We had our 25th wedding anniversary celebrations here. The place exceeded our expectations. Every single bed was extremely comfortable, everyone slept well. The kitchen has everything you can imagine. There are so many areas of the pub to suit every age group. There is a games room, we had people playing pool and people on the karaoke. The snug, a comfy place where we did a quiz and you can chill and watch both sports and movies. An area just off the main bar area where you can play board games. The bar area, beer pumps, activated if requested, a barista coffee machine, glass washer, every type of glass you can imagine. An area outside for the smokers, sheltered from rain, with heaters and chairs and tables. The hot tub is huge. This is a unique place to share time with your family and friends. Definitely 10 out of 10. Thank you for helping us make some wonderful memories.

So disappointed with the host. We tried calling to discuss issues but was
unsuccessful. Also Sykes haven't taken our calls either.
I had read the varying reviews about the property so was wary about the taking of the deposit over small infractions and as predicted, this is the same in our case. I have many photos which I can share detailing the disrepair and poor cleaning state that we found the Boars Head in. Photos also of the bugs we found in the pub and in our cases after using the pub rooms. The costs of professionally cleaned clothing etc after staying. I have videos and photos of how we left the pub, we recorded it all. The cleaners said to various guests that we had done their job for them in fact.
The kettles were found in a broken state on arrival but in our excitement we didn't call to complain. Our error now it seems, we don't like to make a fuss. They were thick with limescale and not acceptable for 23 guests to potentially use daily. I'm sure in the last inspection and equipment check after the previous guests this would have been identified. They were not fit for purpose either way.
We had to wash many items in the kitchen before we could use them on the Friday. Be warned there are cameras everywhere. You will get various staff entering unannounced checking the place over often. We had nothing to fear though as the fridges were cleaned, bathrooms cleaned twice in the week by ourselves, bins emptied, mopped twice in the week and a full hoover throughout. We washed down the carpark, stripped all beds and towels and left the place in great shape. The owner still kept almost half our £1000 bond. Many hot tub issues, too cold, green in colour so not appealing. Kept being set to economy 29 deg with no support on changing this.
The owner will lie and is extremely unprofessional so do as we did and take photos and videos of EVERYTHING. We will not use this host or Sykes again.

Saw previous bad reviews with the owner slagging off guests and thought that surely won't happen to us... I was wrong. We had a great time, no drama and left the place cleaner than we found it.||Then afterwards we got a list of insane deductions from the deposit (e.g. £15 to "travel" to replace a kettle that was already broken) which left most of the party very upset, especially after the effort put in to cleaning the place. When challenged, we got a poorly written, inaccurate and aggressive response, the tone of which was childish and rude, and from reading the experience of others it's clear the owner is not cut out for the hospitality industry. We no longer expect much reason or sense from them so the only power we have left is to warn you, the wonderful public, that you need to budget for the owner thieving a fair chunk of your deposit if you decide to stay here. Don't expect the truth to prevail but do expect a sarcastic response (on here, perhaps?) from an owner hell-bent on ruining the goodwill and reputation of his business.

Please avoid this place... it is such a shame as I visited with my family and tried to have a good time... the whole place needs a good clean and very run down... the worse part is when we left the owner demanded money for 2 broken kettles (which were broken when we arrived) and the petrol to deliver them!!! Also do NOT use the hot tub. It is filthy and we were charged in exess of £200 for it to be cleaned... my friends who booked the place have had ongoing aggressive emails from the owner with threatening a lawyer Involement.. any negative reviews the owner responds like a total bully.. I am sure he will respond to this delightfully...

We arrived. Key in the door to a freezing cold room, cob Webb’s all over the light and dust in all the bathroom. Fine I can deal with that what I can’t as a repeated visited customer but now visited for the last time is be bagged on at 11:10 (check out is 11am) to be told HURRY UP by the owner and then to be told we shouldn’t be in this room as it’s not a dog room. Well you bloody put me in there, like my last bookings 2 adults 3 dogs and more to then point “curly dog tail accommodation” thag isn’t dog friendly. Pot kettle !! ||||You clearly didn’t recognise us this morning but that was the last time we will visit. Sadly lost a repeated client. Also a Clint that was looking to rent the main house this year.

Just had a fantastic weekend with family and friends and had the whole place to ourselves with everything you need for a group weekend. The owner Darren was brilliant and put on the barrels of drink we ordered off him at very good rates so we had fun pretending to be the barman and with the games room and TV room plus hot tub and sauna choice to do different things under 1 roof. Will be going back

Note it is a holiday letting rather than a pub open to the public . Absolutely fabulous place 23 of us spent the week here and enjoyed the comfortable warm clean characterful venue and amazing array of things to do including hot tub and sauna . Its literally like you have been given a pub to run for the week and a unique experience we are keen to do again - they even arrange draght beers etc so it feels like a proper pub and can provide a chef if needed. Village itself stunning and area very good for walking .100% happy.
