I stayed on a bed only basis for 1 night on my own whilst my husband took part in a 24 hour event close by. I found the bed very comfy and the bedding cosy and despite being a light sleeper I wasn't disturbed by road noise at all. Yes the shower rooms could do with an update, but it was very clean and the towels soft and fluffy. The water was powerful and hot. Plenty of tea/coffee for one. Would class the accommodation as basic but extremely comfortable and certainly good value for the money I paid. Will book again next year.

I came to the guest house for a funeral. It was the first time that I'd been and I'd travelled by train meeting other relatives at the accommodation. The lady who owns the place collected me from the station and wouldn't accept payment for it. She was very accommodating saying that we should not hesitate to contact her should we need anything or want to know anything. The ladies husband made us a lovely cooked breakfast in the morning.

We recently stayed a night in two rooms at the Avonhill Lodge. As a whole I was disappointed, though that is not to say it was a total disaster. I will therefore attempt to give a balanced review with the pluses and minuses in that order.||||The lodge is in a fairly convenient location (a proviso to follow) with access to Coventry, Warwick and Stratford. The beds are of reasonable quality, if a bit firm, and the bedding was clean and of good quality. Check in is normally after 4pm, but we were allowed to check in at 2:30 which was a nice concession.||||On the down side, the rooms are small and very basic. There is no WiFi. and the bathing facilities are showers. The rooms are much like a holiday camp arrangement from days gone by. While the staff made clear efforts to clean the rooms (the bedding already mentioned) and a fresh bleach smell in the bathroom when we arrived, there was nonetheless serious mould in the showers, and behind the toilet. Also, there was still food in the fridge from a previous occupant.||||Where the pity lies most is in the communications. The Booking.com listing notes that the lodge takes Visa, but it fails to note there is a surcharge to using a card, thus a slightly higher fee. We also booked believing our booking included breakfast. When we arrived we were told that we were not listed for breakfast, but that a continental breakfast could be arranged for an extra ยฃ2.50 per person. We declined, though this was offered again on the morning of our departure. The owner needs to look seriously into their listing with Booking.com as he told me that it often happens that customers arrive believing they have already arranged the meal. Also, almost no information was provided on arrival, apart from explaining the payment charge, and that there was no breakfast booked. ||||Other minor points include the location of the lodge on the main road. First, there is a central reservation which requires those arriving from the direction of Stratford to overshoot the property, then loop back down the opposite direction after a mile or so. Secondly, the roadway noise is continual, and can have an impact on the sleep quality.||||The lodge is not manned at all times. Early arrival needs to be arranged, and the website does say late arrivals may face an extra charge. There are no staff on site at night. This may explain why payment was requested on arrival. ||||Finally, on the overall appearance, there are some issues that the staff could easily remedy such as a disused toilet under an overhang at the end of the block of rooms. Little things can go a long way in the impressions that are left.||||I realise they are trying to run a business, but a little more effort in customer service, communication and tidying would go a long way. Overall 2.5/5

We understand the ownership of Avonhill has recently changed. The property is situated along side a very busy dual carriageway and is subject to a high level of road noise. It has to be said though that the noise was not particularly intrusive during the night hours although never entirely quiet. The room was in our opinion poor. The bedding was apparently all new and the bed reasonably comfortable. The dรฉcor was acceptable. Heating was provided by a small mains electric radiator which proved effective However, the main problem was in the toilet/shower room. It would probably be unfair to say it was dirty but it was very small with old fittings and in desperate need of refurbishment. The shower provided adequate hot water. We noticed that the floor in the bathroom was very cold which led to heavy condensation on the floor. This most probably due to the origins of the building as a stable or similar. The room was equipped with a small TV but no instructions on how to use the two handsets required to use it. The was also some tourist information but some of it was very old (16 years!). There was an electric kettle and minimal supply of coffee sachets. Although advertised as having tea and coffee, no tea bags were provided. Breakfast was provided in a small conservatory adjoining the main house, a few yards from the room. A selection of sliced bread in two opened bags, a few butter pats which as they had been stored in the fridge were rock hard, two small cartons of milk, some small jams, an opened bottle of marmalade and a selection of tea and coffee. The kettle was half full of water and I wonder how long it had been sat there but as there was no tap in the room we could neither change it or refill without going back to the bedroom. I do wonder why salt and pepper cellars were on the table when there is no savoury option for breakfast! The proprietor did not make an appearance before we left. Overall an unsatisfactory stay I'm sorry to say.

The new owners are striving to make this a place to go to, and it is 'work in progress'||But, I chose it for its location as I was working all around Redditch. ||My room (1) was great, I carry my own wifi mobile broadband which worked fine. In the evenings, I could sit out in the pleasant surroundings of the garden and in the main house conservatory, the part continental breakfast was quite adequate and sufficient.||The owner, his wife (& son) and her mother do a great job and I certainly got value for money and would recommend Avonhill very well; whenever I am in the midlands, this will be my choice.
