior to our check in as traffic had held up our journey. When we arrived we had the to call the hotel number as we couldn't figure out the entrance. FYI the entrance is at the back and the door leads straight into the kitchen/breakfast area.

It's good for a night if you have no where else to go, I would have paid £20 at a push. We joked about the potential of picking up bed bugs and moved from the bedroom to the ensuite shuffling on a towel as everytime we walked we had bits sticking to our feet.

It wasn't worth the money, but the bed was EXTREMELY comfortable.

It's an informal place to stay and if I was by myself I wouldn't have walked in as I would have felt unsafe. There is a sense of safety behind check in procedures and basic hygiene, without this I felt uneasy.

A hostel would probably have had a higher level of hygiene and checking in/out process.

The Slap-up B&B is attached to the very inviting looking Taste of Goa restaurant, along the EEy to Cambridge road, about 5 miles from the M11 junction and literally a short distance from Ely city centre...||||Clean & comfortable rooms with ensuite shower in a quiet location. The proprietor must have a wicked sense of humour though as the breakfast part was DIY cereal, toast & jam with tea or coffee - not a hash brown, fried egg or rasher of bacon in sight!||||Still, he didn't mind us staying up until 3.30am drinking, and we didn't need to leave the rooms until midday, although by 9.30am we had to scarper to search for a Shell garage bakery or McDonalds. Luckily it was Shell 🌞
