Having popped in occasionally to buy something delicious for lunch, I immediately thought of Fellows at Balcombe when planning my daughter’s birthday celebration.
She has become a mum since her last birthday and I wanted a special cake to celebrate a special year ahead.
My wife and I called in to see Ash, who makes all of the cakes for Fellows. With her help we decided upon a Hummingbird Cake, which I’d never tasted before.
To cut to the chase, this cake was beautiful to see and sublime to taste and everybody thought that it was really excellent.
Now I will be torn between going with my heart next time and ordering another Himmingbird Cake, or with my head and trying one of Ash’s other creations. In any case we will certainly order another cake from Fellows of Balcombe at the earliest opportunity - Yum!

Great coffee, cakes and savouries baked with passion. Small but personal service from helpful staff. Ordered a chocolate birthday cake which was delicious and loved by a ganache loving recipient.

Nobody there when I arrived but a friendly server sold me a coffee and a very tasty granola slice. I managed to resist the call of the extremely large croissants.

A hidden gem - excellent value with incredible quality bakes at prices like I haven't seen in years. Not to mention how friendly the people working the till are, and the pleasant interior of the shop (wonderfully air conditioned on a very hot day, a real relief). As said, don't be intimidated by the "artisinal bakery" label - while the bakes are certainly artisinal quality (very delicious), the prices don't suffer the markup normally associated, and neither do the serving sizes (all cakes and pastries had considerable heft!!)
