Stayed at the Malmaison as a surprise treat for my husband's 30th birthday and really appreciated the extra touches such as the bottle of prosecco waiting for us in the room. We booked a Club room and had a great view over the river towards the Minster and it also had a Nespresso machine which was appreciated. The shower was great and bed was very comfortable, with well functioning air conditioning. Location was 10/10 - an 8 minute walk from the station and so easy to walk in to the city. The views from the rooftop bar were amazing and we had lovely drinks up there - but do pre book as it was busy. Breakfast was included with the room and this was also fantastic quality and the hybrid of buffet and al-la-carte was a nice touch. We will be back and hopefully get to stay at another Malmaison property somewhere else on another break!

Great location, service and lovely staff. The real major gripe was how dark the room is in particular the en-suite. Getting ready to go out in the evening was very difficult because of the very poor illumination and that's at 16:00 with all the curtains drawn. We spoke with another couple who mentioned the dark rooms so they chose to change hotels to The Grand.

I have stayed at this hotel probably about 5-6 times now, and here is an honest review of the hotel in my experience. ||The room I had this time around was a standard and it was lovely, it did have a view of the building behind which is the grand hotel, but as I wasn’t spending much time in the room it didn’t matter to me. ||The upgraded rooms are not worth the extra money, unless you are set on having a minster view, I will say the view is lovely, but the room is exactly the same as a standard except the addition of a coffee machine, it is quite a large expense for little to no benefits of upgrading except the view out the window.||Secondly the standard of the rooms is usually a 10/10, bar the exception of the showers can be a bit funny at times, but usually all okay, rooms and lobby are always extremely clean and staff always attentive.||The best part about this hotel has to be location, just a short walk away from all the attractions, and a lovely walk across the bridge towards the minster into town, but parking is limited at the hotel, you can park in the NCP down the road (Tanner Row) car park is quite tight if you are bringing a large vehicle but a short walk to the hotel, or there are more options near the station which is around a 10-15 minute walk away ||Overall I would recommend this hotel, it is a bit on the expensive side for what it is, but overall pretty good.

Beautiful spacious rooms with everything you need. Bathroom is enormous and the bath itself was a lovely treat. Would stay again when in York as it’s a short walk to all the main attractions. Breakfast was outstanding, the best eggs benedict! Love the music and song references throughout the hotel.

AVOID - high-end wannabe hotel, they only want your money. There are so many nice hotels in York for the same price or less: check out No.1, Tower view, or Clementine's guest house, or just pay a few extra pounds and have all your wishes come true at The Grand (well worth the cost)

Lovely modern hotel in an old town.
Styling inside was lovely, the food in the morning and in the Sora terrace was excellent.
Tasting menu especially was amazing value.
Some issues with parking- have to go around the corner to a paid car park- though team sorted discount and when calling ahead talked us through where it was.

The York Malmaison is your perfect hotel to stay at whilst your in York. Clean, modern, tidy and with all the luxury features you need. All set in the perfect location right on the city walls, with a quick 3min walk into the heart of York. This was truly an amazing hotel stay for me and my family. (We stayed in a family room with a hudge main bedroom area, spacious bathroom and a separate TV/ sofa bed area for children. All of which had doors to separate each area) I don't think I stayed in a better hotel.

Firstly a huge thanks to Nathan who got us a window seat and made us feel very special indeed. One of the best waiters we have ever met. Secondly, massive praise for the floor manager who got us into the skybar in spite of security's best efforts to stop us. And further praise to be heaped upon the new girl, Amelia at the bar. Really pleasant and genuinely happy to serve us and chat. All in all one of the best experiences we have ever had, and trust me, we are much travelled. The food was excellent but my only disappointment were the scallops. Just two for £17 and they were still attached to the muscle which is a huge crime as far as I am concerned. That needs sorting. Nevertheless, a huge thumbs up to Malmaison. We most definitely will return.
