I had a single night at the Highlander and it was a good place to be. Clearly it is set up to cater for the coach market and there were two coach loads there on the same night as me. The restaurant seemed a bit soulless, almost like they didn't quite know what to do with people who were not in a coach party especially when it came to ordering drinks. Food was okay, and the DB&B option was decent value by exorbitant Scottish standards. The room was excellent; big and comfortable. Yes, a decent place.

If you are looking for a clean place to spend the night, this honestly fits the bill. Not a lot to complain about, just don't expect any bells and whistles. |It does look like it is from the 1980s as the deco probably hasn't been updated in a while (bathroom looks refurbished though), but having said that, it was clean (apart from the extractor in the bathroom that needs a good scrubbing)|As it is in the middle of nowhere, don't expect some fine dining experience (even though the tables are all set for a 6 course meal! Yes, complete with the salad forks), you also need to book a table in advance which is understandable due to its location and potentially limited seating.|A great place to spend a night or two while exploring the local area. Staff were friendly and generally welcoming.|We will consider staying here again

This is my forth or fifth visit to the Highlander albeit I usually visit off season late autumn winter or early spring.I would not visit again in mid summer very busy with multiple coach parties . We were appointed a family room although it was only 2 of us so was nice and big with extra towels etc good standard of cleanliness and service .we were booked in DBB for 5 nights ,food was OK pretty standard but was served very quickly sometimes too quickly between courses .have to say the serving staff were very efficient credit to them very hard workers with the amount of customers to serve they did it always with a smile . It's a nice hotel very good base to explore the Cairngoms will be back when it is not so busy thankyou to the staff

I found my one night stay at the Highlander Hotel to be very pleasant. My room was a generous double en suite and was spotless. As a solo traveller on a pedal bike I was pleased that there was a secure shed where I could leave my bike in confidence. The staff were very helpful over this and again when I reported that the tv wasn't receiving a signal. This was sorted very quickly with a new aerial cable. Breakfast was good, with plenty of fresh fruit and a choice of hot dishes. Great value and I'd certainly go back.

Friendly staff and the rooms and clean and tidy. Unfortunately, the beds are very uncomfortable, and both of us had back ache and neck ache in the morning after an awful sleep. The walls and ceiling are paper fin, and you can hear everyone stomping around and talking in all the other rooms around the hotel.

We decided not to eat at the hotel in the end after some research and reading some previous reviews the food didn't sounds appetising. So we headed done the road and had a fantastic meal there instead.

Room clean and comfortable, staff friendly. What spoils it a bit is the noise from above if you are in a ground floor room. When someone walks around upstairs it is very loud in the room below and you can clearly hear them talking etc. Some quality floor insulation at the next refurbishment would improve the ground floor guests experience.

We travel around the country weekly with work. Sometimes 1 night , Sometimes 2 weeks . We usually book a premier inn. You can't go wrong .||Working only 5 mins away from the highlander it made sense to stay here . After arriving and being greeted by the manager and her dog .||I got my key and was told the rooms had been recently refurbished. Great . Off to my room.||The rooms were dated... late 70s at a guess .||There was an old wireless bolted to the wall. I think the last time it was used was when Churchill declared the start of the first world war.||There had been a new bit of worktop in the bathroom. Shower seals all discoloured. Walls had been painted but lots of rawlpug holes and rough around the edges . OK. Off to dinner.||It seems they cater mostly for the elderly and coach trips . The food was expensive for what it was . And cooked to destruction. Oh well. It was a holiday for my teeth . The old folkes were in their element.||ÂŖ8 for a glass of wine and ÂŖ7.60 for a Guinness you can imagine i only ate here one night .||The rest of my stay i ate at another hotel further down the road . No names but it was 110% . fresh local food. Great staff and atmosphere. Wish I'd of had the week there looking back .||The rooms were loud . A lot of people banging around all night . Most likely renovating their own rooms or at least finishing off the work already started . Above me were two dogs running around the corridor all night and the sound of a running tap until 3am.||But again . If your in your 80s and relying on your hearing aids.. it must have been a peaceful night .||Up nice and early to find breakfast opens at half 7 . We waited . Welcomed in to our table. Coffee was ok. Ordered a full breakfast. It turned up on a side plate sized plate about 8 inches with sausage. Half a piece of bacon. Soaking wet egg . A spoon of beans and a couple of cold toasts . I dried my plate with a few tissues and ate my delightful meal.||There was of course a continental table. Porridge and cornflakes. Mobbed by the elderly fighting over the prunes and all bran. There was not much butter and jam but so much marmalade even Paddington would of felt sick.||After that . I'd had enough I phone and booked a table for the rest of the week for the hotel down the road . Where funnily enough most of the staff go there after work . I think that says it all.||So all in all. If you are deaf and have lost most of your teeth and have recently remortgaged your house . You can eat and drink here happily. Enjoy your stay

We like this hotel, the family room we got was spacious and spotlessly clean, the feel is traditional, the food is home cooked and really decent. Staff were welcoming of us, we sat at the same table every night and loved the trifle on the sweet trolley ❤ī¸ this is a perfect location to access the A9 and surrounding area. We will be back 🙂
