A post below suggests this might suit locals best. I would agree.There was a slightly veiled, patronising air when I ordered, especially when the counter assistant misunderstood what I requested, and argued. It is nice food, especially for enjoying by the sea, but I'm not up for being made to feel small. In addition, sitting near that poor old half-done building is grim.

We have visited this Cafe many times for many years when it was just a wooden hut. After such sadness with the plans for the new Cafe building delayed for many years this is still the best, most reasonable ,friendly place for excellent food & service. On a lovely bright sunny day yesterday ( 2nd Feb 2025) we & two dear friends had a good walk then sat outside at the Cafe for teas,coffee, bacon baps & chips. There was a constant queue of customers so good to see.Excellent value ,food & friendly service. Don't miss a visit here you will soon return . Thankyou to all staff .😊

Great little van to get a bacon roll. Public toilets just up the road. Tables and chairs with a nice view of the water, and friendly staff. Many thanks for our Pitstop snack. !
They take card payments as well.

My dog Nelly and I luuuurve Bateman’s. Very reasonable prices but the biggest and best thing is the people. The staff are all so welcoming and friendly.

Great little cafe, but a shame they charge extra 20p for decaff. No idea how they justify it, especially as the coffee is instant.

This is a great little cafe at one end of Brightlingsea promenade. We visited for ice creams after a day with our grandaughter.
There is seating to enjoy your purchases and the views.
We also thought the staff were very friendly and the prices reasonable, so are very happy to recommend this place 👍
