Our "double" room had twin beds pushed together with the mattresses held together by a sheet. One mattress was considerably thinner and lower than the other; also so saggy you could feel the baseboard. Reception said they couldn't do anything. On Sunday there was no hot water - we told Reception who said they already had someone working on it, and it was fixed by 9:30 but still not a great start to the day. It's an old building and the pipes groaned loudly when anyone in the staircase used the water so I guess there's not much they can do.|We booked two rooms and they were far apart on different staircases, apparently because different room types (double / twin) are on different floors. Since the double was just a twin with the beds pushed together that's rather a poor excuse.|Breakfast was nice though, and the location is amazing (10 minute steep uphill walk from the nearest car park, but they do warn you about that).

Just back from a weekend at this venue. we were there with a group of around 50 people for a social event. The location in the centre of Durham near the castle and the cathedral is excellent and it is very convenient for shops and restaurants etc.||||As I say, we were there with a group and the catering was laid on with a buffet on Friday evening. The selection wasn't really to my taste but everyone else seemed very happy with it so it's probably just me.||||I didn't have high hopes for the breakfast next morning but was very pleasantly surprised. There was a large array of cereals and I spotted some cold meat, croissants and stuff but was drawn to the 'help yourself full English'. I did just that and had a fat boy plateful with sausages, bacon fried eggs etc. and very tasty it was too.||||Saturday evening was a 'sit down' 3 course dinner laid on for our event (a motorcycle rally) and boy did I feel under dressed! If you can imagine a bunch of mainly middle aged bikers dressed in a variety of denim and leather sitting at tables laid for silver service with lit candles you might get the idea. The organiser told me it wasn't exactly what he had been expecting but we were not complaining and the staff were very attentive.||The food was hot, tasty and served promptly... If you are thinking of having an event here I can heartily recommend the catering! The staff were generally very welcoming and helpful over the weekend.||||Our room was very large with en suite facilities and the usual tea/coffee making facilities, I have stayed in far worse hotels! I understand we won't be able to use the venue again next year as there are plans to upgrade and renovate it. I look forward to returning after that is done but had an excellent weekend just the way it is.||||Oh and the breakfast on Sunday morning was just as good.... kept me going all the way back to Scotland!

We were staying in the Castle (see separate review) but had to move here due to works being done at the castle.||A much bigger room (A03) than the castle with better shower and beds (no complaints about the castle tho'!). Twin beds were fine (think the mattresses were sprung not foam and therefore better) and more room for cat swinging!||Great location and a brilliant buffet breakfast in the Hall. Very special as there were very few people staying when we were there.||Thoroughly recommended especially if you can't get a good room at the Castle. Beware which room you get at the Castle as we overheard some people say that it was a long climb up to the top rooms only to find 'average' student accommodation - which is exactly what it is, of course!||Recommend Hatfield College.

Stayed here as part of a course for 4 days in the Easter break, and it was one of the best course accommodations I have ever stayed in. ||||It is usually a twin room, but the two beds were pushed together which meant that it was an absolutely massive bed (which was very comfortable) in a really big room. Had an en suite which was also very good.||||They kindly provide ear plugs for those who are not used to the chiming of the cathedral, which definitely help drown them out in the morning. Food provided was fine - nothing amazing but it was perfectly fine! Would definitely stay here again if given the chance.

As other reviewers have pointed out it is back to student days so don't expect anything too fancy. It is in a very central position and provides good value for the price. The bed and flat was comfortable but our main issue was that it was so cold. We had to sit in the room wrapped in blankets because the University doesn't turn the heating on until a set date. ||Breakfast was good for this kind of establishment and the staff were friendly.

I stayed at Hatfield College for three days while looking for permanent accommodation for my PhD. The room was very clean and the breakfast was amazing. I had a problem with the hot water in the shower on my first day and I was promptly given another room (with a lovely view of the river). The staff I dealt with (Rebecca and Bob) were incredibly friendly and helpful at all times. I really enjoyed my stay and would recommend Hatfield College to anyone visiting Durham for a few days.

As other reviews point out , it is back to student days. But its central Durham walking distance to the cathedral (great during the day but you may think differently with bells through the night) .Superb breakfast . Basic rooms e.g. some would expect a radio or TV but they would blare through thin walls. However price is also basic. So would recommend with 'eyes open'

Basic room but comfortable and clean. No television but I was happy about that. |Security was also very good and the breakfast buffet was excellent. The staff were helpful and had good knowledge of the area.
