Review of Beaverbrook

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Beaverbrook, and what a truly wonderful experience it was. From the very first moment at the security checkpoint, the warm and polite welcome set the tone for what would be a memorable visit.

As you arrive at the house, itā€™s immediately clear that you are somewhere truly special. The setting exudes luxury, yet the atmosphere remains inviting, thanks to the exceptional staff who go out of their way to make your experience as enjoyable as possible. Their genuine hospitality and attention to detail make all the difference.

The grounds are stunning, complete with beautiful views from the terrace that add to the charm of the estate. Although I didnā€™t have the chance to try the spa this time, itā€™s certainly on my list for my next visit. While golf isnā€™t currently available for guests, driving past the immaculate course certainly makes it temptingā€”I hope one day that changes!

Overall, Beaverbrook is a place that leaves a lasting impression, and I canā€™t wait to return. Thank you to the entire team for making it such a fantastic experience!

We came here for a one night stay for our anniversary and had a lovely time. |The main building has been refurbished to retain its traditional charm and historical interest. |The pool and spa are spacious and relaxing. |The Japanese restaurant is the best in the UK weā€™ve had outside of London, albeit carries a similar price tag. |They also have excellent facilities such as tennis, padel and a well kitted out gym. |The staff are all very attentive and kind. |We would highly recommend this for a long weekend.

Hands down the best property in the region. Spacious rooms elegantly decorated, enormous grounds and service fit for a king. Spa is very nice too. Couldnā€™t fault anything. The breakfast however needs attention. Iā€™ve had better breakfast in B&Bs.

Iā€™ve attended business events here on two occasions in the past few months and the service is exemplary. Friendly and approachable, staff here canā€™t do enough for you and go out of their way to help.
The venue itself is stunning and rich in history. Highly recommended.

We returned after coming to stay in 2018, and having a great memory of the hotel.

Sadly, while on paper facilities have improved, the quality of the service and food has gone down tremendously, and it is not worth the price at all.

We dined at the Garden House Restaurant on Friday 14th. The food was underwhelming, featuring a sticky pasta dish and overcooked fish - my husband was sick throughout the entire night.

The Japanese restaurant the next day was even worse. I booked the table for a special occasion (my husband's birthday) over a month ago, and upon arrival we were told our table was not ready, and it was going to take "as long as people needed to finish their pudding". The alternative to such table was being squeezed behind a door, so I did decline the offer. 15 minutes later we were offered our table, I was asked whether I wanted to hang my jacket, which was then collected to be thrown on a chair nearby, and consequently fell on the floor.

The food is extremely overpriced and favour-less, and caused both myself and my husband stomach ache throughout the entire night.

Food aside, we were very excited to try the spa facilities, which turned out to be another disappointment. Rather than a relaxing space, they give the feeling of a busy airport lounge, with bright led lights, loud people everywhere, and little space to relax.

Finally, it was very clear that 99% of the staff employed looked extremely sad to be there, with long faces, looking absent, and barely acknowledging your presence. An example of this was our check-out, when the Front Desk agent barely looked me in the eye, reciting the different steps she had been taught to, and not picking up on 1) my request to be given the management's email address as I wanted to leave a review, and 2) the fact that we did not have such a wonderful stay after all.

Finally, we surely had a beautiful room, however the bed turned out to be quite uncomfortable, and we gave up on the golf cart service to go anywhere, as reception was quite difficult to reach in the first place to book one.

If you call yourself a 5 start hotel, you should act like one. You can then earn the prices you request people to pay.

My husband and I stayed at Beaverbrook for our anniversary (a return visit, we'd been 2 years prior and enjoyed it).Ā  ||Our room (Yeats) was very comfortable and well furnished, and we enjoyed the eccentric bathroom in the eaves.Ā  The lighting in the bathroom was faulty so the lights came on and went off at various intervals without our intervention; we never figured out how the dimmer switches/movement sensors actually worked.Ā  |The flooring of the bedroom was very strange though, really rough coir, more suited to a bootroom than a luxurious bedroom.||Our time in the spa was lovely as always; a very nice environment, quiet (in the adult area) and well maintained.Ā ||The highlight of our stay should have been the dinner of course, in the Japanese grill. Several of the staff (the younger ones) were extremely friendly and helpful; the older ones were surly and unapproachable.Ā  The food was quite ordinary, with no dishes that we would rush to have again and a very mediocre black cod (Ā£40).Ā  The pricing was outrageous considering how ordinary the cooking was: to charge Ā£19 for the lotus root side dish where the only flavour was the sauce, or Ā£16 on corn on the cob which every diner around us struggled to pick out of their teeth, was appalling.||Unfortunately the music was particularly awful: it sounded like a compilationĀ of bad eighties techo/synth music, utterly unsuitable for an upscale restaurant in a historic building, and very invasive.Ā Ā After dinner we were both cold, and still rather hungry, so retreated to our room where we were very grateful for the complimentary snacks.Ā  We both felt quite cheated spending Ā£250 (with no wine) on a very ordinary meal which left us hungry.|Breakfast by contrast was delicious and more filling, and the staff on duty were all friendly.||The hotel doesn't say whether they are doing anything positive for the environment. There was no mention of any policies around renewable energy, water saving, food grown using regenerative methods, reducing waste etc.Ā  We think our towels were changed while we were dining (totally unnecessaryĀ after at best a single use), and most good hotels (actually, most hotels of all standards) are now trying hard to be more sustainable. This is an enormous selling point to us when we are planning trips, and I believe is becoming the case for more people all the time.Ā  They have installed electric chargers but whether these are fed with renewable energy or not I couldn't tell.Ā  Ā  Ā ||The hotel didn't ask for any feedback, which is unusual (although perhaps they don't like what they hear). We're disappointed and won't be going back.

We have stayed several times and always enjoy our stay. The food is great, particularly at the Japanese. If you would like a relaxed stay where you dont do much but enjoy the spa, restaurants and surroundings, i would highly recommend. The service is faultless. Having stayed since a few times since opening, i would say the Ian Flemming room had a couple of decor issues (it appeared the radiator had leaked onto the textured wallpaper) and while i appreciate this cannot be fixed immediately, at these prices this should be rectified quickly. The view from this room is however, stunning!

Everything Amazing except The Deli!||||We came for a couple of nights "Detox" . Nice room, nice check in, and then a dinner to beat all dinners in the Japanese restaurant . The food was superb. Next morning we did a long work out in the very nice Gym - nice staff that although we hadn't booked, were happy to guide us on the odd machine we weren't familiar with - and then a nice swim - both indoors and outdoors. After that we were definitely ready for lunch - something healthy, but we were hungry. To begin with they serve a Broth - sounds healthy and nice , but turns out to be literally hot water with a strip of indigestible kale that has not been cooked, and almost as if in recognition that this is tasteless , a chilli. It was just unpleasant. I get it, health spa deli. Hot water .. so what next ? A salad of just one vegetable - tomatoes - thats it.Or, Pizza ! From one extreme to another. Desert - All sorts of chocolate brownies and cookies . No fresh fruit. A nice classic Tuna Nicoise with fresh tuna which they obviously have in the Japanese restaurant would have been great and worthy of the 5* the hotel commands. Or a Chicken or Prawn caesar? try swapping the hot water broth for Chicken broth with chicken ? Or Fresh strawberries or Melon ? All healthy , and nice . We had a great stay and hope to return but The Deli really lets the side down
