This is a restaurant already held in high regard and I was very much looking forward to coming. I was not disappointed.

The food, service and venue exceeded expectations.

Situated in the pleasant town of Oakham there is plenty of parking nearby.

We went for lunch and had their set menu two courses which was very much worth the cost.

Started with potted belly prok with crackling after the bread with marmite butter - the latter was exceptionally good.

Superb start and the main was even better
...
Lamb with a rich gravy, bedded on ratatouille, with a potato gratin. The gratin was simply out of the this world. Infused with rosemary very richly.

I had a zero beer which wad on tap.

There were some excellent wine options also.

This is a restaurant that is recognised with a bib gourmand I believe from Michelin which is highly deserved.

I would highly recommend this very pleasant restaurant with superb food.

Phenomenal food from a cosy, home away from home. As soon as you walk in you are greeted with total friendliness and the dreamiest smells. It’s rare to go for dinner and have the perfect pacing between each course but Hitchins have it mastered! The value for money is mind blowing and the menu is something you won’t know what to do with! GO HERE!!!

Extremely disappointing evening. Lovely venue and attentive service, but the food was mediocre at best. Pork chops full of fat & gristle so barely a mouthful of actual meat. Restaurant explained "chef buys them like that as the fat adds flavour".

Bream was OK, very salty so not the best. Chicken was good, as was the duck.

Vegetables & roast potato undercooked inside and burnt on the outside. Aesthetically bland. Restaurant explained that this was because the "chef used a honey glaze"...didn't taste of honey, just burnt.

We were so embarrassed to have invited our guests there for dinner. We left immediately after the mains, paid the bill and got pudding back at home. The whole evening was embarrassing. The Restaurant deducted £25 for one of the pork chops which was appreciated.

Our expectations were high having read other reviews...perhaps we just picked a bad night?

Our first visit. Excellent. My wife and I had completely different dishes. We are picky customers it has to be said :). But gave it five stars on all fronts. A rarity for us 👍

We really enjoyed our visit for my husband's birthday. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was great. The food was so good we had 3 courses! We loved the black pudding scotch egg and the duck parfait; my husband had the grouse which he said was perfect, and I felt the same about my breast of chicken with girolles. The pudding platter was superb and we'll remember that for a long time to come. We loved our wine choices too - Nyetimber English sparkling wine, viognier and Australian pinot noir. All in all, a fantastic visit and excellent value for money.

One of the best restaurants in Leicestershire!

We reserved a table 6 weeks in advanced and we weren’t disappointed. Every dish we had was impressive in its own right. Our favourites were the soufflé, the fish and bread and butter pudding

The service was excellent and they were able to cater to all dietary needs including the removal of alcohol from sauces.
