We’ve been eating at this pub for almost 10 years and have never been disappointed. |Everyone we’ve taken there has also enjoyed it. ||We went for a meal this evening having not been for a few months and it was as great as always ||It’s also really dog friendly. We used to eat here with our dog Monty before his passing. ||The resident dog Hetty is also very friendly and would have happily sat at the table with us if she’d not been taken for her tea.

This was our first visit and we thoroughly enjoyed it. There’s a free car park behind the inn and we put our car reg into the computer system at the bar to ensure we didn’t get charged. The pub was nicely decorated and has lovely views across the valley. We ate in the restaurant but would have happily sat in the bar. The menu is huge and the pie selection was amazing. My husband had chicken and carbonara sauce pie and I had roast belly pork with black pudding mash and a huge dish of freshly-steamed veg which was much appreciated. Both meals were hot, tasty and large portions so excellent value. The dessert menu looked great too but we honestly had no room left. The service was friendly and efficient and it was such a delight to have background music that was quietly playing in the background (and not too loud). We liked the look of the Christmas Fayre menu so would definitely come back.

Only had food here, never stayed in the rooms. But I think I would if I needed. The food is good quality, really nice. Staff good, nice clean place, a tad more pricey, but it's worth it, never had an issue here, and have eaten here a lot. Nice location as well.

Great country pub with amazingly extensive menu.

I had the best mushroom stroganoff I’ve had in years and Mr S thought his pheasant pie was delicious and different and wants to
come back every day to try another one. “After so many disappointments, finally I’ve found a place with great pies!”
Lovely countryside views and nice spacious feel.

Beautiful set in the middle of the countryside, food service and quality of the food poor. On arrival we were seated and offered drinks, once food was ordered there was a very long wait which was understandable as it was busy. 2 drinks later each the food arrived. My partner ordered surf and turf, the steak was poor for 28.50 no taste and small! the prawns for an additional 4.50 he got 3 in a small gravy pot. The chips were burnt which he couldn't eat!| I had the stroganoff and was edible but nothing special. No one came to ask if the food was ok. asked for the bill and no one came so went to the bar to pay, my partner said when asked if all was ok he said the chips were disintegrated to the reply “yes the chips here are amazing” ! They most definitely were not! our overall experience service and food needs improvement. Shame as such a beautiful place to visit nearly £70|For just a main course and couple of drinks definitely over priced for what we got

This is fantastic pub/restaurant. We were staying in the area looking for somewhere to eat and happened upon the Anchor. Such great choice and well priced, lovely welcome and of course - pies! If pies are your thing this is the place, ten to choose from and that happened on this occasion to be "limited" . Had the steak and ale, fantastic. Great beer and atmosphere as well.
