We planned a shopping trip to Gunwharf Quays outlet centre so this hotel was ideally located for this. We travelled to Portsmouth by train and the hotel and outlet centre are just a couple of minutes away. We arrived too early for check in but the staff stored our luggage while we went out for lunch and started our shopping. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were told that the air conditioning was not working but that we were allocated a room on the same floor as the reception and eating/bar area (very helpful with my wife’s mobility issues) and with a window that we could open. The room was clean and comfortable. It overlooked the plaza area too. The en-suite bathroom was compact but well laid out and of ample size for one person at a time to undertake their ablutions. The breakfast was included in the price and was very good. It was help yourself so you could have as much or as little as you wanted. My only criticism, apart from the non functioning air conditioning, was the signage in the breakfast area which was not particularly clear so finding things was not as easy as it should have been. When we checked out the staff again stored our luggage so that we could shop and have lunch prior to catching our train home. This hotel was of very good quality, especially for the price. The staff were friendly and very helpful. We will go back.

Just arrived back after a 3 day stay at Holiday Inn Express, Gunwharf Quays, I stayed with my adult daughter and her Chihuahua, from start to finish it has been a memorable stay. There was a bit of problem when we booked in we needed 2 single beds but was given a double room this was rectified immediately. Lynsay, George, and sorry another helpful lady didn`t get her name on the reception went above and beyond to help, everyone was super friendly. ||Just love Magda the breakfast waitress and our Deedee (Chihuahua) adores her. The breakfast is good and plentiful and staff replenishing things all the time, everywhere exceptionally clean.||At reception there are dog treats and unbelievably tins of dog meat |and puppy pads which we use at home so thoughtful to supply them should you need them. ||In the reception area on the wall is a sun lotion pump, again how thoughtful is that.||Our room was great a double bed and a sofa bed, nice size tv screen, the shower is great especially the Soak hand and body wash it is to die for super quality the two cleaners were super friendly and so helpful, Dagmara who Deedee took and instant like to and vice versa and Kristine the other cleaner always asking if we needed anything.||The hotel is in the Gunwharf Quay complex with umpteen designer shops and bars & eateries a Cadbury`s shop, a Haribo shop a Whittard`s shop where they welcome you to sample different teas the hotel has a list at reception of the shops that offer discounts and some offering 20% off food. All staff in the shops were so friendly and the complex is spotlessly clean. ||At the end of the complex is the water and a chance to take a trip out over the harbour to see all the Naval vessels it was very informative and interesting. The train station and bus station are at the side of the hotel so it is very conveniently placed.||The car park is at the side of the hotel the first 24 hours is free then £2 a day so cheap.||On our 2nd day we went on the Hovercraft over to Ryde in the Ilse of Wight which is around 10 minutes away again staff exceptionally friendly and helpful.||We visited lots of places, great for history lovers, King Henry Vlll ship is close by the Mary Rose, there are numerous old vessels, different things about Isambard Kingdom Brunel around the area, Charles Dickens home & statue, a statue of Queen Victoria. 10 minutes away Southsea where there is a fair on Clarence Pier and where you get on the Hovercraft which is dog friendly and only takes 10 minutes to Ryde. A bus operates around every 15 minutes to the Hoverport and back to the centre. ||So summing up our first visit to Portsmouth was fantastic weather was good 99% of the time, it is the friendliest place we have ever stopped at and we have travelled far and wide, we are planning to return asap especially to the Holiday Inn Express would not consider staying anywhere else.

We arrived a little before check in time, just to drop our bag off, but the friendly receptionist said she'd check whether a room was ready. On checking, we were advised that the room was facing the sun, the window didn't open + the air conditioning wasn't working. We were advised that there was a fan in every room. As it was a particularly hot day, we declined this room + just left our bag to go shopping. On our return we had been given a room not facing the sun, the window was open + it was lovely + cool in our room. My husband only went to the bar to get an ice bucket which the barman offered to fill for him, to save him going to the 2nd floor. We had breakfast in the morning. There was a lovely selection at the buffet. My only disappointment was the cold plates. Overall the rooms were clean, the staff couldn't do enough for you + were all friendly. We would stay here again. Thanks everyone.

Absolutely fantastic hotel in the perfect location. Right near the water. Shops, restaurants and bars all right underneath the hotel, yet it was still quiet and peaceful. Lovely views of the spinnaker tower lit up at night. Very dog friendly, my pup had a wonderful time. Room was very clean and comfortable and had everything you need. Breakfast was plentiful. Staff were fabulous 👌 they will go out of their way to help you. Special mentions to Magda and Dagmara, who made our stay extra special. Absolutely lovely ladies who went above and beyond for us. We will be back very soon!

We were really disappointed with our recent stay. We checked in late at night and it was explained to us that the air con throughout the hotel was broken, we were initally given room 322 however the window was open and would not close, the noise from the bars on the gunwarf was really loud so we contacted reception and asked to move rooms. We were advised room 103 & 107 were available, i asked what the difference in rooms were and was advised there wasnt one. It was nearly midnight by this point so we accepted the move to room 107, both rooms were close to the bar area so we chose 107 in an attempt to try and be further away from any noise. The following day we realised we had been given a connecting room as we could hear everything from the room next door, and i mean everything! We were kept up each night by the noise and woken up before 7am each morning, we could hear every conversation next door had as if they were standing in the room with us. The noise from people in the corridors was also really loud. ||The beds are small and very uncomfortable, you can feel the springs and it made a noise with every move. ||Location is good as it is right on the gunwarf however not worth the £140 per night we paid. The staff we encountered were friendly however i would not recommend this hotel. We are frequent visitors to Portsmouth visiting family, this was our first stay at this hotel and can honestly say we wont return.

London-to-Dorset

Hotel did send message to say air con wasn't working and told me on check in. I thought it might be a problem being a hot weekend but it wasn't. Fan provided and window open so had a good night's sleep. Room was OK, you get what you pay for. Staff ok at reception but not WOW. Didn't see anyone during breakfast. Breakfast opened at 7am on Sunday, I went down at 0710. The hot food looked like it had been out longer. However, it was eatable. Overall, not somewhere I would love to go back to but would if I had to. On a positive, parking is cheap. Free for 24hrs

Just a quick business visit to the hotel. Difficult time for the staff due to the air conditioning in the hotel being broken. They did not deserve the attitude from other customers.|I was informed of the situation at check in and that windows were opened and fans in all rooms, the hotel also provided fridges on all floors with canned water….for free.|My room was fine with window open and fan on, don’t see what others were complaining about.|Room was as expected in a HIX, clean comfortable and everything you need.|Excellent breakfast|Fantastic location, added bonus of discount at local restaurants if you show your key card.|Well done the staff

Great location for our visit to Portsmouth.
The parking is great and a fantastic price.
The shower in our room
Was luke warm and took ages to even get to that.
The sofa beds are incredibly uncomfortable so if booking for more than 2 guests I would factor this in. Main beds were firm and comfortable.
