Didn't stay at the hotel as we was visiting our mothering law and staying with her as we came up from Manchester We did however book an evening meal for the 3 of us as we usually do when we visit.
The food was excellent and the service was spot on . The new menu has less choice and now caters more for families and therfore more reasonably priced . The new manager from Ireland was very engaging. Very funny but professional at the same time. Good luck with your new post you'll smash it

The rooms were clean and spotless. No smell. The beds were super comfortable.

Went for drinks in the bar and The sweet lady behind the bar Robin was polite and professional with a glowing smile.

Been here several times & glad to see the hotel now in good hands again. A few beers, missing the handpull but the Caledonian smooth was on form. Had Balmoral chicken for dinner. Beautiful chicken. Great haggis. Fresh vegetables & potatoes, a relief from chips. The chef here did a very good job tonight. We recommend here.

Four of us ate dinner in the hotel restaurant ( The 1769 restaurant ) last night (6th June 2025)|Three of the mains were 3-4 star in terms of value for money. (Venison pie, scampi, and sea bass).|However the fourth, Balmoral chicken, was so overcooked as to be scarcely edible-tough, stringy and flavourless. Why can’t the chef use a meat thermometer to gauge when it’s cooked, instead of ruining what might have been a good dinner?|We mentioned it to our waiter, and asked him to inform the chef.|Only thing we should have done was to ask for a reduction in the bill; anyway, that was a missed opportunity.|The other concern we have was that whilst visiting the male toilets, a member of the kitchen staff, he looked like the chef, was there wearing his apron!|Hygiene Disgusting! And what’s more, he did not wash his hands the recommended length of time ( At least 20 seconds)|Melville Hotels management- we hope you’re reading this.

We had an overnight stay here - Christmas gift from our daughter. Had lunch when we arrived which was delicious and served in the bar. We had booked dinner for the evening and were situated in the Snug room by ourselves with a lovely log fire ( farmers meeting in main dining room )|The meal was delicious, the service was superb and the whole experience was brilliant. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was also delicious.|Its a period hotel so if you’re into Hilton Modern this is not for you - its tastefully decorated and the wee sitting area in our room was a bonus for a relaxing read.||We will definitely be back.

One of the nicest meals I have had, at a very affordable price for the two of us.

2 drinks, 2 mains, 1 side and two desserts all for £45.

Shame they don't accept tips on the card machine, as I felt they deserved something extra.

Most disappointing stay of our Scotland trip. Booked two nights based upon the favorable reviews. Arrived after very long day on the road expecting a quality room - but … hot water faucet very loose, bed missing duvets, no blackout curtain (attachment indicated where it used to be), extremely loud bathroom fan, and more… We sound overly picky, however we almost always rate properties 4 and 5 and can be forgiving of the little things, but here they added up quickly and it sends a screaming message to a guest that the management doesn’t care. Sure, it’s an older property, but we stayed in several with a totally opposite experience. We rarely state, “Stay Away” but sadly that is the case here.||I’m sure we’ll get a response from management asking for another chance - why bother if it’s not right the first time.

We stopped by for lunch while driving through the town. The food was good, portions were massive and prices reasonable. Also the staff was very friendly.
