The hotel is rated as four star, on the hotel website. But it’s more like a 3star hotel. The bedroom was a standard size and nothing impressive. The room was noisy, I could hear the guests in the room next door as well as guests in the corridor. The bed was comfortable and there were ample pillows. The carpet felt slightly sticky and not too clean. The bodywash, bodycream, etc smelled lovely and there were thick towels. The location was good for shopping. The reception staff were friendly

I’d stayed at this hotel before for work, and thought I’d stay again for non work stay. The first time I’d had an OK experience but I’d been placed next to the lifts which were so noisy.

The stay started with a a query that I’d only selected 1 person for the stay when I sent proof that it was 2( and wanted me to pay extra for breakfast) this was in no reflection of the female on reception who was incredibly friendly and was simply a error on the system.

The room itself was clean but incredibly uncomfortable with the air con not fully functioning correctly and the room being far too hot. I didn’t and my partner sleep very well.

As being a diamond elite member, the options of a free drink or points was available as my welcome amenity. The rear of the voucher states “any premium wine or beer etc and the gentleman serving in the evening, would only offer me a house wine ( which as Merlot clearly isn’t premium). After some deliberating he offered other options, and his colleague seemed like she’d never poured a glass of wine before firstly into initially a dirty glass and then using two completely different types of wine glass. The taste of the wine made it clear that the glass wasn’t washed properly- but at this point we were fed up so simply accepted it begrudgingly.

The only positive I felt was the breakfast which was good variety and tasty and morning staff were incredibly friendly.

There’s a few small things and touches that would really give this hotel a good experience to make it stand out from others, but realistically for the same price that night,I could have stayed at the Hotel Indigo or three other 4 star hotels in York and to be honest I wish I had for there to be have some really personalised touches to a hotel stay.

There’d have to be some overhaul with rooms and service before I were to choose this in York again.

Great location but there is were it stops. The hotel is very dirty, corridor carpets are filthy, lift is dirty but by far the worst thing is the rooms. Old, hot, no clean air, air con was either boiling or freezing and strange electricity ringing sound coming from outside. The rooms on the top floor are slightly better but the ground floor rooms feel like dungeons, with a real hostel vibe and you hear every sound from adjoining rooms.

April on reception was unhelpful with a sarcastic grin when I tried to complain. Another lady took over who was brilliant but can’t remember her name.

I would not stay in this hotel again.

Be aware if you book on the IHG app it says breakfast is included but when you arrive at the hotel it isn’t. Take a screen shot before you book as I noticed too late that my booking acknowledgement didn’t show breakfast.

Overall a terrible experience

We have stayed in many Holiday Inns as a family, a couple and solo for work and this has to be the worst one we have ever stayed in. ||Firstly, when we arrived after the check in time our room was not ready. We went up to find a room for 2 when there were 4 of us (2 adults and 2 children aged 12 and 10). We were told we would have to wait for house keeping, no time estimate given so we requested an alternative room that was ready. The reception staff seemed put out by this request but did eventually find an alternative room.||The rooms were far too hot even in a rainy York in May. The window could not be opened and it looked like it had been fitted incorrectly as it should have tilted to open but couldn't. The thermostat was centrally controlled so could not be changed despite having a thermostat in the room. The bathroom mirror was heated which added to the heat of the room and the shower was not the usual power shower. Bathroom also needs a make over as it's dated and grubby.||We stayed for 3 nights and on the 3rd day our room wasn't made up. We were tired after a full day sightseeing so just made do with no fresh bedding or towels.||The beds were very uncomfortable and the room was tiny. We couldn't move around the beds as they had jammed in a sofa bed to squeeze 4 of us in. The beds were lumpy and made so much noise when moving that we all woke each other up each night.||The breakfast was OK but the pancake machine was out of order and they ran out of breakfast items.|The location was good and for that you pay a premium, but as it is York we expected that. However, there is a Travel Lodge opposite which is half the price. ||We did not expect a sub standard stay given Holiday Inn is our usual go to hotel as you tend to know what you are getting ...usually. ||This Holiday Inn appears to be a franchise and that is were the problem lies as there is no continuity of standards.||Very disappointing.

We booked a one night stay whilst visiting family in York. The hotel is in a great location, offering easy access to our favourite places in the city.

We enjoyed a warm welcome from the reception staff and found the check in process very easy. The room was clean, comfortable and well provisioned.

The stay was only slightly spoiled by inconsiderate guests allowing doors to slam.

Breakfast was buffet style with a good choice of refreshments and check out was simple.

Nice enough hotel, our room was a good size, and it was tidied even though we only stayed 2 nights.
The check-in seems to be quite slow though, it was as if the computer system was making it more complicated than it should be.
There's also a revolving door which is a nuisance as it's too small for the job.

Stayed for 3 nights and it was a great stay. There was a problem with my first room, the reception staff dealt with it efficiently and with no fuss. They moved me to a new room and helped me with my bags.

The breakfast was great and the evening food was tasty.

The hotel was clean and quiet.

All the staff were helpful and friendly.

We chose this hotel as it was close to the city centre and we have stayed in other Holiday Inn hotels during the last 4 years.

Reception staff were pleasant and helpful.

Breakfast service was poor. We had to repeatedly ask for food and drinks to be replenished.

Mugs were replaced by plastic ones when the crockery ones ran out.

In the bedroom the duvet was too small for the 4ft 6ins double bed and was far too small for the Duvet cover.
