Went to the Porch House on Friday for an evening meal. The staff were really friendly and the place was great, really nice atmosphere. The food was incredible! Myself and my partner shared the vegetable dumplings and cheese soufflé to start with. And then we both had the lamb shank and chorizo mash which was amazing. The lamb came off the bone and the meat was so tender. A shame we had no room left for dessert. Would really recommend but it does get booked up so make sure you get booked in!

My wife and I (together with our small dog) were staying nearby and my wife wanted to visit the Porch House due to it's historical interest, and that it was 'dog friendly'. We booked for 6pm on 14/10/2024 (my wife's birthday) for an evening meal. On arrival we stood around for around 10 minutes waiting for a member of staff to acknowledge us.. eventually had to intercept a waiter to advise that we were there for a booked evening meal. After a short delay we were shown to a table. We had 'starters' and 'mains'. The starters were nothing special.. calamari and rib bites with not much meat on the ribs.. Mains, Venison and Lamb.. My wife's lamb was actually bleeding on the plate when she cut into it, and the fat was not edible. She sent it back and asked that it be cooked longer. When it came back it wasn't much better, not bleeding this time, but still very raw looking. My Venison was similar in appearance but not actually bleeding. All in all the mains were not appetising at all, and our dog ended up eating most if the meat.. a nice £50 treat for her! In conclusion, the Porch House is nice to visit for its History, but we won't be eating there again.. Better food at a better price from our local Harvester!

This is a review for the restaurant at the Porch House. Hopefully, we experienced an off night...the team seemed woefully understaffed and inexperienced. They also seemed to be having a bad night (hurried, distracted, and breaking glasses). We had a reservation, were seated in the pub, and then waited 20+ minutes for service. We had to flag the wait staff down for all service. Ended up going to the bar to order drinks...where we received a beer in a dirty glass with a hair. Lamb was delicious. Venison had a good flavor but was tough as shoe leather. Nice space. Great location. Reasonable food. No service the night we were there.

Amazing historical venue, food was good, and wait staff were kind. Plea to management to set their staff up for success - they were understaffed and undertrained and team management is clearly lacking. We enjoyed our casual dinner experience but I would not rely on it for something more formal.

Came for Sunday dinner and this has to be one of the best Sunday roasts we’ve had in a while. It’s hard to get every aspect of a roast just right, but the chef here did an excellent job. Good portion size, crispy potatoes and a perfect Yorkshire pudding that wasn’t dried out.

Highly recommended.

What a lovely Inn and restaurant. We and our 2 dogs were warmly welcomed to the Inn. A very nice and comfortable room with a great bed and fluffy pillows. We ate in the conservatory as we had our 2 dogs with us. Duncan, our waiter was lovely, helpful and knowledgeable about the history of the Inn. The duck salad was fabulous and the pork ribs starter fell off the bone. Hubby had the venison and was very happy. Don’t miss visiting this wonderful historic establishment, we will certainly return.

Can't comment on the hotel, just the restaurant.

To be honest, the food was a bit of a letdown. Having found the place from a link saying its top 6 pub to visit was expecting better quality. The burger was just a bulk standard burger, and the chips tasted like deep-fried oven chips. There are no local beers on tap.

Clean restaurant and nice decor, friendly staff dog friendly but punching a little for the price.

We had lunch here and really enjoyed it. The lighting was terrible trying to get to the bathrooms though. Our server was very attentive and we were very surprised restaurant was cashless. The Fisherman's pie was nice but I was expecting more seafood. The other entree we got was chestnut and mushrooms which we all liked. Overall very nice.
