Friendly staff, good facilities and very clean. This hotel exceeded all expectations. The en-suite facilities were nice and very clean. The room itself was good and clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. I’d definitely recommend and would stay again if in the area.

Me and my partner stayed few times in this hotel and Andrew the receptionist is a Legend he is a star always polite he deserves a good pay rise 😃

I booked this through booking.com as Portsmouth Budget Hotels, I had Googled it, therefore found it with no problem and I had researched the outside parking fees. Sadly I had not researched the property diligently. Down a dark grubby passage after we were buzzed in we found the office, we were greeted by a friendly and helpful chap who processed our payment and were shown to our room 2 doors down in the corridor. This is not a hotel, I would describe it as ex-student room rents. My heart sank and my husband asked me why I hadn't booked a named hotel chain and I was willing to walk out foregoing our payment to find one. In fairness we were just after a bed for the night. The bedding seemed clean but a miss-match, reminded me of staying at a mates house in the 80's, my husband insisted on keeping his undies and shirt on as did I. The wardrobe was meant for a child, although we didn't need it, LCD? TV that if you sat back on the bed you couldn't see the picture. Hadn't been hoovered as there was someones meds on the floor. No hairdryer as advertised. My dog's towels are in better condition than the ones supplied. The tea/coffee facilites good. Toilet & shower room clean, very acceptable. You get what you pay for and this was cheap, the location was what we wanted, but won't return.

I booked this hotel on Bookings.com where it is listed under the name Portsmouth Budget Hotels. However that is not the name that is at this hotel's address. It is listed on the building as Portsmouth Inns. And the building appears to be a residential property, not a hotel. So when our taxi stopped here I asked the driver if this was the right address. He said, yes it is, with an expression that said "it's your choice, man." We were stunned. We rang the bell, opened the door and found a narrow long corridor with unclean carpet; really depressed by this time. There was what seemed like an office at the end and and a young man greeted us. His name was Amir and he was immediately likable. Very pleasant and he patiently went over the details of the room and told us to follow him. Full payment is taken as you "check-in." ||Our room turned out to be in the basement of the building with a separate entrance. We just sat in the room for a while depressed. The room was spacious with a double and a single bed. The bathroom was also of good size and everything was clean. I looked at the bed and found the sheets immaculately while and ironed. The shower pressure was plentiful for a nice hot shower. There was enough tea and coffee making facility. The towels may be a bit frayed but they were changed everyday, they were clean and smelled fresh. There are no toiletries except the liquid soap. ||There is no "service" that one sees in a name hotel with a regular desk and the staff. In fact, there is no one in the office until later in the day and you check out by dropping the key in the mail box and leave. ||The property is equidistant from the Gunwharf shopping center, the Mary Rose exhibit museum and the restaurants and pubs; short walk. Actually, there are two very good restaurants just nearby. In short, it is good value for money without the frills.

The only thing good was the clean bed sheets!! First impressions was a cheap hostel, the smell of cats pee at entrance, the audacity to sign a waiver not to smoke in room when the bathroom smells of smoke!! Beer bottles and tins on balcony. A wardrobe that couldn't be used as a table and chairs was in front!! Water stains on ceiling and rock hard beds. Don't bother! Budget hotel, not worth the money!!

After reading reviews on here i was dreading it. Yes the booking in us in a little room at the back but the clerk was friendly and helpfull. We had 2 rooms as 5 of us. First room was on ground floor and second on first Rooms were clean and had tea and coffee making . We had free wifi. I was suprised after all the bad reviews||Only thing is yes you can hear tv. Talking from next door and some guests decided to return at gone 12 but thats not the hotel fault. It does need maybe a luck of paint but overall was clean and tidy||For 1 night stay it was ok. There a bit of a walk to Gunwharf and you have to get bus to seafront but you get what u pay for and for just the odd night it suited us . For longer stays i would say its not suitable

On arrival the Portsmouth Inn looks unassuming and I was expected the worse. I was greeted by a pleasant young lady who went through the formalities of booking in. I was shown to my room and to my surprise the room as was exactly as I had booked. It was warm and spacious and very comfortable. The shower and toilet facilities were clean and excellent.||||Overall a very pleasant stay and very surprised with the standard of it.||||Thanks for a great stay||||Steve

You get what you pay for - this place was very inexpensive - and we got exactly what we expected. A clean and comfortable place to sleep. No frills. If you want a romantic weekend - go somewhere else. If you're going to be out all day (everything is within easy walking distance) and want somewhere central to sleep - ideal. It's not posh
