Beautifully quiet hotel in good location for the city with convenient car park and helpful staff. Just needs more tender loving care and tasteful redecorating. With better maintenance and thought has all the makings of a great place to stay

I loved the stay everything was good. But they didn’t have some tooth paste in the bathroom. And there were no microwave and refrigerator. Would have been nice to have a microwave to heat some food.
Other than that the room was very clean and lovely. Cozy too !

My 3rd visit to this hotel, and it's in a lovely setting, nice garden, has parking and just 10 minutes walk to the town centre.
The staff are nice, and the young man at reception is good at his job.
The only quibble would be the bar area, maybe some basic training. Ie.... Sherry is not red wine, liqueur (baileys) is a 50ml measure and not 25ml, drinks here were very expensive.
Breakfast at The Canterbury is great, continental and full English, so lots of choice and all freshly cooked.
The Canterbury has a lovely ambience and feel about it and we would most definitely stay here again

Loved every small detail and enjoyed every single moment over there.

And the best ever service in the reception desk. A blonde lady was extremely friendly, hospitable and kind to children. The feeling of visiting old friends or family.

A cozy old world style glamour hotel.
From Farren on the desk to the room staff, everyone was polite and the place had a positive atmosphere.
The room was comfortable and good value for a city centre location.
Parking was ample, free and off-street which is a bonus in this part of town.
Breakfast was buffet style and of a high quality, couldn't fault them during my stay.
Only point to mention is WiFi is intermittent late at night, no an issue if you're not a night owl like me 😊

What a great place I stayed in Cottage 9 in the Gardens, you can still use all hotel facilities or cook for yourselves 2 bedrooms and sumptuous beds really super stay

We stayed in the basement apartment of the hotel. First impressions were good. Loads of space, appeared clean and good decor. The king size bed was comfortable. These things made it a 3* vs a 2*. There were some negatives about the stay. Being a basement apartment it was damp and no extractor fans or dehumidifier were available - even in the bathroom. This made everything damp so when we got back from a day out all our clothes were damp and the bedding damp too. The shower took 5 minutes to work out and whilst really powerful, it was either scalding or Luke warm. There were dirty cups in the cupboards and the carpet was filthy. The apartment was below the breakfast room so we were woken at 6am with staff walking back and forwards loudly or children running around at breakfast time. It could be so much better and I would not stay here again.
