House: 5stars, lovely house, great location
Hosts: 1star, disorganised, rude, verbally abusive

I stayed at Truck House for a week with my family - four adults and three small children. We had a great time, until checkout.

There was a problem before we arrived because the beds did not match the description, but the hosts did their best to fix the problem (they provided a camp bed… not ideal, but we appreciated the effort).

Checking in was fine. The house is lovely, well set-up, and well-provisioned. It’s in a great location, easy access to beaches and Truro and most of Cornwall. The garden is really nice.

We had a problem while we were there because the house doesn’t have a BBQ (despite the description saying it does) so we bought a lot of BBQ food that had to be re-provisioned. Not a huge issue, but quite annoying to have to change plans for a whole afternoon / evening.

When it came to checkout, we did as we usually do in rented houses… put all dishes away (except those still in dishwasher), swept floors, left towels in a pile, made sure all rooms were neat, and generally tidied-up. We didn’t leave the place spotless, but very tidy.
We couldn’t follow the instructions for bins and recycling because the hosts hadn’t provided the necessary coloured bags, but we emptied the bins around the house and put all rubbish out.

Because of car trouble, we were still outside the house when the owners arrived to clean. A few minutes later, the owner came out and started abusing us… saying we were "disgusting", we had left the house “like a s***hole”. I went in to ask him for examples, but all he could point to were some crumbs on the stove. He was EXTREMELY rude to me, swore at me several times, and threw me out of the house (telling me to “get the hell out of my house”).
I honestly don’t understand what they could have had a problem with - we didn’t leave mess (apart from some crumbs on the stove) and we had followed their instructions for things like bins as best we could. The house was generally tidy.

I’ve stayed in dozens of rented houses, and have never had a problem like this.
Up to this point all communication - by message and phone - had been polite and civil, so I don’t understand what changed that morning. Maybe he was just having a bad day?

So - if this was a review for the house, I’d give 5 stars.
But as it’s also for the hosts, sadly it has to be 1. Owners can’t be rude and abusive to guests.
If anyone else takes over this house, I’d highly recommend staying there.
