Thank you so much for making my stay such a wonderful relaxing and peaceful experience. From start to finish, (and after my stay as I needed to contact the host for there help) I was treated with the upmost kindness and made to feel right at home.||The bedroom was perfect for a good nights sleep and breakfast was 10 /10.||Such an unexpected treat on what was meant to be a business trip!

A party of 7 of us took over all of Gill’s rooms to attend a wedding. As some reviewers have mentioned, this is not a 4 star hotel. If that’s what floats your boat then this probably isn’t for you - but you’ll be missing out. The rooms are clean and comfortable and Gill and her staff make you feel like you are staying with friends. Warm, thoughtful, kind and knowledgable friends who bake their own bread, serve a fantastic locally sourced breakfast with home made preserves and sauces - even home made baked beans! (Delicious). We were made welcome and comfortable and greeted with pots of coffee and a chat. Nothing was too much trouble including early check in and late check out. A very lovely stay which added to our enjoyment of the occasion overall. Thank you Gill!

We stayed at this lovely B&B in the village of Alrewas while visiting relatives in Burton. The room was lovely and very comfortable with tea/coffee making facilities, a big shower cubicle and beautiful furnishings, see my photo of the 1948 London Olympics teapot.

However, what sets this B&B apart is your hostess, Gill. We were greeted with a warm friendly smile. The wall in the dining room is covered with certificates of all colours (Bronze, Silver and mainly Gold) awarded for hygiene, training and particularly the delicious breakfast you will be served in the morning. Everything from fruit, porridge, full English, lighter breakfast. The eggs are from Gill's chickens the meat products are all locally sourced (zero miles clocked up in their production or delivery). The jams/marmalade/chutneys etc are varied and different and are home made by Gill.

On the table please read the info - she will bake you a loaf of bread with 24 hours notice, packed lunches can be arranged. Gill also offers dinner if requested in advance - a good menu is supplied in the dining room.
If you choose to eat out 10 minutes walk away is the picturesque village of Alrewas with flower-decked half timbered houses 3 pubs, a big Co-op and a fish & chip shop. We went to the Crown (see separate review). Gill told us that at least one of the houses dates back to Henry VIII!
This B&B is not perfect, and would probably attract criticism if you are being all 'Four in a Bed' about it - a little dusty in places and getting the temperature of the shower right was a bit of a challenge
However, I haven't reviewed everything that is wonderful about Amber House because it is brilliant. I've left something for you to discover for yourself.

Gill is a fantastic host, both welcoming and informative and to be able to have our dog with us for the couple of nights we stayed was a bonus|The breakfast spread of home made condiments/preserves/fresh bread/butter was impressive and served in a beautiful well decorated breakfast room/guest lounge. We had the full English on the first morning and although elements may have been a little overcooked we could not fault the quality of the produce included. The fresh fruit salad on day one was superb and my mushroom omelette on morning two was perfection|Why then have we rated "average"?|We had opted for the downstairs room which is definitely in need of a deep clean and a refurb. It is on the small side but I am sure the space can be better utilised with some fitted units below the TV and maybe a double (rather than king/2 singles) bed hence allowing for two (rather than one) small armchairs and perhaps a small table on the TV side of the bed to better accommodate guests wishing to spend the evening in. The ensuite bathroom too would benefit from an upgrade to a wet room to make best use of the limited space and increased water pressure to the shower would be wonderful|The room did smell slightly damp (given the recent weather however this was probably not surprising) and was on the cold side with the heating temp being regulated in the main property but the bed/pillows were comfortable and neither of us were bothered by traffic noise from the A38 which passed the accommodation|

Gill the owner was great, breakfasts very good. Communal area and dining area very pleasant. Room, bed was really comfortable, however the room in general was tired could do with an upgrade, missing skirting boards others dry rot, shower, tiles were mouldy, chair in the room dirty and worn. Wouldn't take a great deal to rectify. Microwave was rusty no glass tray, there was a dirty plate instead.

I travel to the Midlands, to see Family and friends, and had to find a place to stay for a few days. Amber House, is so convenient to me, as I have family in both Burton and Lichfield.||Gill, is so friendly and helpful, and is a wonderful host. Nothing is too much trouble to her. I had a downstairs en-suite room, which was perfectly adequate for my needs.||Gill's breakfast are to die for, kept me going for most of the day. She will also do an evening meal for you if required.||Plenty of parking, and easy access to the A38 either North or South. Plenty of pubs' in the village, and the George and Dragon is a particular gem. Nick and his team are so freindly and helpful. I would recommend Amber House to my friends and to anyone visiting the National Memorial and surrounding areas.

Such a welcoming friendly host who is so helpful and accomodating. The rooms are delightful with soft white towels and little handy accessories such as a pen torch on bedside table as well as complimentary hand sanitisers.
Having arrived soaking wet after attending a biker event at the nearby National Memorial Arboretum, it was a relief to find the radiator on with a handy clothes rail hanging over it so we had somewhere to dry all our gear overnight.
Breakfast was delicious with a great choice on the menu. Cooked meals were made to order by our host Gill and there was a good selection of fruit, yogurt, cereals, rustic toast and a vast array of home made preserves! Endless pots of coffee or tea were available too.
