Last time we stayed, we had a lovely room, comfortable stay and an amazing breakfast. This time the room was tired, in need of a fix up, the paint was flaky, ceiling paper was peeling, curtain rail was balanced so it tipped and nearly fell off when you touch the curtain, radiator nob was just balanced and took less than a minute for us to fix it back on, shower tray nearly overflowed, was blocked, toilet was constantly running, looked inside the cistern and took 2.sweet wraps out, then it worked fine. Lift was out of order and restaurant closed. Fire alarm went off after midnight and we evacuated, we found people standing on the hotel steps smoking, no member of staff, after a while people started to go back in so a member of staff must of told them it was safe but no one to k our room number or names to make sure we had got out the building safely. After that we had a really uncomfortable night, next morning the alarm went off again and the staff member that came outside thanked us for evacuating and commented that out of the whole hotel only the 4 of us had come out, asked us to wait until she gave us the all clear.,again no registered called. If it had of been a real fire the fire fighters wouldn't of known who was in or out of the building so overall we wouldn't stay again as staff are not trained to follow the fire evacuation process, so we don't feel safe staying there.

My family; dad, mother and father in law and aunty went to this hotel as part of a trip with Shearings coach holidays. It took them 8 hours to get there and 10 hours to get back! This alone is not acceptable. On arrival the welcome was from a receptionist who said โ€˜ let me know what your complaints are and I will add them to the listโ€™, Great start! It was understood the hotel did not serve alcohol nor pork (bacon/sausage) for breakfast before they left, so they found refuge in the bar/hotel opposite who welcomed them with drinks and entertainment. The food was not edible and was dumped on the plate by poorly trained waiters who could not give one. The food was Described as worse than a very very bad care home. |Two members of the party did not have their rooms cleaned, nor the tea and coffee replenished. My fatherโ€™s room was very tired and less than acceptable. Our older generation should be treated better than this, they have worked all their lives and saved for the trip. Truly disgraceful by both Shearingโ€™s and the hotel. The only saving grace was the Thursford Christmas show which they loved. Donโ€™t book with either of these companies, truly disgusting.

This hotel was completely unsuitable and I was forced to end my trip early, check out this morning and go home. ||My room looked nothing like the picture, it was old, shabby and although the hotel is listed as non smoking, the stink of cigarette smoke hit me as soon as I opened the door to my room. I found it very difficult to sleep in the stench and was up most of the night. The carpet was dirty, curtains were visibly dirty, I found clusters of moth eggs behind the bedside table when I moved it to access a plug socket. ||Most concerningly, my bedroom door could not be locked from the inside. This is extremely unsafe and was the biggest reason I was forced to leave. This made it very hard to sleep. ||The listing also says they have a restaurant which can cater to dietary needs, which is a key reason I chose it. However when I arrived in the early evening I was told that they did not serve food apart from a limited breakfast from 8:30-9:30. I missed this because I did not really manage to get sleep in the room. ||I believe this hotel was missold to me, putting me in a distressing situation, and it is only fair to refund me, at the very least for the second night when I did not stay, if not for the whole booking. ||For balance: the bathroom, although lacking a bathmat, was quite clean and had decent water pressure. The bed was stiff but the bedding and towels were clean.

This hotel reflects the price you pay . If you want cheap and cheerful this will do. When you enter the hotel you will go to reception and bookin.the member of staff was very polite and friendly. Yes it's needs a bit of tidying up ie some rooms have been painted etc and some haven't. And the lift wasn't working which is a bit of a nightmare for some guests. But my experience was ok it did the job the staff were very professional and friendly. The location is perfect only a short walk to the beach ๐Ÿ– and town isn't that far either. It's free parking just outside the hotel ๐Ÿฉ which is a big bonus. There's free WiFi to the guests. In all I would stay here again .

Arrived about 2ish to a very pleasant receptionist, reception area ok and clean at least. Lift broken so had use the stairs. Me and my best friend was on the first floor, first impression was not great. Corridor leading to the room was very poor. Doors need a lick of paint, smelt of stale cigarettes very off putting. Room was what we asked for, Sea view. Room needs going over with a duster, very warm couldn't sleep that's with the heating off, bed too hard. Asked the evening staff for a mattress topper as I suffer with a bad back. No help what's so ever. Only decent thing was the view.
More negatives than positives. Won't be coming back.

