Stayed for three nights with my father during Feis Ile as part of a birthday present for his 80th. Hotel location is lovely, on golf course and near beach. Room was ideal with view over the course. The electric chargers at the hotel work very well and meant I could leave with 100% and didn't need to charge again before home. Can't fault the facilities. On the down side I had a rate which included a meal on the last night which was not provided. To be fair I chose not to challenge it with staff at the time, and put a negative on what had been a nice evening celebration, but there was nobody present at reception to raise it with the next day when leaving for the first ferry. Also as there was nobody on reception and you are not sent an e-mail invoice by the hotel on leaving there were charges put on my card that I was not given an explanation for. I sent a subsequent e-mail to customer service but his has been ignored. I wouldn't say avoid staying here, the facilities are great, but just be aware that issues clearly exist with the service provided. Personally I will be trying other locations on Islay in future.

Beautiful hotel with helpful staff, spacious common areas, and beautiful views. The hotel restaurant was a 7.5/10 - definitely good, but missing the refinement that would have made it excellent.

We were lucky with the weather and were able to walk along the beach in perfect sunshine and comfortable temperatures. I know it's not always like this, but if it is, take advantage and explore the beautiful surroundings.

Our stay at The Machrie Hotel during the whiskey festival on Islay was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in an atmosphere of warmth and genuine hospitality.

The service, in particular, stood out. Sarah, the receptionist, greeted us with a smile and provided invaluable assistance throughout our stay. Alex, one of the waiters, went above and beyond, offering fantastic suggestions and engaging in pleasant conversations that truly enhanced our experience on Islay. Their attentiveness and friendly demeanor made us feel welcome. All staff were incredibly kind to us during our stay.

Our room perfectly captured the cosy essence of a countryside retreat. The dining service was superb, with each meal being a culinary delight. And the lounge area, it felt just like home, inviting us to relax and unwind after a day of festival fun.

The Machrie Hotel is more than just a place to stay; it’s an experience that we will cherish and highly recommend to anyone visiting Islay. We can’t wait to return.

The golf course and hotel are first class. Great links golf course can be played every day, has multiple tees for every level and is not too tight on most holes; very playable. Rooms are good…clean and comfortable. The service is very good from the receptionist to the waiters and waitresses. All were very good at getting you what you need in a professional and friendly manner.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Machrie. The location is exceptional, with views on all sides of fields, dunes, and the sea as a backdrop. The restaurant is excellent, and we enjoyed every meal here. There is a comfortable library, well stocked with books and board games, and the bonus of a small snug, which happened to be close to our room - we used it a lot. Everyone is charming and friendly, from the moment we arrived. Highly recommended.

Stayed here as a family of 3 in Feb 2025 and cannot fault the service. From the minute we walked in, we all received a warm welcome and tour of the hotel. Our room was immaculate and extremely spacious for our two night stay and wow, what a view! Staff in the restaurant are great, breakfast was plentiful and special mention to Calum for keeping our wee girl entertained with the waffle machine each morning. Lots of recommendations available from staff on what to do and where to go. ||We stayed here a couple of years ago and noticed a huge difference in the level of service this time, they’ve really nailed it. Highly recommend a stay here if you are lucky enough to visit Islay

Best hotel stay in all of Scotland. The food was incredible. The beverage program was excellent. Rooms were comfortable and had great amenities. Views and grounds were beautiful. I wish all of the hotels we’d stayed in had been this luxurious. We loved it and it’s definitely now a plan to come back and stay here longer.

We stayed at The Machrie for a few nights around Easter. The hotel itself is lovely. The rooms/bathrooms are well-appointed and spotless. There is lots of interesting artwork around and nice areas to relax if the weather is not great.|The setting is just lovely, with a beautiful sandy beach just beside. |We ended up eating in the hotel restaurant all three nights (unusual for us), but we enjoyed the food very much (the local oysters and lobster were beyond delicious), and there was sufficient choice to keep us happy.|All the staff we interacted with were professional and friendly. A special mention for Will who manages the restaurant as well as Danny, Calum and Cameron in the bar. They were very knowledgeable about the whiskies of Islay and the island itself and were happy to give us suggestions re. places to go.|Finally, my husband loved the golf course- the staff there were also very helpful and the course was very well maintained.|We highly recommend.
