We booked a spa break through a third party and I will review the spa separately. This is based purely on the experience in the hotel.|Initially we were booked into a premium twin room which was beautifully decorated and on the ground floor. The electric wasn't working so, despite the best efforts from the staff to rectify it, we had to move to a more basic room on the second floor. Had we not seen the first room we would've probably been quite satisfied with our room but it was definitely a downgrade.|However, the room was clean and the bed was comfy. It had trees situated outside the window to block some of the road noise. The room included complimentary tea/coffee making facilities and Elmis toiletries. |The WiFi is decent and there is ample parking, with access for disabled guests.|There is a lift for the upper floors and a lounge area in reception. All other facilities are situated at the spa and health club across the road. This is where we had to go for treatments, the cafe and breakfast.|Breakfast was included as part of our package and you have to order this from the menu. You pay extra for fruit juice but there was one hot drink included. |Overall, it was a good experience but could have been excellent had we had our initial room.

The room was a good size and the beds were comfy. Because we booked directly with the hotel we got complimentary use of the spa facilities which was nice. Its about a 10 minute drive from the centre of Durham, which cost about £12 in a taxi. I'd certainly stay there again if I'm ever back in Durham

Fantastic service from Jake, very patient and helpful especially after a long and difficult day. The hotel itself is clean and I have stayed here many times now, with further bookings scheduled. Would recommend for anyone looking to book in this area. It is affordable, quiet and with great service, especially Jake. Thank you again for your help 🙏

Good quality and service from check in to departure. Friendly service and good location. Easy access to A1 and to the centre of Durham city centre . Buses are available into the city nearby, but taxis are not too expensive. Overall, worth staying here for sightseeing in the area

Easy to find, just off the M1 and before the retail park. The road does get extremely busy at peak times but the windows block all sound when closed.
The room was huge and the bed was also spacious. Plenty pressure from the shower but there was a pretty strong smell from the drains that almost put us off staying.
I would definitely use them again as it was a clean place with nice staff and value for money. You had access to the pool and spa whilst staying too.

Initially, I was very excited to stay at this hotel chain given who the owner is, but I was overall disappointed in the stay.||||I was booked into an accessibility room for some reason, and the staff member who I asked to help seemed very reluctant to help and kept sighing all the time, but I did eventually get booked into a roon that better suited me. When I got here however, there were a few stains on the floor and the shower head wasn't quite attached properly.||||The bed is the comfiest thing I have ever slept in, seriously, it was incredible. I needed a nap for 45 mins before I needed to go and let me tell you, I have never fallen asleep faster in my life.||||The TV was a bit of an issue however. When I stay at hotels, having a decent TV is a priority for me, and this fell a little below my standards. The ariel cable was unplugged for some reason, so when I plugged it back in everything was hunky dory, but the issues continued with the Wi-Fi. The hotel DOES have Wi-Fi, but it requires you to sign in via a portal website, which is a big issue for a TV that doesn't have that capability. I don't like terrestrial TV that much, so I prefer to stream my phone onto the TV, but with no Wi-Fi on it, there was no possible way to do that. The staff member mentioned previously also just ignored me plea for help with this.||||So, to sum up, staff wasn't the best, bed was amazing, the TV could be better and the room could do with a bit more of a clean.

Booked the autumn spa package, wasn’t worth £120, room was nice but noisy through the night, the spa is actually just a leisure centre and to wait for treatments you have to sit in the cafe in your dressing gown. Not very relaxing.

I canceled a booking with the Bannatyne Durham hotel and was assured I would receive a full refund. However, instead of refunding me, the hotel incorrectly charged me an additional £125.

This billing mistake has caused me unnecessary stress and left me out of pocket. Despite trying to resolve the issue, I’ve had no resolution so far.

I find this level of carelessness and lack of professionalism unacceptable and would caution others against booking with this hotel.
