Hotel Nineteen

Located at Fall Bank Estate, Silkstone, Dodworth, Barnsley S75 4LS, United Kingdom, Hotel Nineteen operates primarily as a general hotel establishment within the Barnsley area. Its address places it within the Dodworth district, a part of the larger Barnsley borough in South Yorkshire.

Overview and Specialties

The hotel's core specialty is accommodation provision, aligning with its designation as a 'Hotel'. While specific details regarding room types, amenities, or services offered beyond the basic hotel function are not provided in the available information, it functions fundamentally as a lodging provider for guests visiting the region. Its role within the local community and economy is primarily that of a place to stay for travellers, business visitors, or individuals seeking overnight accommodation in the Barnsley area.

Location and Context

Its location in Barnsley, a significant town in South Yorkshire, places Hotel Nineteen within a district known for its industrial history, cultural attractions, and nearby natural landscapes. The specific postcode S75 4LS points towards the Dodworth area, which is situated near the confluence of Barnsley and Sheffield urban influences, offering proximity to various amenities and transport links. The relatively recent refurbishment of the premises, noted in some feedback, suggests an effort to update the establishment's appearance and potentially its facilities, though the overall experience reported by guests indicates room for improvement.

Online Presence and Customer Feedback

Unlike many businesses, Hotel Nineteen does not maintain a dedicated website or publicly listed telephone number for customer contact, limiting direct online booking options or communication channels. Information about the hotel is accessible primarily through other means, such as local directories or word-of-mouth, though some online visibility might be maintained elsewhere.

Customer Reviews and Reputation

Hotel Nineteen currently maintains a record of 4 reviews on Google My Business, a platform frequently used by customers to share their experiences. These reviews provide valuable, albeit limited and potentially skewed, insights into recent guest encounters. The average opinion garnered from these evaluations stands at 1.8 out of 5 stars, indicating predominantly negative feedback.

Analysis of Feedback

The reviews highlight several significant concerns that impact the overall guest experience:

  • Food Quality Issues: A recent review explicitly mentions a poor dining experience, describing food as 'bone dry tasteless', 'greasy', and 'way overpriced'. This sharp decline from past experiences ('never had a problem') and the suggestion to wait before revisiting indicates a potential problem with the hotel's restaurant or food service department.
  • Limited Menu Variety: The reviewer also notes a reduced menu selection, adding another dimension to the negative experience.
  • Staffing and Presentation: While acknowledging that 'staff amazing' and praising 'presentation of food amazing', the core negative feedback revolves around the taste, suggesting a disconnect between visual appeal and actual flavour. The low score suggests that this fundamental aspect of the meal was deeply unsatisfactory.

Furthermore, the generally low average rating and the nature of the negative feedback suggest that issues extend beyond the dining experience. While details regarding cleanliness, room quality, or overall service standards are not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, the poor food experience combined with the low rating points towards a need for comprehensive quality improvement across the hotel's operations. Prospective guests should approach a stay at Hotel Nineteen with caution, carefully considering the potential for significant service deficiencies, particularly concerning food quality.

Information for Potential Guests

For individuals seeking accommodation in the Barnsley area and considering Hotel Nineteen, the available information strongly advises caution. Due to the low average rating and the specific negative experiences reported (particularly regarding food quality), it is prudent to investigate further. This might involve seeking independent travel advice, looking for alternative accommodation options with higher ratings, or attempting to gather more recent reviews directly. Without clearer information or tangible proof of significant improvements following the refurbishment, the risk associated with booking at Hotel Nineteen appears relatively high.

Decor better than the food. Really excited to try somewhere new, ended up waiting 40 mins for a sandwich and it wasn't that busy. When coffee came after 20 mins one had a nice pattern, the other was a mess, not very hot either and not filled to the top of the cup. When the chicken BLT arrived they basically got a frozen chicken fillet and cut it in half and slapped it between the bread - not sliced up as you'd expect. It was unappealing and tasted rubbery. The home cooked chips saved me from complaining/ sending it back to the kitchen and also wanted to not make a fuss due to it being new. No cutlery given, no napkins given either.

Don’t waste your time or money.

We went here for breakfast at 1040, and had to ask for a menu after 10 minutes. Ordered some food and three teas and an orange juice (which are pretty expensive). Nothing came for 40 minutes after ordering, so we asked again for our drinks. Eventually, 2 half filled single tea pots arrived with three cups, there wasn’t enough tea to two of the cups never mind 3. They also somehow managed to bring 2 orange juices. There was no sign of food after almost an hour waiting so we just walked out at 1150 having not eaten or drunk a thing. The waiters didn’t note at any point that we were sitting there with nothing on the table for at least at 45 minutes.

Overpriced and very poor. Avoid.

Attended here today after realising the Fairway had been taken over. The waitress that served us was fantastic. The room looks fantastic.
The food however, horrendous. I had a burger that was bone dry with ridiculous amounts of gristle in that couldn’t be chewed. My husband had a pie after being told that they didn’t have any left. It was overly salty. It didn’t help matters that we waited over 45 minutes for the food to arrive.
We complained about the food to the waitress whilst two front of house managers stood close by (within listening distance) and never once made an effort to discuss further with us. A gentleman sat by the bar - a gentleman I presume was the owner - he also heard our complaints and made no effort to help. Another couple had also left in the middle of their meal whilst we were there.
Overall, I won’t be attending again. You can eat better food at cheaper chain restaurants in the area and whilst the room is well decorated it’s just not ready for customers to eat there yet!