This by far is the worst dump hotel I would not even put a dog in.. The food was not even edible. If it was not fried it was boiled out of its frozen life. It was a cross between baby food and slop. Breakfast was a joke. The none bacon and aneamic sausages were repulsive. Tinned tomatoes, yuk, baked beans cold. Scrambled egg was powdered. So I did mushrooms on dry toast. Toasters were non comformative. Red hot and next to the baskets of dry thin cheap bread. Toaster would have done a better job. |Dinner was worse. You ordered at breakfast what you wanted at night so they could go to aldi or lidl to get the frozen veg and what ever the so called cook could do with it. Seasonal veg was frozen mixed veg.....I ask you. First night I chose the cottage pie with the mix veg. It was supposed to be served with a tasty gravy. Where? It was SLOP. The main course what ever when ever was nothing short of slop or pigswill. Deserts were just as bad. Cheesecake or ice cream or fruit pie and custard, yes it was cold. Starters were dull as dish water and twice as tasty. Self service tea and coffee. All in all over the years I have stayed in some dumps but by far this is the worst I have ever set foot in. Toilets downstairs were disgusting. I reported that there was blood all over and the other toilet was a disgrace. Not cleaned. Ever. Went in once and refused to use them and went to my room. |Entertainment was a joke. 1 night as the other night we were at Thursford Christmas Spectacular show. When we got back from the event at midnight the so called night porters were outside smoking we had to wait for them to come in and get our keys. They stunk of smoke. Very unprofessional. Not what I expected from a Shearings holiday which was not cheap . I forgot to mention there was a yob in track suit bottoms and a hoodie bringing food out and on the last morning there was a gang of them all came and got their breakfast whilst we/us residents had to wait and when they had gone to their restaurant there was nothing left for us the residents. The time for Us Was 07.30-09.30. Not the staff of the hotel. The hotel was tired, needs a complete makeover, bedrooms were tacky and needed new carpets and redecorated. Bathroom was a deathtrap. Radiators didn't work, rusty. Wardrobe had a mind of its own. Not the place I would ever recommend. Our driver told us that he had been 3 weeks prior and the food was 80% better, BETTER than his previous visit. Well the only thing left to say is I would never go back to this hell hole and I recommend you please don't go.

Went for the Christmas break with Shearings , food terrible hotel dirty it really smells, meals not of hotel standard let's just say I'm sure there wasn't a chef cos a child could have made dinner, we were told we would get a traditional Christmas dinner, well I don't normally have samosa or bajis as starters no Brussels no pigs in blankets, no Christmas pud so not very traditional at all. Really I could write a book on how bad this place is and shearings should be ashamed that they took a lot of money off a lot off people and provided them with the worst Christmas break they will ever have. Shearings claim you will make new memories, we have but the aren't good ones.|To show I'm not just an habitual moaner I'll add that the receptionists Rachel and Jackie are brilliant, they need to leave this hotel because there willingness to help and their professional attitude could be well used anywhere.

We were looking forward to a couple of quiet nights at a seaside hotel, what we got was a couple of nights at the worst place you could ever imagine. |Building looked tired and unloved, which is ironic as its just how you will feel after a couples break away! |On the plus it has a free carpark which was not monitored so everyone parks there anyway leaving you hoping you have a space when you get back.|The room looked ancient, room with a sea view they said, it was actually the side of the next hotel.|You know it's not going to be good when the furniture is screwed to the wall because the floor moves when you walk on it, and they don't want it to fall on you and knock you out.|I'm sure the room was advertised as having a flat screen tv not a PC monitor.|I didn't sleep either because of the floor creaking everytime someone walked past the room or because of the VERY lumpy mattress, honestly it was the worst night ever! |The bathroom was awful, outdated with broken tiles, dirty towels, and bath that I don't think had ever seen a deep clean.|The kettle had more fur than a bear and took forever to boil.|The building is sad, staff look like they have given up, decor is something from the 1970s thats screwed to the wall, it smells like mothballs, thick layer of dog hair under the bed, mattress is so thin and lumpy and the bathroom is horrible. The pictures of the rooms they show you are not what you get, I think I would have been happier staying in a hostel, it was meant to be a break away but I couldn't wait to go home ๐Ÿ™
