We recently had our wedding ceremony & reception at Alton House Hotel & couldn't recommend highly enough! From our very first enquiry, Issy has guided us through every step of the way, answering all my questions (and there were a lot), helping with recommendations & being there to support us on the day with any logistics & stresses that wedding planning throws at you. She's an absolute super star! So thank you.
She also introduced us to Lemon Stone Events, their event caterers, who put on a superb 3 course sit down meal, as well as an evening buffet. And introduced us to their events DJ, Ian, who had our guests dancing all night long.
The hotel is in a great location, near to the station for guests travelling, but also really peaceful in the gardens where the ceremony was held (you could hear the birds singing!). The gardens themselves are lovely & very well cared for too. We stayed a few nights at the hotel too - the beds we super comfy & breakfast was delicious.
Would 110% recommend for a wedding or any event. I couldn't be happier with how everything went & our guests are still raving about what a good time they had.

We stayed here on our way to Heathrow Airport which is only approx 1 hr away. Warm welcome. Lovely colourful reception and restaurant areas. Rooms were in the third floor attic and were all we needed. Nice bathrooms, comfy beds. Parking is free which was another great bonus! A word of warning we had a huge suitcase for air travel with no elevators / lifts in the hotel. Assistance was offered but after taking up to rooms a small suitcase and seeing the route thought corridors and stairs, twists and turns it's just not worth trying to get 23kg suitcases to rooms. Would certainly recommend and stay again should we need to. Thank you!

When we arrived at 11pm we couldn't get in - despite ringing the doorbell. We had to call the night porter on his mobile to let us in and check in.
I had booked a large (18m) double room with a seating area, spacious bathroom, blackout curtains, and paid extra for it. Instead, when we arrived, we were shown to a poky little room with a sliding bathroom door, no room for luggage and blinds instead of a curtain.
I don't normally like to complain but this time I feel really let down. I asked the night porter if he was sure we had the right room - he confirmed and said in any case, the hotel was fully booked and we couldn't change rooms.
I wouldn't stay here again
The breakfast was good

We broke down on our way to a three night stay at the hotel. The staff were super friendly and very helpful. Making phone calls for car hire and generally being kind. The hotel was clean with a homely feel and the restaurant staff and food were spot on. Breakfast was even better, anything you needed was there if not the bloke running the breakfast shift would get it for you.|Could ask for more!!

Didn’t stay over but I would recommend the Sunday lunch carvery. Three meats to choose from and a good selection of vegetables. Great price so good value too. Staff are helpful and friendly and the restaurant is nicely decorated with a good atmosphere.

Had to stay two nights for business and as the choice of hotels was somewhat limited, I had no choice but to book the Alton House Hotel. ||Although the staff I met with were charming, this hotel is seriously run down. ||Taps that either don't open or don't close, the shower fitting that is broken so sprays water on the floor and not in the shower, wallpaper peeling off the wall, mould in the bathroom and windows and even bits of the ceiling in the corridor outside my room fell down one evening! And when I removed the mattress topper, the cleanliness of the bed made me grateful that my tetanus shots are up to date so I can only assume that I'll be OK.||Oh and the Wifi was erratic which was a pain as I needed to work in the evenings.||(And being vegan, I had to self-cater as they don't appear to know what veganism is - maybe they think it's an eating disorder?!)

Second visit here and booked the luxurious room with balcony.
Received a tired looking room, that was given accidentally, but quickly resolved.
Chap at bar was like a 5* butler and was gonna eat elsewhere, but quickly persuaded by him and pleasantly pleased.
The room I got by accident, I would of been annoyed, but what I ordered was nice once resolved.
Will stay here again when in area.
Enjoyed my stay here, despite swerving it originally after reading just the neg reviews.
Comfy beds, excellent service from front of house staff and great location for what I needed.
Food was excellent, but limited choices on menu.
Barmaid to receptionist excellent.
Will stay again.

Having been impressed with Alton House when we stayed there in October 2024, we booked again for two nights when visiting the area for a relative's funeral. Our second visit was less impressive, due to the room that we were allocated.||Tucked away on the second floor and at the furthest point away from reception and the dining room, the room was small, with a low sloping ceiling, which had a Velux style rooflight that didn't close properly. The carpet beneath this rooflight, and on which one had to walk to access the side of the bed, was badly worn. |There was a plug in air freshener in the wall socket which gave off a heavy and overpowering scent . I removed it and placed it in the bathroom but the scent in the bedroom was still quite strong two days later.||The other bed mattress was very soft and gave so little support that I felt that I might roll off the bed every time I moved. The pillows however, were very firm.||On a positive note, the breakfasts were excellent value and the staff very pleasant. Of particular note was a male member of staff, who made us coffee when we came in one evening. Full marks to him.
