Our trip started with our room not being ready at the advertised check-in time of 4pm. This already seemed quite late for check-in and when we arrived at 4pm, we were told the room was not ready, and we could not be given any indication of how long it would take. There was no attempt by the receptionist to help by finding out what the delay was, or an offer of something to help pass the time.|We then discovered that our stay in mid-June classed as "low season" and therefore most of the facilities of the hotel were in fact closed. The restaurant in our hotel only opened at the weekend. The information provided in the hotel proudly says it is open 7 nights a week, but in small print on a different page says this is only during busy times. Nothing to suggest this is the case on the Booking.com website either when making a decision. Speaking to reception was again pointless, as there was no apologies for their false advertising or even suggestions about which of their restaurants were open, or recommendations for good places to eat out locally.|We had hoped to use the spa facilities and one of the main reasons I chose this hotel, and yet again, they were only available at the weekend and so not useful for our midweek stay. |The room itself was fine, but nothing special to justify the price. Only 2 channels on the TV worked. The room was also far too hot at times, even with the window open all the time. There was no way of getting the room to cool down.||Overall, I found the whole stay frustrating and really did not live up to the reputation I was expecting. Most of the attractions of the hotel were closed and there was no indication at booking that this would be the case. We generally felt like we were always causing an inconvenience to the the staff who did not come across particularly hospitable.

Avoid this hotel. I was booked in this weekend to celebrate a special birthday and I received an email yesterday to cancel my booking by the hotel due to the hotel being over booked. I had booked my hotel room quite a while ago and there had been plenty rooms available. ||We received no apology or help finding alternative arrangements this short notice, which led us to spending lots more in order to find a last minute hotel. I don’t think I have even experienced this type of poor customer service before. I received this message just before 5 which meant when I tried to call someone, they had all left for the day. I was told there would be no type of compensation as it’s within their terms and conditions that they can cancel at any time. Which leads me to wonder why would anyone book with them if they are unable to do the basics of honouring a booking. ||When I spoke to someone I was told that the main office in England just booked out the hotel for a cooperate event and so the guests that were booked prior were told they would no longer be staying to make room for this event. This is the first weekend of the Scottish schools summer holiday at a Scottish resort - seems ridiculous that a corporate event would even be booked in for this weekend. ||Additionally we were only given 24 hours to cancel our own booking for free. Does that mean we would be charged afterwards?

So enjoyable, the perfect place to stay. Our room was roomy, a nice view, clean , and everything was 100% |Breakfasts were amazing. Good quality products, perfectly cooked. We so enjoyed our Dinner last night, great staff . We did the venicular railway, and visited Blair Castle. I would recommend both. |On the negative side - weather was very Scottish. A shame as last week was 27* !

I am appalled this evening that 3 days prior to being due to arrive at the Macdonald Aviemore Resort (Highlands Hotel) for a family reunion we have received an email from the hotel cancelling our four booked rooms (for 14 people, including young children). The explanation...an 'over-booking situation caused by a large booking at the hotel accepted by senior management'. I have never heard of such a thing. Is this acceptable? No offer of availability elsewhere (unsurprising as at three days out there is basically no availability anywhere - certainly for a group of our size), no offer of any form of compensation. Just a meaningless 'sorry' which has no consequence to the person at the end of the phone, yet has ruined a long awaited family reunion weekend with my brother's family from Canada who we have not seen for 3 years. We are all devasted and ashamed to have put our trust in this hotel group. I work as a Tour Operator in Scotland welcoming guests from around the world to Scotland - what a disgrace. Meals booked, activities booked and yet no accommodation! Thanks Macdonald - rest assured we will not be booking with you again.||Another feature of the email - as a gesture of goodwill I had 24 hours to confirm the cancellation for 'free', thereafter 'the cancellation offer for this booking will expire and you will need to re-apply with the property'. Have I read this right? If I don't agree to the cancellation you are going to cancel it anyway and then charge me for the four rooms we booked?

The rooms were very traditional with old style finishing very Scottish they don't provide a kettle or tea and coffee so be prepared to pop to the restraunt after a stroll for a drink. The food was first class and the staff was very professional. Well worth a stay

The entrance hall, reception, bar and seating area, all nicely decorated as is the Italian restaurant on the same floor.|Our room had a Mountain View, and a window that opened to let in the fresh air. King sized bed with crisp white bedding. Bathroom with shower, and Elemis’s toiletries.complementary tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The room and bathroom all clean, and nicely decorated, with eye pleasing accessories.|Breakfast served in another building next door. Buffet style, with plenty of choice, fresh fruits, pastries, and the usual cooked options, plus potato cakes.|All the staff were efficient. And friendly. My husband and I had a good stay at this hotel and would recommend.

Second time staying here. Very quiet stay, far from traffic. Well run place, very accoustomed to tour groups. Rooms were nice and clean. Breakfast was organized and the food perfect. Close to the town area for other eateries and a Tesco.

Enjoy the hospitality of hotel staff as the rooms in the Highland Hotel are distinctly poor. Dark, dismal, basic which makes for a poor experience. Pity the staff willingly trying to get this hotel past the stage “of tired old lady.” Breakfast good but dining room dismal and stained carpets. Leisure centre almost makes up for the hotel but again, poor basic facilities, one tiny towel, rude management. Dogs leave their mark on this hotel, overpriced and disappointing. Resort in itself much better, perhaps we were just unlucky choosing this hotel. Visit Giovanni’s for the best pizza, garlic bread and ice cream ever! Staff excellent, food matches, five star for staff, food and pricing. Eat in or order out.
