I recently stayed at the Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa for a birthday weekend and booked the Luxury Hot Tub Suite (Room 36), which was truly stunning. The room was huge and spacious, featuring a private outdoor hot tub, a freestanding bath, and a steam-room shower. It was beautifully designed, very comfortable, and offered plenty of privacy. The hotel itself was spotless, quiet, and relaxing, with a peaceful atmosphere that made for a pleasant stay.

The Bar, Restaurant, and Spa staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which I really appreciated. However, the overall experience was underwhelming, especially considering it was a special occasion. Despite notifying the hotel about my birthday, apart from a brief mention by check-in staff, there were no thoughtful touches or gestures to make the weekend feel special; something I’ve experienced at other 4-star hotels, such as complimentary drinks, small surprises like chocolates in the room, or even a dessert at dinner.

The dinner was okay, but it didn’t quite reflect the quality or value expected for the £138 bill for two people. Breakfast, however, was even more disappointing. I ordered the buttermilk pancakes with bacon, expecting a generous, well-balanced dish. Instead, I received three pancakes with just one small rasher of bacon - which felt more like a “ration” of bacon than a proper portion. It left my morning meal feeling incomplete and underwhelming. For a hotel of this standard, I would have expected more thoughtful portioning and attention to detail.

Overall, while the hotel is clean and relaxing with friendly staff, it lacked the attention to detail or guest experience that would make it feel like a memorable birthday weekend. I’m not sure I’d choose this venue for another special occasion.

Just returned home from an overnight stay at the Bishopstrow Hotel & Spa. |We were at the hotel to attend a celebration yesterday of a friends birthday which was expertly managed by the hotel in the Library Room with a lovely Afternoon Tea and impeccable light touch service by the staff. |As the venue is some way from home, we had decided to book an overnight stay to relax after the event. So glad that we did.|The hotel and staff are absolutely excellent. The Hotel itself is in beautiful grounds, & the house is fantastic. |Our room , in the courtyard annex, was lovely. A large room, with a kingsize bed, TV, fridge etc and plenty of storage for clothes. An equally big bathroom, with walk-in shower and a bath and great toiletries.|Having had Afternoon Tea yesterday we didn't book for dinner, but could have had something lighter if we had chosen to. Breakfast this morning was first class and plentiful.|The staff at the hotel were lovely. Every single staff member was friendly, welcoming and helpful and a great advertisement for the hotel .|We will definitely be coming back for a longer stay !!!

What a great spot - such a scenic location to unwind. We went for a walk around the grounds and then had a light lunch by the fire to warm up. Super friendly and attentive staff and great menu options. Look forward to coming back in summer to experience the outdoor grill and patio!

I visited Bishopstrow House back in summer after doing a visit to Longleat Safari as it was not too far away. Whilst there, we had afternoon tea, a massage and use of the spa facilities.

The afternoon tea was amazing, where the balance of sweat & savoury was perfect and the service was impeccable. There was a manager at the bar who took great care of us and went over & beyond with the service.

The spa facilities were very clean and nice, and the Sauna & Steam room were the best.

The outdoor pool was open but I didn’t use that as it was a typical British summers day.

Overall, it was a great venue and great service. I would definitely go back if I was over that way again.

When we phoned on the morning of our annual visit to Bishops trow Hotel and Spa we were told that we had actually booked for the following month. Thankfully we spoke to Kerry on reception who confirmed rooms were available on that day and we transferred the booking, upgrading at the time to a roomy room. Upon arrival we found we had been further upgraded to a 2 bed loft room, No 17.|We have not been back since the new owners took over the hotel and were delighted with the upgrades to the rooms and general facilities, including the soa and gym.|Room 17 was spacious and beautifully laid out with an amazing bathroom. Dyson hairdryers and Dualit kettles add to the luxury |Breakfast is still great and the hotel staff very welcoming and friendly. |It is in a great location for exploring the War monster areas with some great walks from the hotel.|The hotel is very dog friendly with new dog washing facilities to clean your dogs post walkies.|We love it, as always. Thanks for the upgrade and we'll see you again next year ( though we still have 2 nights left on this visit)|

Had my mother's 80th birthday celebrations here. The staff couldn't do enough for us. Wonderful. Bring your dog, it will be thoroughly looked after. We were in room 21, if I have a complaint, the room was very warm; no heating on, which made it difficult to sleep, even the dog was panting most of the night. Would truly recommend this place for your special occasion or just a get away.
