Great, clean rooms. Fantastic shower and air-conditioning provided in the hot summer.

What set this place apart was the service from the night porter Steve. We arrived quite late and Steve went above and beyond to accommodate us and help us with the check in. Really pleased with the service.

We first stayed at Rick Steins 10 years ago and it was super . Room service and food all faultless . So we returned this year expecting the same level of service. We were so disappointed. |Our room Penrose on first glance looked lovely but on closer inspection the wet room had black mould on the walls and missing tiles by the sink . |It slowly went down hill from there when we returned to find our room had not been serviced properly. |Dirty cups and mugs left on the side from our morning coffee on two days . We did call reception who promptly sent someone to sort the issues .|On our last day we booked the seafood restaurant again how disappointing. |Waited ages for a drink to arrive then our mains arrived which werenโ€™t ours ! These were whisked away with a sort of apology . When our mains at last arrived they were plonked in front of us with no vegetables. We sat and waited and had to get the attention of a waiter to request our veg which arrived after 5 mins . |We did give feedback on these issues and the manager did email offering 1/2 Bottle of champagne on our next visit ! I thanked him for the offer but explained that after all the issues we would not return . No acknowledgement was sent .||Our stay cost ยฃ1k for four nights B&B which is not cheap and I think itโ€™s fair to expect a|Much higher standard .

Booked a 2 night break in September. Had a generous room which was well appointed, large bath in bedroom and separate wet room. At ยฃ270 per night I expected the room to be good and it was. However the overall experience was somewhat chaotic. We checked in at 2.45pm to be told the room wasn't ready - fair enough as check in isn't until 3pm so were told to go for a walk. Got back at 3.25pm to be told someone was waiting for us at the garage and why were we not there! Got to room and were told the remote control for the blinds on the very high and very large windows had gone missing with the previous occupants but it would be sorted. Several hours and several phone calls later a really nice and helpful guy arrived around 7pm, tried the manual override and concluded that wasn't working either - I do wonder why this wasn't tried at 3pm when they knew the remote had gone missing and then maintenance could have been called but there you go. We were offered a much smaller room in the cafe but having stayed there before we know it's pretty noisy so we stayed put but probably a mistake as we had a night feeling somewhat exposed and uncomfortable with such a large window looking down into the room - plus there was an outside light which meant it was never really dark. To add insult to injury the bottle of Champagne we were promised at dinner to help make up for the issue didn't materialise! We saw the guest manager the next morning at the Seafood restaurant and she did arrange for the champagne (very nice, thank you) and promised us a refund of 50% of the first night. 10 days later and 2 phone calls later I am still waiting for the refund.||My overall perception is that Steins is too 'corporate) to provide the level of service you would expect for a luxury stay at a not insignificant price. No one really takes much ownership of issues if you have any and we were certainly not made to feel as if it was important to resolve our problems, despite the fact we were pretty reasonable and undemanding. My advice would be to stay at Ainsworth's Townhouse where the rooms are far superior, the service is out of this world ...and it's cheaper!

We had a wonderful few days at the Prospect House. Our room was in one of the apartments in the house. It was a large, comfortable room with a sitting area and wonderful views of Padstow. Breakfast was a short walk in this charming little town. I wouldn't recommend staying here more than one or two nights, as there is not a whole lot to do, unless you plan on driving around to the other towns nearby. However, our two night stay was wonderful.

In the centre of it all but tucked away so very peaceful. Gigantic room with wet room and roll top in the bedroom. Every detail covered. Fresh milk, coffee machine, selection of hot drinks and still and sparkling water all included in the room cost. All the staff we encountered were fantastic and their training makes them stand out. Great Covid hamper service at the time of our stay. Only downside was the floor was a little worn and scratched |Breakfast is at St Petrocs Bistro when u stay at Prospect. Honestly one of the best breakfast offerings we have ever had - mornings at St Petrocs set us up for the day. Lovely kipper and great full English. |Parking just around the corner to Prospect which was also included in the room price was the icing on the cake. Worth a million dollars in Padstow. Superb

We stayed for a 2 night break with a celebration package. On arrival we were shown to the garage and then walked with a staff member to our room. It seemed a long way but after the first trip felt much nearer. Our room was a suite with a large bedroom, a large bathroom with a roll-top bath and good big shower, and a separate sitting room with a Juliet balcony with a sea view. Everything was clean and comfortable. The only thing we didn't like were the fancy tea bags, which didn't taste of anything (so we went to the Spar and bought some PG Tips!). It was Ed's birthday and there was a slate with a piped birthday message and some chocolate eggs and fudge. He was so thrilled he snaffled the lot in seconds. We had breakfast in St Petroc's - which was delicious. It takes about 5 minutes to walk around the lanes to it which was fine in sun but would have been a nuisance in rain. We did explore the way through the back of St Petroc's but this was via staff-only areas and we were allowed through unofficially so we only did it once. The other thing that I wasn't impressed with was that a bag of dirty towels and spare loo roll was left outside our door all of Saturday. The celebration package is served in the Seafood Restaurant, which is a 10 minute walk away. It was delicious - oysters, salmon, charcuterie and champagne. I agree with other reviews that this stay felt very expensive for a room without a hotel attached.

Overall, a good experience starting with helpful reception staff phoning me on my journey down providing details of where to check in and park my car, which meant checking in at the Seafood restaurant and parking in their garage which is quite tight requiring careful reversing. After parking up, a staff member guided us to Prospect House which is a 3-4 minute walk away and whilst within the heart of the town, is offset from any main road so that there is minimal noise, aside from waking each morning to the sound of seagulls. ||||We had a large room with free standing bath plus separate bathroom which also doubles up as a wet room. Bed was comfortable and room has air conditioning and all other expected amenities. Breakfast is a 2 minute walk to a different Rick Stein restaurant and was wide ranging and tasty.||||It doesn't come cheap and the Rick Stein label probably inflates the cost, but based on location and service, I would happily recommend it.

I stayed in Porthcothan, which is a suite on the upper floor of Prospect House, for 5 nights at the begining of May 2023. It is beautiful, with separate living room, bedroom and bathroom. The window in the bedroom opens onto plants, so you aren't overlooked, which meant I could leave it open over night and wake in the morning to bridsong. The space was private, and remarkably comfortable. The only downside was the fact that the wood floors squeaked badly whenever I walked. Having flown in from the US I was struggling with jetlag, so during my first night I was up a lot, going to the bathroom, making tea etc. I tried to be quiet but was very conscious of the people in the suite downstairs, so I was uncomfortable. Nobody said anything to me directly, but the next morning someone made a point of stomping up and down on the stairs, so I know I upset people, which detracted from the experience. The room was not inexpensive, so I shouldn't have had to worry about it.
