This is a traditional B&B with some great extra services; dinner and bar. For tired walkers, a pint and a meal on arrival is the greatest thing. The host obliged with smiles and a great positive attitude. Not a big selection of dishes but well made. The room was maybe not the most fancy but spacious and with everything needed. Same for the bath and all was clean. The WIFI was quite erratic but that is not unusual in the area. We left with a smile and recommendations.

Basic but brilliant- if it had been pouring down, windy and grim I cannot think of a better place to take shelter in. Tony is a wonderful host, even contributing to our charity effort. The bike storage is great, the shower water hot and the beer selection excellent.

I arrived here after a pretty punishing bike ride from Scarborough. Tony and Yvonne are great hosts. They locked my bike away, made me a special Sunday roast (I arrived late Sunday afternoon) which is one of the best - and largest - I ever ate. The room was comfortable, and the station was 150m of gentle downhill to one of the most scenic railway trips, the Esk Valley railway.

The window was broken so couldn’t be opened. The owner said there was a small fan in the room but that it would circulate hot air. Room was tiny and the cooked breakfast had clearly been sitting under a hot plate for a period of time. £100 for the night. Simply awful.

We had a cottage nearby for a long weekend and on the day of arrival we called in for an evening meal. The pub was really friendly and the food and portion size was great. We also ate there again on the Sat & had an amazing Sunday lunch the following day. Would highly recommend.

Tony the landlord was first class after an error with the booking , also very friendly and great Yorkshire banter.

Lucy was also very helpful and attentive.

Overall great location, real shame that the landlady lacked warmth and hospitality.

We absolutely loved our dinner and drinks, hosted by some lovely people. Thanks for looking after us after we rocked up without a booking (not recommended!)

Very good location for visiting North Yorks Moors Railway and near direct railway line to Whitby. Good base also for exploring North York Moors generally.|a nice local country pub. Room was very clean and comfortable with well stocked coffee and tea. Food was very good and if any problems these were quickly resolved. The hosts and other staff were very friendly and amenable. A lovely place to stay.
