Went as a family on Christmas day . The service was deplorable, the food even worse. One hour and 40 minutes between first and second course, when I approached the lady staff member, who I learned was the manager , I was basically ignored. The food was barely warm and mostly inedible. Take no notice of the menu, what you get is nothing like what you ordered. After three and a half hours we asked for our dessert to take away. A circle of Christmas pudding, a creme brulé in a teacup (which looked and tasted like angel delight) and pink candy floss was given to us... And a bill that was £200 wrong in their benefit ! Would I recommend ? .....not in a million years. Shocking service, shocking food but one we will remember, for the wrong reasons !

I was nervous after reading bad recent reviews whilst already sitting at the table but I couldn’t fault our experience! Staff were friendly and approachable not rude. We had the Piggy Burger and Peppercorn chicken and both were delicious. The portion size of the chicken was a pleasant surprise as some places are stingy and the vegetables were actually incredible. This isn’t local to use but I now want to return for the Sunday dinner!

Walked in the bar and no staff around, Waited 5 minutes, went upstairs to look for someone to check if the place was open, made to feel like an inconvenience disturbing the staff talking. The girl who served us was pleasant enough, but who I assume was a manager was rude and obviously not giving correct training to staff. Card machine brought over to table before food arrived, we paid. After thinking it was more than expected we asked for the receipt, Charged for 2 meals when it should be 2-4-1, a mistake which was rectified when pointed out, then charged £14 for a drink we were told was £6. The whole place was completely empty, such a shame as it is a lovely place, could be a cosy pub lunch spot but the hospitality or lack of would stop us returning. Food was okay, but burgers served in a basket?! They are advertising so much on Facebook etc maybe should focus more of the customers who actually come in.

Middle of the rolling hills with plenty parking.
First of all the service was impeccable. Friendly, thoughtful and not intrusive.
The menu has plenty choices for our group including various diet needs. I had delicious king prawns with a chilli sauce. Then we were hankering after good comfort food and the ‘proper pies’ with vegetables and ‘proper chips’ did not disappoint with ‘lush gravy’. Just wish I could manage Northern portions. No puds as we were topped up. Worthy a return visit.

Location, Great.

Hotel Rooms, dated and in need of some love. No heating controls in the rooms - the thermostat is at "floor" level.

Food, evening food wasn't great quality. We had breakfast included with the room. We went to breakfast - out of date cereal boxes on the table, and asked for a menu and was told by the only staff member there "I don't know, I don't work here I got asked to do this last night", then offered up "full English" breakfasts as an option. It was the standard you'd expect if everything was cooked in the same pan.

We had breakfast included for the second night, but we chose to go into Chester-le-Street and get it elsewhere.

It's a very average 2-star hotel that if you check against the criteria in the UK, charging 3-star hotel rates. If you're stuck for somewhere, it's clean and ok for a night, but I'd shop around for a better deal and eat in Chester-le-Street.

It was very quiet when we came here, mid-week evening. Staff were very professional and attentive. Good range on the menu and the food was great.
