Bertie's of Otterburn - Newcastle upon Tyne

Bertie's in Otterburn is certainly not luxury accommodation as advertised! It is living off William de Percy pub opposite which holds weddings and Bertie's provides extra accommodation. We stayed in the Potting Shed which was situated in a back yard behind a row off terraces, Bertie's being one of them. At £250 for B&B we did not expect to have no complementary water or biscuits, no hairdryer, pipes that gurgled all night and kept us awake and a room that had not been well cleaned ( big clumps of blond hair brushed behind the couch). And for that price no breakfast on offer! The other guests (who were at the wedding) had breakfast in the pub. The cleaner had to go to the pub to bring us a plated cooked breakfast. No questions asked about what we would like. The small breakfast room was not very clean with crumbs on the tables obviously from the previous morning and all the tables were chipped making them look even more unsavoury. I have written a complaint to the organisation but they are not polite or professional enough to even acknowledge its receipt. Too disgusted to take photos!

We arrived and all rooms were open so no need for codes, the room itself was aesthetically pleasind but that's where it stopped, the bathroom was dirty along with the stairs leading to the rooms. This is supposed to be the perfect wedding stay... If your going to a wedding which we were there is nowhere to hang your clothes or sit to put makeup on, there were 2 coat hangers with nowhere to hang them. My husband went to the breakfast area to get a chair.|This is classed as luxury boutique... At £200 a night... There is better value in the village.|Breakfast you are told is between 8:30 - 9:30, you can have it earlier but not later.... NO you can't have it earlier the chef doesn't arrive till 8:30 to heat up pre cooked food that you wouldn't give to your dog, the second day i thought I would play it safe with poached eggs, came it looked nice and fresh until I cut into it to find a long dark hair which was disgusting.|On my haste to leave this place I left some body lotion so I called 9 times and sent emails with NO response... Overall I would never go back.

Overall we had a great stay. We had booked the prickly pear but were offered the W room at no additional cost. The room was very nice and bed really comfy. Ideal for a couple.

We stayed for a friends wedding. There were 5 couples.
Initially I thought the groom had booked us rooms in the area, but I later found out, this was part of the wedding package. If I knew this, I would have politely declined and found my own accommodation.
The reason for this, as I have found out in the past, is when you take a room as part of a wedding package, they are significantly more expensive than what is in the area and the service isn’t the best.
Unfortunately for our stay, we didn’t have hot water, which seemed to run out once one person took a shower. The owners denied this had happened, yet there was a plumber in fixing the boiler when we arrived. They said the issue was fixed, however it wasn’t.
After reaching out to complain, I was dismissed, with the owners in denial.
If you are offered these rooms as part of a wedding you are attending, politely decline and look for your own accommodation in the area if possible, which will save you a lot of money and receive better service.
On a side note, the people who were working there serving breakfast were great

Never been treated as badly as this I arrived to find my room prickly pear was not ready tried con tacting the owners left emails and voicemails but got no response looked around and found one room made up so my wife and I used that one then we find shock horror no heating or hot water at to use a friend's shower who was stopping at another guest house the butterchurn I am still had no apoligy from the owners of Bertie's and still not received half of my bill wish the young lass had said would happen totally disgusted how my wife and I have been treated I am 70years old in all my years I have never been treated like this I also left bank details with the young lass who served brakfast so no excuses please 10days have past still not received any refund as promised. Ps like to thank the owners for my refund of half of my fee place would of been lovely if not for no hot water

Made a reservation on January 24th, contacted the property after five days to cancel the reservation and request a refund as per policy; they stated as long as refund is requested six day or weeks - not sure they know it themselves - the refund will be fully.
Emailed them eight times, only had a reply once saying they “had issues with receiving emails “ and that was toctrspond to my email number 4; told me they would check their email the day after as they were off….as you would on an hotel…heard nothing since that and to the following four emails I se t since!!! Tried to ring the. And conveniently they have no contact number…very common for an hotel not to have a telephone number….no red flags there !! Drove there
On Friday the 23/02 at 3pm and conventily no answer to the door and website shows close as off now, 18:14pm on a Saturday?

Incredibly concerning experience as they had no issues taking the money for a reservation in July 24, however when it come to cancel reservation and refund clients, well then they have emails issues, no time to reply and conveniently ama no answer if you tune up to the location…..be very careful people….be careful.

Just returned from a 2 night stay as attended a wedding at Woodhill Hall. We had a fabulous stay ! The rooms were very clean and tastefully decorated. The staff were friendly and polite and knocked up a great full English for breakfast. Would definitely stay here again .. would suggest a couple more hooks in the room (prickly pear) but other than that it was great !!

Our stay at Bertie’s was incredible, the room was beautiful. It was so clean and spacious. The decor was so cool and you could tell that it was personally designed. Corinne was so lovely, her and her husband even offered us a lift up to woodhill hall where we were attending a wedding (equally stunning venue!). We had a wonderful breakfast in the morning and will definitely be back!
