Good place for traditional British food- if you like pies, jacket potatotes and similar kind of food. Tried their Spaghetti Bolognese and jacket potato. Taste was all right, not a lot of flavours or spices. But I guess that makes it authentic to the demands of the cuisine.

Super quick, friendly service. Enormous portions. Very positive nice vibes overall. Reasonable prices. They have much more seating in comparison to other places inside Covered Market.

This café is definitely worth a trip to Oxford! I couldn't find authentic English food anywhere in London, but this place nailed it! We were strolling through the covered market when I saw a man at a table eating something incredibly appetizing. I sneakily took a photo and rushed to the waiter: "Show me what this is on the menu! I need it!"

We ended up ordering a steak and kidney pie with mushrooms, peas, and potatoes, and also fish and chips of course.

Then we had real scones for dessert, complete with clotted cream and jam. The waitstaff were very pleasant and helped us with our choices.
I highly recommend this place. It's been around for 100 years!

Ain’t been here for years but went here this morning and the food and the service was excellent, had their Mochas and it’s really lovely chocolatey, we also had the Full Breakfast and The May Day Breakfast and just to say the May Day Breakfast is an absolute gut filler!!! If had choice I’d give 10 stars 🤩🤩✨✨✨

Arrived in Oxford a little earlier than expected and took the opportunity to sit down for a breakfast at Brown's. Service was friendly and helpful, food was delicious. I had the Brown's bap and a pot of tea for one. My son had fried eggs on toast and a glass of apple juice. The bap was full to bursting with sausage, egg and bacon. All was cooked to perfection. A little more expensive than the regular greasy spoon but worth it

Unfortunately I was a hit underwhelmed by my veg English breakfast. I really wanted to love this cafe as the prices are reasonable and it is in an amazing location however I found the food was not very fresh and was a bit cold / greasy.

I was so glad to finally found this cafe inside the Covered Market where I can enjoy a traditional English breakfast set before I left Oxford. This is a lovely place with comfortable seatings, the lady at the cashier counter was friendly and cheerful and there were also some traditional goodies which I would love to try out if it's not because of time constraints. I like the breakfast set I ordered, it was of generous portion and it was tasty and satisfying. Do give it a try if you happen to be in Oxford. Location of the cafe is near the Market street entrance.

Brown's Cafe was a good place for me to get a fast sit-down café meal. I ordered an English breakfast with beans and toast. As an American tourist, I can say I thought it was pretty good (I specify because I am not an English food connoisseur). I had my food within maybe 5–10 minutes of ordering it. The waiter or counter staff did not seem thrilled, in his mannerisms, that I was a tourist; I'm excluding this primary due to my subjective interpretation.
Overall, I recommend this cafe to anyone looking for a fast bite to eat, particularly students.

Tucked away inside Oxford's famous covered market is 'Brown's' cafe.
Traditional wooden furniture greets you and the service is gentle and friendly. I forgot my orange juice at counter and they kindly brought it over.
The May Day (think full English) breakfast was tasty and filling.

My only minus was the price. Even living in London I'm still a firm believer that you can find a breakfast and coffee for £10-12.

With my OJ and latte, mine came to £17.

Lovely food though, and the vintage menu on the wall, showing original prices in shillings was a beautiful touch. JB
