Had a lovely meal here with the family. The reception and waiting staff were so friendly and welcoming. The food was great and reasonably priced. My daughter especially enjoyed her steak which was cooked to perfection. We left having had a lovely evening here. Will definitely be back.

We have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions and never been disappointed. On our most recent visit, for the Classic Car event, the room was ideal - not only a good view over the Solent, but a grandstand view of the arriving cars, and very clean. The menu was nicely varied and the food good. The staff, as usual, were always extremely helpful and cheerful: Tamara, on reception, in particular, went above the call of duty in ensuring our stay was a happy one. |Thank you|Anne Hornby

We were 'just' dinner guests for 1 evening. Pleasant setting/staff and reasonable menu. Food good when it arrived. However not disabled-friendly. 1 of our group relies heavily on a scooter and had to be helped up steps. Our son wasn't with us but he's in a wheelchair too and can't transfer at all. No offence but you need to move with the times and at least get a portable ramp for the steps if you don't want to do a more major refurb.

Be very careful eating here if you have allergies! I am vegetarian and ordered the vegetarian roast dinner, mushroom wellington. The waitress bought it to the table saying Beef wellington, so I had to check it was the mushroom. She said as a waitress it was just her job to bring food , not know what it was so I cut it open to check! Was eating the meal, having poured the jug of gravy over, when I found an unusual item on my plate, a long piece of something unfamiliar to me. My husband (a non vegetarian who was eating a roast pork dinner) looked and said, that's pork crackling, I should have had that. Somehow his crackling was on the vegetarian plate. I called the waitress over to check what had happened, she had no idea and I had to really stress she needed to tell the chef and to check if my gravy was the vegetarian or if it had been mixed with my husband's non vegetarian. She came back saying I had the vegetarian but I didn't trust anyone knew. The general manager finally came over, we explained and he apologised and offered us free dessert. I couldn't eat my dinner, various family members who eat meat ate some of it. We did accept the dessert and enjoyed that, but I was surprised I wasn't offered at least the cost of my meal back, after such a mix up. I just didn't feel they took it very seriously, and having just read a previous review from someone with allergies who was served the wrong meal it seems this is not unusual at this place. I will never go back, and I am concerned someone could become seriously ill here if they have allergies.

We had fantastic food here at good prices. The decor of the place is very interesting and despite the many other pubs on offer in the region this one holds it's own. I found the staff very hospitable and welcoming and quick to serve. I'll definitely pop in again and recommend to friends!

We didn't stay at the hotel only visited the pub which is a Greene king. We also used the car park where there is plenty of space.

We booked this restaurant on line for Sunday lunch and wow, we were not disapointed! £17 buys you a sunday roast with all the trimmings. The roast beef was pink and moist with a large yorkie pud and decent gravy. My pet hate with pub Sunday lunches is "roast potatoes" that have been done in the deep fat fryer - these had not. They were perfect, cruncy on the outside and fluffy within. The veg was cooked perfectly and the service friendly without being in your face, extra gravy offered (and accepted). We will return!

Beautiful castle, beautiful view but staff are miserable and unhappy to be working there. Everything is too much effort. I ordered gluten free option as I am coeliac. I knew I couldn’t eat the chips. My food arrived with chips on the plate, I asked the waitress whether the chips were gluten free. She rolled her eyes and said with an attitude “I'll take it back, the staff in the kitchen today are idiots.” We asked for condiments to another staff and it’s just the general unhappiness in the staff. We were on holiday to have a nice time.
