Don't believe the pictures online - this place is run down and dirty. Hall and room carpets have stains and big spots of dirt. Looks like a years worth of dust on some furniture. Says 24/7 front desk but most of time no one is there - just a number to call. Requested room on 1st floor for accessibility and no one said it was up a steep flight of stairs.

The room itself was OK. It looked like it had recently been refurbished but there were many "unfinished" little bits.
We got back to the hotel at gone midnight to find people doing DIY work in the reception area, this went on till after 1am
We were woken at 6.30am to the sound of someone trying to kick in the front door of the hotel.

The shower was great, but only had one temperature, scalding hot.
Towels were stained.
All in all not great, but you get what you pay for.

We stayed at Christmas and used the car park which they advertise. We then get a parking ticket sent to us by a parking fine company?! ||I contact the hotel a number of times, they haven't done anything to delete the ticket, now the fine company are sending us more letters asking for more money. When I email the hotel they don't reply and when I try ringing their number, no one picks up.

Place could do with a good clean . Like others couldn’t check in till 5 even though it clearly states from 3 on website . Parking is a nightmare as I parked in carpark at back then when I got up at 5 to go to work I found I couldn’t get my van out and had to wait for others to go. Room was very basic and the carpets felt so dirty I wore socks . Overall experience I’d say was bad and definitely wouldn’t recommend . I had booked for 7 nights but ended up leaving after 3

Update: Don't use this hotel!!! I have just received a PCN (civil parking fine) for using the car park at the back of the hotel when I entered my car registration on arrival at reception. Am now having to appeal the fine and all the hassle that entails. Just tried ringing the hotel and no one is answering.

Clean room with comfortable bed. Our door lock wasn't working. The car park is round the back and the rear entrance is up a high spiral staircase. You put your car registration in at reception.

I stayed at the Charles Hotel for two nights, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. After checking out, I arranged with the reception to leave my luggage until late afternoon. However, when I returned to collect my bags, the hotel doors were locked, and no staff were available. I tried calling the reception number multiple times, as instructed, but no one answered. I ended up waiting outside for over an hour until a resident finally let me in, which was incredibly frustrating.

Additionally, the bathroom in my room was very dirty, showing a lack of proper cleaning. Overall, the hotel’s lack of responsibility and cleanliness did not meet basic expectations, and I would not recommend staying here.

On arriving, (with my brother...2 seperate rooms) the receptionist said one of the rooms had to pay £50 we asked which one? He said room 107, he then said we had to pay for early check in, which we hadn't asked foe, and checked in after 4pm, we kept asking which room needed paying, he was getting angry, and called a colleague, we didn't know what he was saying, he told us it was my room that needed paying for (I had paid over the phone the day before) I logged into my online banking, and showed him I had paid, he chucked the key cards on the counter, saying "your rooms are on the 1st floor" we dropped our bags off, and headed to a family wake, on returning to our rooms later in the evening, and very tired from travelling and a family funeral, we headed to our beds, my bed was very lumpy, could not get comfortable, I ended up folding the quilt like a sleeping bag to take some of the uncomfortable mattress away (it didn't help) the pillows were very hard too, I had a terrible sleep, in the morning I headed for the shower, it was filthy, mould and awful stains behind the sink, and in the shower (I took photos of this) on closer inspection, there were also stains on my sheet, all this made me feel quite dirty (unclean)
I would NEVER stayed here again, nor would I recommend it, very disappointed after a sad wkend as it was.
If I could upload the pictures I would.
Please don't waste your money staying here.

So on arrival there was a sign that said phone this number to get in . I did so! I then was told he will send me another number of the person who was on for the weekend. Luckily he was that long but to be honest it shouldn’t be like this . |This is my 3rd visit to this place and was definitely the worst . |We were given our rooms and when I got into mine there was paint on the carpets the mirror was off the wall the bathroom shower on first inspection was extremely dirty . The heated towel rail had months worth of dust on it . The tv wouldn’t connect I feel the list was endless. To top it off for me was I went to get a shower and it was freezing cold now after staying here before I know you have to switch the water on before using so I was aware of that . I went downstairs to address the matter and no one was there but did find two other people waiting at the door trying to get into the hotel . I let them in and with them being from Italy they wasn’t sure what was what . I phone the guy for them and again he was there quick . So my shower ! He told me someone would look at it!! |I went out and came back and the shower was still cold so by now I was really not happy . I went to bed and the next morning tried to address the shower situation again to be told by the guy cleaning the rooms your sink water is hot I said yes it maybe but I can’t get my body or head in there. So he phoned someone and he tried to fix my shower . At first for about 3secs I had hot water then nothing also the water came out so slow it was just more than a dribble. |So I went downstairs and I said this is a joke . Give me another room ! I was told sorry we are fully booked. Finally I was given a room to use the shower which was on the first floor . This was the floor below which wasn’t ideal but at this point I was grateful of . Also the showers are not the best design as they come over your head and completely fill the whole shower so your head gets wet . The showers look expensive when they were first put in with jet sprays but the water pressure is poor they don’t really work . I know in my friend’s room there was a new shower and that was brilliant. What is a shame is this place was great the first time we stayed and feel it’s slowly going downhill. If they correct a few issues this could be a great place to stay again .|Positives:-|Has parking |You can go out the back and cross the road there is plenty of shops |Lovely Indian next door which you get 10% off if you stay in the hotel . |The hotel looks bright just needs a bit of attention to detail. |When leaving we spoke to a lovely gentleman who was apologetic and said he would sort things out if we came back next year.
