Our FAVE POST HIKE PUB LUNCH!!!

The service: all the staff were so chatty and friendly on the bar making jokes and giving us that British pub vibe

The atmosphere: luckily the sun was shining this day so the beer garden was full of hikers and pub goes which was lovely after a long walk.

The food: the star of the show this is the best pub lunch we’ve had in a long time!!!!! I had the steak and ale pie which was packed to the brim of meat with homemade chips and proper beefy gravy. My partner had a gorgeous fish and chips that he finished in 2 minutes (that’s how you know it’s good) and our friends had the black and blue burger, steak sandwich & fish finger sandwich. Glowing reviews all round we actually couldn’t fault it. Whoever the chef was on that day thanks for bringing us such a wholesome British pub meal that we all needed.

Great experience start to finish will definitely return

Staying at the campsite up the road so booked in for an evening meal. Food and service was very good. Can recommend the fish & chips, chicken wrapped in serrano ham, and baileys brioche pudding.
Would eat here again.

Went to Sportsman Inn for drinks and dinner after completing the trail.
Staff was most welcoming and accommodating. As it was walk in for 10 people and the dog. We got seated very quickly. And it wasn't long wait for food.
The food was very good, tasty and fresh.
Definitely recommend this place!

No vegan options other than soup (accidentally)!
I’m 2025 this doesn’t seem right.
Other than that the service was good, I felt for the waiter having to apologise for the lack of a vegan option. This is the actual menu, it wasn’t that they were out of vegan burgers or something.

Arbitrary rules make this pub one to ignore and find rest elsewhere. We hiked up to kinder scout and wanted to eat and rest here, however, everyone was packed into a small section of the pub because we had dogs and are not allowed in other empty areas. This forced us outside where they refuse to serve food...for no reason. It's also covered in sharp gravel so not nice for dogs. Very expensive pints 2 cost £14 and some of the younger staff have that huffy attitude of they have had a rough day and we all need to put up with it. Honestly, drive on and find a friendlier pub without dumb and pointless rules. It's annoying to see a pub turn away business like this when the industry struggles. Change hands!

A lovely pub, and an amazing team!

A group of 12 of us completed the Kinder Scout and Kinder Downfall Circular, we had booked ahead at the pub to ensure there was enough room for us all. Not knowing what time we'd finish, the team were super accommodating and would recommend for anyone to pop by for food or drink after their walk.

We had a meal from the Christmas menu which was oustanding and blew us both away. It was of restaurant quality, beautifully presented ,with a jus on the side of the plate, top quality fresh ingredients and everything was perfectly cooked . We had the halibut and the venison. The apple crumble was excellent.

It was our first visit, we had the 'house set menu' really good food, well presented. We will certainly return next time we are in the area.
