Watch out Forest Row!!
The Chequers is in the heart of the village and steeped in history from the 14th century. Currently undergoing renovations but don't let this put you off. The bar area with its impressive fireplace is truly magnificent. I can't wait for those cosy winter nights sat on the chesterfields with an exceptionally well kept pint or exquisite glass of wine in hand.

The current owner has some very exciting plans for this wonderful establishment, with food returning in the near future this will be the only pub in the village to spend your time.

Amazing authentic traditional historical establishment established in 1452, in the heart of South East England. Brilliant location in a fabulous quintessential picture card village. Family run for decades & now second generation. Very friendly with great ambiance. I truly appreciate their generous hospitality. Fabio son of Claudio is now charting the future direction of the business. After only 3 months things are genuinely on the right track for a great future. I recommend their batural organic wine selection especially Lo Petite Fante.

The pub is a lovely, unspoiled gem, with a good selection of drinks and friendly service. The building is undergoing slow refurbishment, and I understand that the hotel needs a lot of updating. But the bar itself is wonderful, and very welcoming to walkers, dogs, etc. A beautiful old room with stone floors and a big fireplace.

Unfortunately the hotel was going the renovation on my arrival. Food is not being served at present which was a big part of me staying as I looked up the menu before choosing this place. Rooms are large but not great, needs updating a lot. Staff were very friendly upon arrival and during the stay as bar was open. Parking is available at front of hotel/pub which is free. Once the hotel has finished works I can imagine it would be a lot better as it has great character. Plenty of food options nearby in other restaurants and bars until this place gets itself together.
