Flanesford Priory - Ross-on-Wye

We popped to café for lunch one Sunday several weeks ago and had a lovely light lunch, sat outside in the sunshine in the lovely Wye valley. Hard choice what to have as its all very nice and reasonable priced. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Stayed in castle over Christmas but came home early as it wasn't really suitable for my husband who is disabled or mother who is in her 80s the stairs were too much for them with only one bannister one side and a smooth slope of wood one side it was just too dangerous, the place was hot , but managed to turn off the heating, my husband felt unsafe in the shower, we took our dogs and taking them out at night was horrendous no lighting at all apart from torches really unsafe and the dog garden is not secure either if dogs are let off they could get into the farm next door or run down the drive to the main road we kept ours on leads, they did provide a better kettle when requested as the other one had huge flakes of limescale loose in it.
The tv signal kept going which isnt a huge problem and no mobile signal apart from wifi calling if you have it
The place has character but should have researched it better, sadly wouldnt stay here again mainly because not disabled friendly or suitable for older people

We have recently returned from a family holiday at Flanesford Priory. The accommodation is really unique and lovely and the grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The cafe is open from Friday to Sunday and is really excellent. There are many beautiful places to visit nearby as well.

Castle Room:

Not really kitted out for summer. If I had stayed in winter I probably would have given it 4.5 stars. There is a lovely wood burner in the lounge and the duvets are very thick. I can imagine it would be a nice cosy place to be in winter.

The problem was that it had been a heat wave the week before and when we arrived the radiator was on full power in the bathroom (god knows why!) which had heated the apartment to unbearable temperatures. Couple that with a thick duvet and no blanket, no fans, obviously no air con. We had two sleepless nights until the heat had soaked out of the stone walls and escaped through the skylight.

The kitchen is well stocked, although the non stick pans are scratched to hell and could do with being replaced. Didn't really fancy getting a mouthful of teflon.

The area is very attractive, lots of nice walks.

It is on a working farm, and there can be loud noises from time to time, but not really a problem.

If you are sleeping on the mezzanine, being right up in the roof, the morning road traffic can wake you up.

Even though it sleeps 3, to get the best experience I would only recommend 2 staying at a time, the sofa is quite "cosy" with 3 sitting there. It could do with an additional seat in the lounge.

Plenty of parking, dogs welcome.

Despite the initial heat problem, we enjoyed our stay.

Oh! and we had an issue with a guy walking his dog around the back, looking into the ground floor bedroom on two different occasions when we were in there. I was under the impression you weren't allowed to walk around the back.

A fabulous place for a group of friends to enjoy. Everything we needed and very comfortable. An ideal place to stay if you want to visit the stunning Wye Valley.

If you love history you couldn't stay in a better place. Historical features and a high standard.
We had a slight problem and it was dealt with efficiently. Cleaning staff are awesome.

Beautiful, lovely accommodation and the staff are very friendly. Breathtaking Priory and stunning scenery it doesn't get much better than this. I felt like a Tudor on a pilgrimage staying here. The best of British. Americans would love it here.
