The schoolhouse is everything we hoped for and more. Adorably decorated. Very cozy and comfortable and well appointed. Mary is a wonderful hostess--the tea and scones were simply lovely! The view of Knocklayde mountain from the schoolhouse's sun room is just stunning. It was had to leave... The cottage is very conveniently situated within 30 minutes of the Giant's Causeway, so you can get there early for sunrise, before the crowds. The Antrim Coast and Glenariff Forest are also quite easy to get to, as well as Tor Head and Fair Head. And Ballycastle is a nice little village with a co-op grocery story and great fish and chips at Morton's.

If you would like a peaceful county retreat, the Old Schoolhouse can be strongly recommended as a self-catering establishment. It is not far from Ballycastle but it is absolutely essential to have your own transport. It is sited on a minor country road on which there is very little traffic except for an occasional tractor. The Old Schoolhouse is very well decorated and furnished. Some of the rooms look out to the beautiful Knocklaid hill. There is a large garden in lawns which would be good for children to run about on. We had no mobile coverage on our network.

Stayed here in September 2016 for 2 nights getaway. What a beautiful place.Really a home from home. I can not fault a thing about this place. Stunning views from the sun room at the back and a lovely front garden with private parking. The house itself is excellent with everything anyone could need. Location for us was perfect.. We loved it so much we have rebooked for this year and will rebook time and agian if we can get it. Met when we arrived by the owner Mary ,thank you for the scones,. A perfect host. If you are looking for peace and quiet in the country then this is the place for you. Book it, you wont regret it

I took my two children and my parents to the schoolhouse as a getaway from our busy lives and it didn't disappoint. We were greeted by Mary who made us scones and buns, what a lovely welcome. We were catered for perfectly and everything we needed was there. I would seriously recommend this place if you are looking for a short getaway or if you wanted a family holiday. It's 4 miles outside of Ballycastle and a short distance if you wanted to visit other places on up the coast like ballintoy harbour or carack-reed rope bridge (excuse the spelling!) the gardens were magnificent for the children to play and there is a little out house with a pool table and other things for the children. It's perfect for couples also who would like to have a weekend away together, there is a beautiful open fire perfect for a romantic setting. I can't wait to go back, I'm itching to book it again. Thank you Mary for your warm welcome and we look forward to seeing you soon xx

The charming building, huge, secluded lawned garden and gorgeous views of Knocklayde mountain are the main attractions for us. Its also such a quiet location being on a no through road, just sheep and birds make up the dawn chorus. Continue up the road from the property on foot a few hundred yards and you’ll come to a track going off to the left. This leads to a fabulous walk alongside the pretty, rocky stream, that leads up the hill.||||Inside the building and the vaulted ceiling holds the double bedroom, which is open to the lounge downstairs, there’s also a second loo up there. Shower (but no bath), loo and twin room are downstairs at the back. Gorgeous ornate chapel-like windows look out to countryside, a log burning stove takes centre stage, and the heating means the place is lovely and warm.||||There’s a tv which despite following instructions we couldn’t get any channels on, plus a vhs player, DVD player, iPod dock (old 32-pin) and a cd/cassette player. There is wi-fi but it constantly drops out requiring reconnecting on your phone settings, and/or turning the router on & off again, so no chance of Netflix or similar. There’s no mobile phone signal or 3/4G connection there but if you go up the road just past Mary the owners house almost opposite is where we were able to get one. There’s a dishwasher and washing machine available to use. The numbers on the cooker dials are mostly worn away making it tricky to see temperatures when you’re cooking, the catch on the bin in the kitchen would open properly and the toaster refused to work.||||There’s a selection of books, games, puzzles, vhs videos and a couple of dvds to entertain you when the internet isn’t working. In the garden there’s a patio with seating, and a thick, lush lawn. There’s a very tired old sandpit outside the games room, inside, there’s a pool table and table football and a collection of mostly broken and neglected outdoor toys. The room could do with a sofa or some chairs, perhaps a coffee table too.||||The various niggles are mitigated by the excellent value for a weeks stay, though it does feel like the place needs just a little attention and updating throughout. We’d not hesitate to stay there again however, highly recommended for a quiet escape from modern life.

This get away is perfect for couples, friends and families. Its beautiful open plan setting really ticks all the boxes. Due to the location transport is an absolute must however its somewhere I'd certainly return to however remember to bring dvds if your there to chill or a book. The garden is also massive and theres nothing like sitting out in the dark of night watching cars zig zag up the massive hill out the back. Its reasonably priced and a must as the surrounding area is beautiful with Ballycastle a short journey away.||Take the right at the bottom of the lane as its quicker to get to Ballycastle if your venturing into town.

We stayed four nights in the old schoolhouse and just loved it. A really quiet country location and yet just a few miles to Ballycastle. Nicely decorated, beautifully furnished and with lots of amenities including excellent wifi. Comfortable, warm and a great place to rest up. A lovely self-catering cottage with lots of history.

The schoolhouse is bout four miles from Ballycastle sea front so it's the ideal place for a quiet getaway. There's broadband at the house so you can get online but I couldn't get a phone signal from BT mobile. If you want to spend your time watching television there's Freesat but there are far more things to do than sit in front of the TV. It's perfect for exploring the North Antrim coast and for searching for all those locations used in Game of Thrones. I rented a bike so that I could explore without having to drive everywhere.||I'd quite happily stay there again,
