So happy I got to stay here. I lucked out because it was the off-season, so I had 6-person room all to myself, but I really loved the location and the kitchen was spacious.

Asked for a twin room but got a pair of bunk beds, with just the two of us in it for the full two days. Excellent ensuite wet room. Kitchen facilities pretty good, although dining area seating was not comfortable. Didn't see any staff other than one person passing us on the way to a staff only room. All done via email including building and door pass codes. Pretty good overall, £140 in total for the two of us and a room to ourselves for two nights. Chuffed.

Room is not worth the price! Yes it is the cheapest in the area but £70 for a bunkbed is not good value for money.

The window in our room did not close and the heating did not work. When we alerted the staff they did nothing.

The bathroom was dirty and in serious need of an update and the entrance to the bunkhouse smelled like old grease.

Here is the email trail from the woman Wendy when I tried to book for myself and my two young daughters, not realising that five of my friends had met with the same, horrible manners the week before

Do you have any family rooms available for this weekend, Friday and Saturday or even just Saturday night?

Martin

Dear Martin,

Yes we can offer a family room on Friday and Saturday. If you let me know the number of guests I can send you an offer of accommodation.

Kind regards,

Wendy

It would be for myself and my two daughters

Martin

Dear Martin,

Many thanks for your enquiry.

I can confirm that we do indeed have availability on 30 August 2024 for two nights.

We can offer you....

a family room @ £110.00 per night.

Wendy

Thanks for getting back to me, are the family rooms from £80 on the off season?

Martin

Dear Martin,

Sorry I'm not sure what you mean by £80. Family room prices start at £90 per night based on two guests and this has been the case all year.

Kind regards,

Wendy

Ah ok well you, want to update your website, as that is what I mean by £80 I’ve attached a screen shot for you

Dear Martin,

I think the word 'from' says it all. The room at £80 per night overlooks the kitchen courtyard and I would never offer this to a family with children for obvious reasons.

Kind regards,

Wendy

But it is “form” £80 and not £90, in you previous email you asked, you were “not sure what I mean by £80” and, as you you say, the word “from” and “£80“ and why I was asking about the £80 advertised on the site, as obviously it doesn’t say, overlooks courtyard, not suitable for families etc, if you catch my drift.

I think enquiring about the £80 price is a legitimate question don’t you think, even out of curiosity?

Martin.

After sending this Emil trail to my friend she described how rude she was to them about their booking and how unbelievably noisy the bunkhouse was.

So take that as you will

Bathroom was filthy. The corridor smelled like grease. The window in our room didn't close and the heating did not work. We text the number provided in the welcome email for help but were directed to uninterested bar staff. It is a bunkhouse so I wasn't expecting luxury but for £70 a night - it was a joke.

Location was lovely, right on the river and very close to the town centre. Good self catering, I thought it was a really nice base for the Cairngorms. Check in was a really bad experience, I had to go next door to the pub to be checked in as I never received the email with all the codes on to get me in the bunkhouse. ( I eventually received this email but on my last day, which wasn’t much use). The guy behind the bar was incredibly rude, I also work for a hostel and I could not imagine speaking to a guest in the way he spoke to me. He was rude and patronising, blaming me for not receiving the email which they had not sent me. When he really rudely gave me the codes to access the bunkhouse, the one for my room wouldn’t work. When I went back to ask for his help he told me I was putting it in wrong, and really begrudgingly came to show me how to do it. Turns out he had just given me the wrong code, and barely apologised for making me feel pretty stupid, despite it not being my fault.

Room was lovely and spacious. Had a double bed and a bunk bed, with a picnic table and plenty of room. Nice big bathroom, too. Towels provided.

However, one star docked because the water for the shower was lukewarm and the boiler had to be reset and heat up, which took longer than the time I had (so went out to dinner grubby). And, despite closing the shower door, the room flooded and had to use a towel to stop up.

Awesome pub next door, with a good selection of whiskey, whiskey of the month. Situated on a nice quiet road, but close enough to Aviemore to talk advantage.

very noisy and needs some TLC
We booked room 4 with an ensuite bathroom. There was a bunkbed for 2 people and a queensize/double bed, one small table, a coat rack, a little stool and then the bathroom. The shower, toilet and sink themselves were ok and reasonably clean. The bathroom floor however needs replacing as parts of it are missing/loose. The shower door doesn't close well, so when taking a shower you're flooding the floor. Carpet should be replaced as well. The window was condensating, bit of mould there too. Glass marks on window sill. Linen had lots of dustbunnies/lint on them. Always makes me worry about critteres living in the sheets. Very noisy place, constant buzzing/humming/droning from plumbing I assume, other guests and very loud voices from the pub kitchen next door.
We were only 2 people and it was cramped. I can't imagine how it would be for 3-4 people in this room.
Hallways were smelly and everything seemed very worn out. Definitely not worth 90€. If you're an unfuss traveler/backpacker and can get a bed here for cheap then I guess it's ok. But not for us.
We had dinner in the pub next door, was't impressed either. Had the sweet potato burger and it was super dry. Chips were soggy.
Positives: easy check-in via code, free parking.
