Beautiful old fashioned and characterful pub. Just the way pubs should be! One of the best - if not the best - in Durham. Great selection of cask ales and open fires. Does it get any better?

A great stay over in the family room. Very quiet surroundings, comfy beds and black out blinds made for a brilliant night's sleep. The room had everything we needed and had a view of the cathedral. It was a short walk to the cathedral and plenty of restaurants.

Lovely old Inn. Very friendly staff and good selection of gin and ales. Beautiful room. Spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. Everything you could need. 10 minute walk into town with lots to do and see. We will definitely return next year.

A quirky little pub that oozes character and is very cosy.

Been to this pub twice on my trip to Durham, the first time being with a guided pub crawl which made me want to come back.

This pub is a Victorian Gin palace which is divided into two snugs. There are two coal fireplaces which belt out heat into the relevantly small rooms, making it very toasty and cosy. A very good selection of beer and the history and character dripping off the walls really makes it a special place for s pint.

Accepts both cash and card, don't belive that they do food however they have rooms there which I imagine are in line with the pubs amazing historic decor.

Well worth popping in just for the experience, the reasonable price and good beer just make it all better.

The rooms were bright and I slept really well because the bed was amazing, the pillows were abundant and pumphy. No having to ask for extra pillows! The pub was fabulous, decor hadn't been touched maybe since the 1940s and a real coal fire in both rooms. It was a proper old fashioned boozer with fantastic bar staff with twinkly eyes. Well located for town, cheese toasties sold behind the bar, actual PG tips in the rooms, none of this Twinings or Lipton. Also there were 2 types of wine, red or white, and the measure was 'a glass', no messing around with measures or a wine list. Highly recommended for a grass roots experience, if you dont enjoy this you're probably dead inside.

Lovely old traditional inn. We stayed 5 nights in a twin room and it was very comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It was a real bonus to have parking available.|Location is excellent - a 10 min walk away from the Cathedral, Castle and city centre.

The Victoria is an absolute gem ! Not just for its stunning, virtually untouched interior, but for the welcome and the friendliness we experienced when we visited . A particular thank you to Libby who was so kind and helpful and who made us feel like we were β€˜regulars’ . My family and I were just visiting Durham for the weekend, but are already planning to return !
