Layout:|There are 6 bedrooms, two downstairs and four upstairs. On the first floor, there is a toilet with a sink and also a bathroom with a toilet, sink and large shower cubicle with an electric shower.|With the 6 bedrooms, there are potentially 12 guests, more if there are children, They have to share 2 toilets and 1 shower.||Practicalities: |Now, all guests have to do their bit to make this work. In my case, there was one non-gentleman who peed left, right and centre and couldn't be bothered to check, let alone clean up after himself. This is NOT acceptable. The owner should put up a clear sign stating that all guests need to clean after themselves. He should also remind them verbally upon arrival. He should also clean early in the morning in between showers. It is not acceptable having to step into a used cubicle.|The electric shower worked more or less, sometimes the temperature was fine, sometimes boiling hot and sometimes cold.||Cleanliness:|Whereas the facilities were clean at first sight, on a closer look they weren't, e.g. the sink and splashback were clean, but the wall above the splashback had toothpaste squirted all over. The toilet was clean, but clearly no one could be bothered to move the toilet brush and clean the floor around it.||Owner:|The owner is very friendly and welcoming. The rooms are functional. Not all bedrooms have a sink. I suggest you get rid of the old carpets and replace them with wood or something easy to clean. The beds were comfortable and we were able to open the windows and let in fresh air. The location is also not bad, near the railway station. Cafés nearby where you can have breakfast.

Booked this room to visit my daughters university at an open day . After booking saw the awful reviews and was a bit dubious but we went nevertheless. All I can say is what do some people expect I’ve stayed in all sorts of establishments from high end to hostels , this was perfect for me and my daughter, we had a twin room nice and bright , clean and George was very welcoming and informative. Room was basic , what we expected, the shared bathroom was opposite our room and was clean and modern . Beds were comfortable we were given fresh towels ( that we didn’t use as we always bring our own , just in case ) hassle free check in and we were late due to bad traffic . it was a great location to get around Cambridge and easy off road parking . I would stay here again definitely especially at the price

Had a great stay with George who was always friendly and stopped for a chat. The rooms are basic but spacious and clean, tea/coffee topped up if you need. Bathrooms also looked newly renovated and clean. Like alot of houses in the UK, walls can be quite thin and floors creaky but wasn't a huge deal when you're paying a good price to stay close to the city in a great location surrounded by food options!

The guesthouse is okay for its price and George seems like a nice person, although we didn't interact with him much. The shower is shared with all the guests and, although it is not dirty, the repeated use throughout the day makes it an uncomfortable experience (very wet floor mat, etc). The mugs in the room were dirty and the kettle too. Overall it is a decent place if you're on a low budget. I'm just coming here to say that George discredits any negative review making up information you cannot disproof as you cannot reply to his comments. This has happened to us in a different comment, where the information provided in his reply was completely false, and now I suspect the same has happened to other reviews.

Misled by Airbnb into thinking this is a private room in a home but turned out to be a badly-run guest house with a rude & pompous host. The shared bathroom looked clean at first but guests have to share a bath mat which got soaked by day 2. The hot water in the shower is heated by a small box heater attached to the shower head. The hot water ran out after I'd put shampoo on. Had to turn off the shower & stand in the cold for the heater to heat up more water before I was able to rinse off! There was no stopper in the room basin, resulting in my skincare bottle falling right inside the grain. I had misheard the check out time as 11am when it was actually 10am. George knocked on my door aggressively at 10:35am, inserting a door stopper as if he was about to clean the room when I was not even packed/dressed, declaring that he's an important person and I was making him late for a meeting. I finished packing in less than 10 minutes, yet he came back to order me to leave. This is by far the worst experience for any Airbnb or even guest house stay anywhere in the world. Airbnb removed my feedback only after half a day because I had unknowingly disclosed his job in the city, hence making him identifiable. This is why I'm reposting my review here because I do not wish anyone to make the same mistake. AVOID AT ALL COST!!

You get what you pay for... and then some.

I arrived on a Friday morning and everyting was pretty good. Clean sheets, nice location relative to the train station, decent facilities. This is not, of course, why I gave it 3 stars.

On the last night of my stay, a Saturday night, I was right to anticipate a certain loudness to the whole house's occupants, and that there was. I was not prepared, however, for a fire alarm at 2am Sunday morning, caused by some delinquents smoking a nefarious substance in their room. About half an hour later the fire services had cleared us to return to bed.

It was storming outside.

Abbeyfield guest house||||This is probably the worst b&b I have ever stayed in, £50 per night for basically a disgusting hole, we were met at the house by the owner who couldn't wait to take our money & get out of the door, the decor is old & unkept, there is a filthy kitchen area that I wouldn't use, the microwave looks like it has years of old food inside it, the rooms are not ensuite, the bathroom is unclean, toilet doesn't flush properly, no shower upstairs, there is a shower downstairs if you like cold water, no plug in the bath, you have to use a water bottle & repeatedly pour it over yourself. The bedroom is unclean, previous guests food waste & old wrappers, cig boxes etc just left in bedside drawer, beds are old, you can feel every spring poking through, the whole room hasn't had a proper clean in probably years, unsafe electrics & bare wires also. Someone does come in the room through the day & empty the bin, but that's all they do, no clean sheets or towels are made available, the heating is turned off at night even though it is -2 outside so you wake in the early hours freezing.||Do yourself a favour & spend a little extra & stay somewhere much better, in fact do yourself a favour & spend less & stay somewhere much better, this place is a hole, don't be fooled by the website pictures, I was.
