Second visit to this hotel and once again stayed in the “lodge” rooms which are dog friendly. Our room didn’t smell damp as it did last year but our friends suspected cannabis had been smoked in their room. They also noted the extractor fan hadn’t been cleaned for some time. Beer selection was good and the food portions were huge and excellent value. Friendly bar and we enjoyed the charity quiz night.

I stayed the end of November. It was a lovely atmosphere. Dog friendly, the food was excellent. The room was a good side, clean, tidy. Freeview TV. Fresh linen, bedding etc. ||The locals seemed friendly, the pub was as you would expect for a local village pub aka small but it has it regulars in and the bar people were also good at their job. Breakfast was also really nice. ||What more can we ask for when we stay for the night? Oh yeah I forget there is also a carpark on the grounds between the pub and the accommodation.||I will visit again one day when I'm in the area.

Another lovely stay at Thd River Don Tavern & Lodge. The rooms are warm and accommodating, with mini fridge, tea & coffee making facilities and a comfortable large bed. The meals, as always, were delicious with very generous portions. We didn't have the continental breakfast, but that is an option if you want it & it is delivered to your room. This is the third time we have stayed here and have never been disappointed and fully intend to stay again when we are in this area next year.

Absolutely terrible!!Firstly, as we walked in to check in, the owners dog tried to bite me! The response was, ‘sorry yeah the dog bites, higher percentage for biting women too’. I don’t think it’s a good idea to have a biting dog where clients are!I have seen reviews about lovely cooked breakfasts. Well I’m not sure if the chef was away but we were told our breakfast was self service in our room. This was a sweaty bacon and sausage bought sandwich in the fridge. There was an apple each too which had clearly been picked off the floor near the tree in the garden. We paid £10 each for that breakfast. Disgusting service. We were warned to keep doors and windows closed as ‘the cats get in’. We know that was true because it smelt like cat urine in the room!!There were crumbs on the floor and in the bedside table. The bed runner had stains on it (I didn’t have the courage to check the bed sheets), pee left in the toilet and mould in the bathroom. We left almost immediately and found somewhere else to stay.We were rudely treated when asking for a refund, which was refused because they have a ‘no cancellation policy’. Apparently that is still in force even when the rooms are not fit for purpose.Save your money and stay somewhere else. The owners need to overhaul their accommodation and their attitude!

SAW THE PUB IN THE LOCAL FREE PAPER AND THOUGHT IT WOULD BE GOOD TO TRY. easy to find with good car park. typical rural pub with local regulars. went for sunday lunch (carvery) was seated in dining room and called up to carvery, choice of 5 meats plenty veg roasties and yorkshire puds. server was not shy with meat portions and was very friendly, nothing too much trouble, as much veg as you wanted. personally i prefer a thicker gravy but tasty all the same. pudding menu was great however i was too full to try. carvery was under £10. fantastic value. was so good i went again a couple of weeks later. midweek food menu looks good at good prices, will be trying soon. smallest of niggles even though the pub wasnt full it was hard to get too the bar, regulars are the backbone of a pub but none regular trade should be encouraged, this doesnt mean we were not welcome though, just less priority. well recommended to all.

Really nice local pub. Good sized portions and dog friendly. They serve Madri which we like. Recommend the Sunday carvery or any evening for food. My favourite is the Belly Pork and puddings. The pies are good and what really makes the place special is the great and welcoming staff. Fave pub.
