Lovely walk up the canal paths over the railway bridge to the Viaduct, due to work on the Nottingham side access to the Viaduct is only available from the Cotmanhay Derbyshire side at this time. Work is in progress to build a visitor Centre and car park which will eventually make it fully accessible. Excellent views from the Viaduct including Radcliffe on Soar Power Stations eight cooling towers and chimney, the river erewash and railway lines lie below the Viaduct. Look forward to coming back here when it's all finished to complete the full Viaduct walk into the new visitor center.

I'd never heard of this place before a couple of friends mentioned it, so off we went and I was quite impressed by it all and thankful it was still here and not demolished as is want from the past...
Just a 15mins walk from where we parked the car to the Viaduct...
I have to say it isn't complete but pencilled in to be finished by September/October this year, the far side had a landslide plus a visitor centre and car park is under construction at the moment... Also there's plans for a small bridge to be built across the river, so only one side of the river is accessible at the moment...
Come and see what think, but maybe a better plan is to come when everything is completed...

Absolutely beautiful walk along the Erewash canal, after parking in Ilkeston train station, and fantastic views from the viaduct (& back again)!

Amazing place and rich in history with a Amazon landscape on the bottom of the bridge and the top being recently fixed up and made it safe for people to walk on and also walk there dogs amazing view from the top also. It's a shame there aren't any benches at the top of the bridge which would make a really good spot to hang out at or even enjoy a little picnic

Nice walk under the bridge as currently you can’t walk on it from one side (the side we happened to be on!)

There is free parking and short walk along a canal to get to the viaduct. There are plenty of view points and lots of wildlife. One side of the viaduct was closed off when I visited but there is a 6k woodland walk to the other side with more beautiful canal strolls and lots of horses. It can be quite muddy and the grounds seem overgrown with weeds in places. The view from the top is definitely worth it though.

Walking along the viaduct can feel a bit nerve-wracking due to its age and unique openwork construction. Though recently restored and made safe for public access, the exposed ironwork and the sheer height of the structure can give you a slight sense of vulnerability. Yet, this only adds to its charm, giving a feeling that you’re stepping back in time.

An amazing feat of engineering, so well built that British Rail couldn't afford to knock it down when the railway line closed.

Easy enough to walk over, with great views on a nice day.
