What a lovely little hotel. Staff were absolutely lovely. The room was very spacious. People moaning about the rooms being cold is untrue we stayed one night with minus temperatures and the room was lovely. The pressure In the shower nearly took my skin off which is how I like it. Possibly the best steak I have ever had for the evening meal. The breakfast was lovely and freshly cooked. Can’t wait to go back definitely staying there again. The location is amazing with lovely walks along the canal

The only redeeming thing about this hotel is the staff friendliness!
Rooms are the most dated I've seen and the coldest I have ever stayed in. Fully dressed, hoodie, joggers and socks on for bed is a first. Shower didn't work as was leaking so had no pressure not that I was willing to get a shower as the room was so cold! Shower head attached to taps style shower. There is a heater but the rooms are so large it never quite made it to a comfortable temperature. Maybe worth popping on when you know the room is booked?
Very few plugs sockets in practical places.
Upholstery was dirty on the furniture. The guest book describes the wifi as keeping up with the times but it's unsecured.
Apparently you can get room service but there was no menu and no telephone so not sure how?
Beds are hard and poor quality.
Bedding was clean. Room is reasonably clean if you don't look too closely. Actually later noticed the tide mark on the bath 🤯
My neighbour managed to set the fire alarm off by opening his door and there was quite some time before this was reset and there seemed to be no guidance from the staff. Twice!
The pictures made it look idyllic but it's in desperate need of updating on all levels. Based on AA ratings it wouldn't actually meet the requirements for a 1 star 😕
Edit: throughout the night the fire alarm went off a total of 4 times as late as 11pm.
When I called reception to order room service (from my mobile as no internal phones) it was recommended that I go to reception to collect a menu or order at the bar (maybe you could put the menu on the website)?
When checking out there was no staff at reception and the number to call diverted to voicemail so I was unable to obtain a VAT invoice.
Now in the car and thawing out 🙄

The website offers little no information unless you're planning on booking a wedding

Afternoon tea for 2. Visited 18/02/25

Food was ok, a bit limited and could have maybe added a little to it. Tea and Coffee were fine, refills offered.

Service, nice lady who seemed to be covering reception, and the dining area which was in a separate building, she was excellent.

Had a great Christmas party experience with friends. The meal was the best we've ever had at this type of event. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. Good value for money. Will definitely look at returning here for our Christmas get together next year

Went here for afternoon tea but what a waste of my money.
The cakes were not individually baked. The selection was lemon, chocolate and Victoria sponge but it was sliced from a larger cake that looked shop bought. The scene was flat and claggy and the sandwiched were sloppy. The cucumber one had half a slice of cucumber per finger. We had to ask for our tea to be refilled and in the end we gave up and left. I really wish we could upload photos.
Shame really as the place has some cute scenery.

We had a lovely overnight stay, which included our dog. What a lovely location, in the country yet in the city. I'd definitely stay here again, yes the room was a little dated, but when you've a dog in tow you tend not to expect 5 star rooms, so this was more than acceptable.|Thank you to the staff, all very kind and curtious. Also the food was more than acceptable for breakfast and dinner. Thank you.

We booked this hotel last minute and lady on phone was very helpful and sorted us a ‘family room’ as we are 2 adults and 1 child stating that our son would have a proper bed rather than a z bed.|We don’t arrive until approx 9.30pm, as had been with friends all day, and lady on the front desk was polite and informative.|On walking to our room we commented on how cold the corridors were and, sadly, our room was no different. There was a tiny electrical heater in the corner (not suitable for the room size) and half the buttons were broken. We called reception asking for an electrical heater of some sort but she said they didn’t have any due to safety reasons, however, she did bring us up some blankets. We went to bed with clothes on as well as PJs due to it being so cold. I was awake until 3.30am which is when it actually started to warm up and able to nod off. There was also a continuous vibrating/humming noise similar to a generator which was also making it hard to sleep. Mattress exceptionally old and could feel every spring in your back, need replacing. |Bathroom - was even colder than the bedroom and we were told to keep the door shut due to setting off the fire alarm when having a shower. The shower pressure was ok but was very hard to have a shower if you’re over 3ft in height. Shower gel and hand soap provided. There was nowhere to hang anything, not even the hand towel provided.|Restaurant was also quite chilly and one lady was serving which meant things took a while. Toast, cereal selection and juices available to help yourself. Cooked breakfast was ordered if you wanted it. Tea and coffee to order to. |Check out - ironically the desk wasn’t manned and a box to leave your key so no opportunity to discuss problems. Afraid we will not be returning as wasn’t even value for money!

15th January 2025. Booked room at 08.00pm as I was unexpectedly delayed on journey. Arrived at hotel at 10.00pm and directed to a family room, Double bed and 2 Singles. Room was freezing cold, NO heater on at all. Small electric panel heater on wall. Even boiled kettle repeatedly to get a glimmer of warmth into the room. Pulled single duvets off 2 other beds and went to bed fully dressed. Just kicked shoes off. They could have gone and switched heater on when booking was made over the phone., but that would have involved "Thinking" and "Service", both of which are obviously in short supply at this establishment.
Hotel generally tired and in need of general maintenance.
