This review focuses on the significant noise disturbances and poor customer service experienced during a recent weekend stay at Charles Cotton Hotel||Positives:|* The hotel itself possesses a charming and homely atmosphere.|* The bar area is inviting, featuring a lovely open fire.|* The quality of the food served at the restaurant was commendable.||Negatives:|* Excessive Noise:| * Loud music emanating from the bar significantly disrupted sleep on both nights of the stay.| * The music was so loud it vibrated through the room, even after a £40 upgrade to a supposedly better room.| * A late-night "lock-in" further extended the noise disturbance on both nights||* Disturbing Smoke Alarm Incident:| * A smoke alarm activation in the early hours of the morning proved to be a false alarm, likely triggered by customers smoking in the entrance.| * The lack of staff response to the alarm was concerning.||* Appalling Customer Service:| * Attempts to resolve the issue of the noise disturbance and request a refund for the room upgrade were met with complete disregard.| * Numerous emails and a phone call were ignored, demonstrating a severe lack of customer service and communication.||Conclusion:|While the hotel initially presented a positive impression, the significant noise disturbances and the subsequent failure to address customer concerns severely impacted the overall experience. It is disappointing that such a basic level of customer service and communication could not be maintained, particularly given the expenditure on food and drinks during the stay.

Great place to stay, would come here again. After seeing quite a few negative reviews, we were nervous about staying here, but we only have positive comments to make - lovely cosy little room, great shower, nice view over the village. Downstairs in the bar area looks really nice. We stayed on a Friday and it was lovely and quiet, no bands. I had no problem booking through wowcher (although I had to phone to sort it after having no reply via email). All staff friendly and accommodating. Had a lovely breakfast before we left and the owner was happy to let us leave the car for a few hours so that we could do a walk to Milldale (also asked if we needed directions).

Received a voucher for Christmas for a two night stay here with all contact details provided to make the booking. ||After over 30+ left voicemails from myself and parents, (who the Christmas and wedding Anniversary gift is for) numerous emails from both myself and parents and also leaving messages via their website and still alas no response. ||We have been calling everyday now since Christmas. ||The deadline for the voucher is now looming.||Be mindful when booking this place as their is no point of contact when needed and we will loose all of our money.

We didn't stay so cannot comment on the rooms. We had Sunday lunch. Everything was frozen food heated up. Dry roast potatoes, hard veg which seemed microwaved, and very tough beef, maybe a bagged meat with gravy. Fish was those shaped frozen ones that Iceland do, not fresh at all. Unfortunately, not a good experience. We had been before a few years ago & the food was great. Seems to be missing out of freshly produced food. Really disappointed!

Was gifted a nights stay here and was looking forward to staying in lovely Hartington. The coldest, smelliest hotel room i have ever been in. The window frames behind the bed were rotten, so even though the radiator was on full, the room was freezing. I had to wear a thick fleece to stop the shivering. The young lady behind the bar was apologetic and offered to help but the smell throughout the corridors was disgusting and i did not want to hang around freezing while they attempted to remedy this. Never had to even contemplate leaving a hotel before, let alone desperate to leave just to warm up .

We arrived on Saturday afternoon. It was pretty quiet and the girl behind the bar was really lovely. We booked a room for 2 nights, when we checked in we were just handed keys and told to go to the annexe (not shown to the room). The room was okay but was a shower room and I’d specifically asked for a bath as I do anytime we stay in a hotel. When we went back down to let her know we’d specifically asked for a bath, she went and got the Owner. He was very abrupt, thoroughly unimpressed that I wasn’t happy with just the shower then chucked another key across the bar and said he’d upgrade us to a king size room… which is exactly what we booked. He was very rude. The room was pretty basic but comfortable. There were stains on the carpets and walls but we weren’t expecting luxury. The restaurant was fully booked on the first night so we went over to the pub opposite for dinner (which I would very highly recommend!!). We did have dinner there on the second night though. The portions were huge but they definitely sacrificed quality for quantity. The breakfasts both mornings were okay, they made lovely poached eggs but again, the quality of the ingredients was severely lacking. The coffee served was cheap instant coffee and the juice tasted sour. On the second morning we did ask for a second egg but was told that they doubted it would be possible… which felt like a really odd response if I’m being honest. The toilets from the bar were in disrepair too. The outside seating near the car park felt more like a dumping ground than anything else which is a real shame because it could be made into a really nice space if the old broken freezers were moved. My husband did say the ales were good and all are £4.75 which is very reasonable. There was an offer of £10 for a carafe of house wine, I tried it and I would appeal to you to avoid it. Definitely go for a bottle! All in all, it was basic but okay. It’s such a shame the customer service from the owner was so terrible.

We stayed here for two nights. The building is extremely old and sadly some areas of the hotel reflect this. Our room was quite small and dark, but clean. The bathroom was very shabby needing a good bit of renovation and a good clean. |Downstairs the pub area was cosy and warm. The food was beautiful, we had breakfast and evening meal on both days. |There was a misunderstanding regarding our booking as we were under the impression that it was Bed Breakfast and Evening meal inclusive with our Groupon voucher for both days. However after our evening meal on the last day we were asked to pay for it! So beware if you book through Groupon!! |The village of Hartington is quite stunning with some lovely walks.

Don't expect 5 star luxury from a 3 star hotel that is 600 years old.|We arrived to a smile from the staff who were attentive throughout our 2 night stay .|The room was as expected clean tidy with a comfortable bed and nice pillows. |The food was very nice, hot and plentiful.|The atmosphere in the bar was jovial with a mix of people from all over the country.|If you are booking through Groupon, Wowcher or direct be very careful . And make sure its very clear as to what you are getting for your money.||Mistakes can lead to upset and be sure to get an itemised invoice from the hotel. |All in all a very nice stay apart from our misunderstanding.
