We stayed in a double garden view room. The room and bed size were excellent. The bathroom and shower were good sizes (not tiny). We were impressed. The floors were a little squeaky because it is an old building but this wasn’t an issue for us. Breakfast was also very good. Would definitely stay here again.

Located just outside the city walls. A real quirky hotel. Each room is named after a nun

Room spotless with nice bathroom - very high ceilings
Coffee, tea and biscuit in room
You can’t open the windows but there is air conditioning

If you book direct you get breakfast included in room rate so it makes sense to book direct.

Breakfast lovely and hot. Good selection for the continental and full English for hot choice. Very nice

Yet again another great stay. Superb central location - 5 minutes walk from the station. Well appointed rooms, a wonderful calm and peaceful environment but still in the centre of the city. A joy - highly recommended.

Delightful one night stay in a beautifully restored building with a fascinating history. Our well equipped twin room was at the front of the building but double glazing kept most of the road sounds out. We also enjoyed our cooked breakfast which was includeed as we booked direct .

We are already planning a return visit later in the summer and very much looking forward to enjoying the delightful garden then.

TIP : If your stay is in the school holidays there is very reasonably priced secure car parking at the school behind the guest house.

We spent a week at the Bar Convent and thoroughly recommend it for location, comfort and friendliness. We booked direct by phone and enjoyed the made-to-order cooked breakfasts included in the room rate as well as the scrumptious home-made granola. Our ‘superior’ room was of a good size with an excellent bathroom and walk-in shower. There are good restaurants close by as well as a self-catering kitchen with oven, microwave and washer and dryer.

We stayed for two nights and had a tight schedule planned. The hotel was very accommodating. We managed to check into our room early. The breakfast was continental but you could upgrade to a cooked breakfast if you wanted one. The room was clean and comfortable. On the final day we were able to leave our luggage all day which was brilliant and no trouble. The staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely stay again. The location was perfect, close to station and city centre

I've been traveling around the UK for a couple weeks now, and this was absolutely one of my best stays. The rooms and bathrooms are large, clean, and very peaceful. It was a perfect oasis from the hustle and bustle of York but still just a stone's throw to the city walls. The breakfast was also delicious. Highly recommended.

Wonderful small hotel with a great story to tell. Down to earth helpful staff, simple but tasty breakfasts and very clean and comfortable rooms. Not centrally located. A 15 minute walk to most attractions but it’s also pretty quiet and very close to the train station
